This song hits home for me... my ex never thought I would run and it is the best thing I ever did.
The line “I see the permanent damage you did to me” punches me in the gut every time. This song hits home way too deeply.
Karen is the one singing lead. You have to hear Kimberly sing! She sings solo on the song sober, which is I think my favorite song of theirs. Also some of their older stuff is great and some are so funny, like little white church.
I always had zero interest in Taylor Swift, I was a country fan so just thought no I don't want to listen to her pop crap. Then several years ago I came across her "Red" CD at a garage sale and bought it. Never listened to it until my wife and I took a road trip to southern Utah (from MN) and put the CD in while driving around Moab and into Arches National Park. Not only was I wrong about her music but that experience was emotional and forever burned into my brain. Ever since then I try not to judge artists without listening to their album, not just the song they made for the radio.
You should definitely listen to Taylor Swift's recording of this song (she wrote it about 10 years ago for her Red album) & recorded her version of it this year. It's fantastic!

Same here. I was too young but he could have been a better man. It does take two though, so I must share responsibility. Our kids 2, 3 and 6 when we split, could have used a better man. It did make the kids and I very tight though. Best thing in my world those 3 adults now.
I apologise if I'm intruding but in my own life there have been times when I took the blame or was blamed for the wrong doings within the relationship. I just realized the chronological order of this song. I could never figure out where Karen's 'character' fit in in the sequence.. Til I noticed all 3 of the other band mates whispering in her ear at the end. So Kimberley plays Jim's Mom, Jimi plays Phillips Dad and Karen must play Phillips Daughter so all the voices of the past are whispering in her ear. Because when Kimberley is 1st in the kitchen the old man playing Jimi"s Dad & Phillips Grandad his watch is on the kitchen counter. Did I get it right?

This perfectly describes my ex fiancé. I had to leave due to his addiction I didn’t even know about until 6 years in. It lasted 7.5 years because I tried so hard to fix it and help him. I know too well that you can’t help anyone who doesn’t want to help themselves, but I still tried.
He worked away for @ half the year (nuclear) and I had never been around anyone doing hard drugs if you’re wondering why it took me so long to figure it out. 🥺Also, he never did it at home or around me.
