  • I keep getting asked what settings I use for my macro photography and although they always change I do have some "go-to" settings, in the video, I'll show you how I set up my OM Systems camera for macro photography.

    Just got a EM1 Mark 2, had a Mark 3 and OM1 but sold them. Just getting back into macro so thought the Mark 2 was all I needed. Love the outtakes.

    For those who use a slightly older gen Olympus like myself, the Olympus EM1i, even though there isn't a custom 1 custom 2, you can go to settings, under the Icon Camera 1, go to Reset/Myset with your desired settings and custom assign them to the buttons that you wish to. Personally, I set the single shot settings of 1/100 and f4 to the top button beside the lens mount, and the bracketing settings of 1/13 and f4 to the lower button. I also custom-assigned focus peaking to fn 1 just to make it easier to access. For other uses, Back button focusing can also be custom assigned to the AEL AFL button just beside the viewfinder. Cheers

    Hello Is it possible to use the electronic shutter for focus stacking? Thanks

  • @usernamemykel

    Stewart, using in-camera focus bracketing/focus stacking, with flash, should my shutter selection be electronic or mechanical?
    How does the flash keep up with the incremental bracketing shots?
    Many thanks in advance for your valued response!

    • @StewartWoodArt
      @StewartWoodArt  Місяць тому

      The camera will use an electronic shutter when bracketing and the flash just keeps up because it uses a good battery (not AA).

    Hi Stuart, do you use back button autofocus or half press front button when using autofocus

    Is 1/50 sync speed enough when shooting handheld? When I shoot with my Canon at a speed lower than 1/200s, I cannot avoid motion blur. Is the Olympus stabilization the reason 1/50 is enough? On the mark3, the electronic shutter sync speed is 1/200, right? I plan to replace my Canon with an Olympus em1 mark3.

    Hi Stewart, I posted this same question in another of your vids. Should have posted to this one. I just purchased a used OM-D-EM1 mark ii also with Godox TT350O. When I set up in manual at 1/250 and f8, as soon as I change to Focus Bracketing the shutter speed changes to 1/50 and won't adjust to any faster. Any suggestion as to how to bypass this? Do I have something set incorrectly somewhere in the extensive menus? I appreciate your help. Oops...I just re-watched your video and you state that the shutter reduces to 1/50. thanks 😀

      1/50 is the max shutter speed when doing in camera focus bracketing, it’s just a limitation you have to get over.

    I have now managed to set up the OM - D E mk11 in manual and all three Custom settings but the flash doesn't fire in any of the C1,C2 or C3 and the electronic view finder is blank so I cannot see what I am photographing during a focus bracketing. Please tell me what I am doing wrong.

    Sorry. I know this was a while ago. I was hoping you would also discuss the flash settings. Do you maybe have a video on that yet?

    • @StewartWoodArt

      I have quite a few, but simply put or a single shot I use TTL and for stacking it's 1/32 or 1/16 power.

    Is it possible to set my OM-D EM1 Markiii in Focus bracketing mode and execute it by handheld and not on o tripod as you show on this video tutorial? Thank you

    • @StewartWoodArt
      @StewartWoodArt  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes, I do most of my stacks handheld. The only reason its on a tripod in the video is becvause it was at night and you have time to go slow.

      @@StewartWoodArt Thank you Stewart. Also I would like to add, that focus bracketing handheld it is possible because this camera has an incredible image stabilization system!

    Hi Stewart - I have a small problem with doing focus stacking with my flashgun. occasionally the flash gun will not fire on a frame or two - I suspect due to flash recharge time. I try to use new batteries but suspect that I need to lower the flash strength. What is the optimal flash strength you use for gteed flashgun funtion?

    • @StewartWoodArt
      @StewartWoodArt  11 місяців тому

      I use 1/32 power most of the time, you will need to use what ever flash us needed do you don’t have black shots.

    • @mezzawopp
      @mezzawopp 6 місяців тому +1

      In the bracket settings you can put a delay after each shot to allow flash to catch up. Even 0.1 seconds helps. I don’t use a delay for 1/32 but need it for 1/16

    Hi Stewart, I'm a non native speaker (italian), are you setting the charge time or are you ignoring this setting (set to 0 ad default) ? My understanding is that will impact the shooting speed ? Can you clarify for a newbie as I'm ?

    • @StewartWoodArt
      @StewartWoodArt  8 місяців тому +1

      I dont mess with the charge time as the flash is quick enough to keep up with my camera.

    Hi Stewart can I just ask about your flash settings?

    • @StewartWoodArt
      @StewartWoodArt  23 дні тому

      I use TTL for single shots and 1/16 power for focus stacks.

    Thanks body about your understanding language of shoot. Very understandable shoot. I have a friend and every time he goes out to shoot , comes back with bad quality shoots. He can not understand the value F /Stop he have problems with the memory card lock, so I need to repeat him how bad he is at shooting, so he get good in his head that he doesn´t have the level of an professionist. Is it so hard to understand a shoot, you keep doing it..... man what a stupid mess.
