How to turn off USB power after shutdown (ASRock Motherboard)
If you need USB power to charge your devices when your pc is switched off, or on the other side of the fence, you need to have you RGB lights on USB devices switch OFF when the PC is shut down then this is how you enable or disable the "feature" to suit.

Did find Deep Sleep. but under Advanced/Chipset configuration.
Mike without you. i would never find it. so Thank you very much.
WHO DAR🗡ES WINS 😎
Great to hear!
Aye thanks so was mine
Same with mine, chipset config and had to scroll down a bit
Mine too thank you!!!
Same with me thanks both of u
I‘m too embarrassed to tell you how long I‘ve been having this problem for. It was only my Razer mouse which kept blinking, so I didn‘t care too much but after buying a new audio interface with a pretty bright power LED, it became very annoying, so I started switching off the mains power after shutdown. This is a godsend and as it‘s NOT in the USB settings, NOR in the ACPI settings in my old BIOS version, and „Deep Sleep“ doesn‘t read like „POWER OFF“, I never would have found that in a million years. This video is a godsend!
glad it helped
I love that you have an ASRock lol. I couldn't figure this out 😂😂😂. Thank you
glad it helped
You’re a very useful human Mike
Thanks Mr A
Thanks for this - been wanting to turn off my peripherals on shutdown for a couple of years now. Why that's not the default setting I have no clue...?
It's presumably because of the fact that USB BIOS flashback won't work if this deep sleep setting is enabled. But it would be great if Asrock said that in the BIOS help text.
Worked great! Thank you! My deep sleep option was inside a different place to yours. So instead of ACPI configuration mine was in chipset configuration. But thank you for the explanation ❕
glad i sort of helped
This is one of these great Videos. You have a Problem you wanna fix it asap and then some guy like you comes and makes the perfekt video about it. Man you are great thx!
I appreciate that!
Thank you mate!! Exactly what I was looking for
Glad I could help!
Thank you for this fantastic video. Stops my keyboard from lighting up the room, and probably saves a wee bit of power too!
Glad it helped!
Thank you! My 8-bay HDD enclosure sync was set to power down on Windows shutdown, but it wasn't working. Although I knew the USB port wasn't switching off completely, I didn't know where to set this option. This worked perfectly.
Glad I could help!
Thanks a lot! Straight to the point!
Thanks you so much your a life saver. I would have never found of it without the video.
I subscribed and liked, been looking for a straight hour for an answer for this. You solved my issue thank you. One dude said flip the switch on the power supply...

This problem was bothering me for quite some time now 😂 thanks
No problem 👍
Thank you so muchhhhh. I keep coming back to this video when I reset my motherboard😂
nice to see you again, see you soon.
Finally thank you Mike!
Helped a ton, thanks for the video.
Thank you. I found a clear option on one other Asrock MB - but my "Asrock X570 Phantom Gaming ITX/TB3" was driving me crazy.
Brilliant!! Thanks for the tutorial. My ASROCK Fatal1ty board had the option under ADVANCED->SOUTH BRIDGE CONFIGURATION. There was only Enabled or Disabled and not the option for S4 or S5 (whatever that is).
Great video! I have worn out my front panel usb port by unplugging the mouse every night lol
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for the information and tutorial! My last mb was not like this and i've been wondering why my external usb hub and my motherboard led still turns on even though i turned off the pc, now i know.
Thanks again for the useful video!
You are welcome!
Thanks for sharing Mike and Kath👍
Our pleasure!
thank you, thanks to you my computer becomes more pleasant to watch when it is off
Thanks so much!... I've been looking for this solution for days for my Asrock MB... 👍

Thanks, exactly what I needed!
Glad it helped!
@@mikesunboxing it's as you said - a weird menu to find this in (and imo, even weirder that it's on by default!). It's silly, but my cats kept turning on the lights of my keyboard on after shutdown, and that's rather bright 😅

I think ERP ready option in bios does the trick (in Ryzen motherboards)
Appreciated this vid man, been trying to do this for awhile. Thank you
Thanks for this, after Arctis nova pro base station firmware update it wouldn't go to sleep after computer shutdown. This fixed it, thanks.
Thanks for sharing
Appreciate the vid! Was certainly counter intuitive!

Thank you very much. Been smashing my head on this for quite some time now. It really isn't very intuitive. For my Fatal1ty X99M it was under Advanced > Chipset Configuration.

Thank you so much! Now I can go back to sleep in deep darkness 😴

Very Helpful information sir. Thanks
So nice of you
Thank you! This worked :)

Worked perfectly! Thank you! :)
Glad it helped!
how are you doing sir? hope you have a fantastic day. I have Asrock H81M-HDS. Have the same issue and try the same thing as shown in your video. But after I set it to S4-S5 then I shutdown my computer, it refuse to turn back on. The only way I can turn it back on is by reset the bios settings :(
that is pretty strange? is your power supply an older unit that maybe doesn't support the lower power states?
@mikesunboxing umm idk, my PSU is Deepcool DE-530
Hi Mike. Thanks for this one and the one you did for another motherboard. But I have a question, wouldn't be easier if this feature seems to be set to enabled as "default" to just switch of your power supply. And if you wanted the USB Ports to be "live" again to leave your PSU on?
This would save having to constantly go into your BIOS everytime..... Yes?
you don't need to go in every time once it is set as you like it you can leave it. I guess if you change the setting daily or often, then maybe the PSU switch might be more convenient
not everyone has access to their power supply button. Mine is on the inside of my case.
@@MikeVideos327 What about the switch at the outlet...?
@@makiwa what you are describing does not exist in USA. Our outlets do not have switches or circuits on them.
Using an ASROCK X670E Taichi.
I disabled every setting except PCIe (for WoL), but still my keyboard and mouse are powered (LEDs on) and they wakeup the computer from standby.
If I shutdown the computer the LEDs of my mouse and keybard activating on a click on their buttons but of course don't wakeup the PC.
It's weird.
pc power management is a real mess right now
@@mikesunboxing I think it is a mes since 2012 or 2014. (My AM3 MSI mainboard had the same problem, the AM3 ASRock mainboard before was fine but got damaged.)
If I disconnect my mouse and keyboard and reconnect it back, the LED's will stay deactivated.
It is also funny that I can't deactivate the USB Power in S4 (only S5 is possible) without the deep sleep.
The only thing I want powered is my integrated LAN, which only works if I enable the PCIe setting and deactivate the deep sleep feature....
Спасибо, добрый человек!
Great video thanks Mike. PS what is S4 & S5?
sleep states the higher the number the deeper the sleep i think
whenever i enable s4 and s5, theres like a 4-5 second delay from when i push my power button to when my pc actually turns on. is there another bios setting that addresses that?
i have that with some motherboards, my msi one that i stream from does that
I have a question
When I enable s4 & s5 everything turns off as it should but when I turn the computer on XMP is disabled.
could it be for the motherboard? (asrock a520m-hvs) I know is a basic board but I think it should not be a problem.
that shouldn't turn off XMP
Awesome mate! Cheers.
I’m wondering why it says they recommend it to be disabled, it’s making me hesitant to disable it
Does this also work for when putting the pc in to sleep mode?
Yes it is all related

Omg! thanks so much!
No problem!!
I have a weird situation: deep sleep is disabled but all my peripherals are off. I want them to get power even if the PC is off. Do you know any solutions?
you probably need to enable deep sleep to keep the PSU alive to power the devices, you can't have it fully off and expect the peripherals to stay on
Is that method works with wake on Lan/Wan ?
to some extent, depending on the sleep level that is required for WOL to work
I have a Z790 Lightning WiFi. I have activated what you have activated in the BIOS and in Device Manager and Power options in the Control Panel, BUT it does not work. Idk what else to do :(.
Also, Idk how to turn off the RGB lights off of the PCB.

Asrock z68 extreme3 gen3, I dotn have the deep sleep option, did find though setting for S4 and S5, but it does nothing. Usb charges my phone when the pc shuts down. Anything else to suggest? Thanks.
do you not want it to charge?
Nope i want the pc to complete shut down, or at least to have the option to choose. I managed on another system with x570 chipset, but with the Asrock i have not figured it out yet.@@mikesunboxing
@@tubegfg i am sure the answer is in there somewhere, for a full shutdown you want all power saving and sleep options disabled
Yah i give it another try,thanks.@@mikesunboxing
This was lovely, Mike! But I have a more serious problem. Can you fix it from randomly throwing "USB Device not recognized" on both keyboard and mouse at the same time ? It drives me nuts and I have to shut it down every time it happens. This BT60M-ITX/D4 Wifi is driving me nuts.
try it with another mouse or keyboard, and make sure you have the new motherboard chipset and USB drivers installed
@@mikesunboxing It's a brand new system, installed all drivers. Mouse is an ASDA cheap one and keyboard is an MSI Gaming. Interesting thing, when they do fall, they fall at the same time. I've only seen it a couple of times but it's absolutely annoying, as I have manually shut down.
I HAVE A QUESTION! The default config is "disabled", and the description says that it is recommended to keep it that way for "better system compatibility and stability". It has to mean something, right? If I enable it, will it be harmful to my PC/Motherboard?
it shouldn't cause any problems, but if you are unsure leave it alone
@@mikesunboxingAppreciate your reply. I just have one more question. You said it was "counterintuitive", that it says "disabled", but it is actually enabled. So, does that mean that Deep Sleep is actually enabled by default, the button shows "disabled" means that if you click it, it becomes disabled. Am I understanding it correctly?
hello, what is the difference between the option of "enabled on s5" and "enabled on s4 and s5". i hope you can reply me. thanks.
it is the same thing just combining the two formats
S4 is a sleeping state. S5 is a shutdown state.
interestingly, this method is exactly the same in Nearly all of AsRock Motherboards from 2012 - 2022 and still do
I simply don't have the Deep Sleep option and i have Windows 11 Pro. I've looked everywhere and can't figure out why i don't but everyone else does. I have the ASROCK Z690 Pro RS
i'll see what i can find
have the same board...Advanced/Chipset configuration almost at the bottom.... hate asrock, always the same problem. its 2022 and they seem to think nobodys wants to save energy. and they change the specific setting position every time...or in some bios versions they "forgot" to implent it... just take a look into their support forum for a laugh...
Hi Mike. I have the B450 Steel Legend. When I have a power outage, after the power returns the motherboards RGB lights will turn on. The PC itself will be off, just the boards lights will turn on in the usual rainbow mode. After I power on the PC to windows and shut down, everything will turn off as per usual. Any idea why it does this?
probably a low power mode after an outage, most PSUs have standby 5v active power, a full shutdown stops this
Ah, I see. Thank you 👍
hey i got the same issues as you, can you tell me is that alright or not cause i've been damaged my keyboard since use that option
thanks alot

For some reason when i do that it wont work on mine,it keeps the mouse and keyboard on ,what else i can do ? Asrock b550am gaming sox 😓
look for energy saving sections and turn them on but disable sleep states
I don't have that option, there isn't any deep sleep option
I have a Z270 pro and I hate having to turn off all rgb stuff when I shutdown the pc.
Can I do it without that option, maybe in a more complicated way?
you could get a USB powered hub with a switch and turn the switches off to kill the power
@@mikesunboxing if I don't find any software solutions I think I'll do that
Hey, I did this some time ago and it worked until someday, that even having S4 and S5 states, the ports are still toggled. Any idea?
