      Not sure if you live by a gas supply shop, but if you ever run into not having gas on the weekend try some Homebrew Shop.

    This video is awesome. Your voice is like a professional voiceover. That magnesium media is called dolomite, it is a good idea to run in your reactor but you may find that it needs a lower reactor pH to dissolve (in comparison to the aragonite). I hope you have been loving the reactor for the last 6 years now!

    One item for folks watching, there is one drawback to running a CARX off of a manifold. You precisely meter your output to handle your tank's need, but with a manifold, if you open up another valve on the manifold, you lower manifold pressure and therefore lower water flow to your CARX as well, so it means it all needs to be balanced as a system. If you feed it with a kamoer stepper motor pump or masterflex, you can control the output much more reliably/precisely.

    Great video!! That GSP is going to thrive with that calcium reactor!!

    Great Update CJ, You will love it once your tank is full of coral. Once dialed in to your coral load it will be very low maintenance.

  • @googIereallysucks

    Just a heads up a calcium reactor doesn't replenish any trace elements that are stored in the tissue of the coral. Small water changes here and there will help bring those in.

    • @darthweezy
      @darthweezy 7 років тому

      googIereallysucks Not correct. If you're using RO and a commercial salt mix, you're likely not adding any detectable trace elements. Even if you are using a mix that cites increased amounts of Mb and Mn, there is no conclusive, reputable research showing how essential any elements, (other than the big ones CJ noted)are to a reef tank. I think CJ will get what he needs from his ARM (even though I advocate water changes to reduce nutrients).

    • @CJSAQUARIUMS
      @CJSAQUARIUMS  7 років тому +1

      googIereallysucks I'll still be doing water changes on this tank... they are too important in my mind for multiple reasons ... thanks for watching 👍🏾

    bring on the golden age of the CaRx lol ... How did know Cj to include 1cup of Mg chips and place them at the top vs thru-out the media or on the bottom? IMO they can be one intimidating piece of equipment but your multi-part video series helps!

    Hey CJ, I'm really interested in having my own reef tank. It looks like you have to put in a lot of money/time if you really want to see results. If I start should I go with a nano tank or straight to a big one?.

    • @CJSAQUARIUMS
      @CJSAQUARIUMS  7 років тому

      Delps medium size 50-75 gallon would be my suggestion but end of the day it is a large investment so get the size tank u can afford

    • @luizmakesvideos
      @luizmakesvideos 7 років тому

      I'm in the process of setting up a 25g reef, and i'm pushing $1000 very soon with good equipment from "reputable" brands. Could be a bit cheaper if i wanted to, but it could also be much more expensive too.

    • @reydelps4782
      @reydelps4782 7 років тому

      Damn, that's seems like a bit to much. I have that kind of money but not really to begin a hobby like reefing. I thought with such a small tank you wouldn't even be pushing $500. I guess I have to gather more knowledge on in it as well then. Because the cost in my head wasn't that much.

    • @luizmakesvideos
      @luizmakesvideos 7 років тому

      In my experience, double your initial cost and that will give you a more accurate estimate on initial start up. The thing with bigger tanks, although more stable in water quality, is that the equipment used to run them are often more expensive. You'll need a stronger heater, stronger/multiple pumps, larger/multiple lights; you most likely need an ro/di water system - imagine having to make multiple trips to the grocery store for freshwater or to the fish store for saltwater. Took me 3 years to pull the trigger on this thing.

    • @reydelps4782
      @reydelps4782 7 років тому

      Can't you buy an RODI system that changes tap water into the water you need for the fish. Those a very valid points, never thought of it that way. Maybe I should wait until I'm able to afford a bigger tank and the required equipment needed. I rather stable water quality in a bigger tank than having to be worried all the time of something going wrong in a smaller tank.

    Very Cool. I am battling keeping alk, and Calcium . Looking for Alk 9.0 Calcium 450 and Mag at 1350 to 1400. Is that what you would go for? I have really slow growth right now. Calcium was 400 and alk around 8.0 Mag 1350. Just working with the dosing to keep it steady. Happy to hear you added an outside line. Once I added a line to bring outside air to my skimmer my PH moved up to an average of 8.25. Its working great. 8.18 is my low and that was with 15 people in the house for a family get together. I have a 3/4" inside diameter line running 36'. Before adding the line I was averaging 7.95. Big difference.

    • @CJSAQUARIUMS
      @CJSAQUARIUMS  7 років тому

      John sounds close to what I would like my parameters to be... I just want stability ... if it ends up being alittle lower or higher then so be it... my ph never hits 8 even with air from outside. Just a normal thing in my house...

    Awesome set up!!! Looking to get on CalRx too. Just one question... I notice that most people have theirs with their output dropping a small drops back into their sump. Does it need to be a correlation between the amount of water going in the Rx vs going out?
