  • Hello and thank you for 12:12 of your time. Today, I kind of give an "update" video to our Toshiba RAC-PT1412HVWRU portable air conditioner. I say kind of, because I didn't create an original review of this item, or at least, I can't find the footage! If you all want a full review of this unit, don't hesitate to let me know in the comments and we'll set that up for you! The Midea group acquired Toshiba's home appliance sector in 2016, so more and more Toshiba branded units may start to vanish and you will most likely start seeing it branded as Midea. (links below)
    I've noticed that more people, in the colder climates, are trying to run this while the temps are under 40 degrees (F). See below for the unit's operating temp ranges. Temps outside of these ranges may prevent the unit from operating properly.
    Cool Mode: 60°F ~ 95°F (16°C ~ 35°C)
    Dry Mode: 55°F ~ 95°F (13°C ~ 35°C)
    Heat Pump Mode: 41°F ~ 86°F (5°C ~ 30°C)
    The Toshiba Smart Wi-Fi Inverter Ultra Quiet 4-in-1 portable air conditioner has way more cooling power than a traditional unit, with over 20% higher cooling capacity while also adding up more than 40% in energy savings the unique Hose-in-Hose system for fresh air exchange. Cooling power you can use the highly efficient heat pump mode for year-round comfort, use the unit for dehumidification or to circulate the air when cooling is not needed in spaces up to 550 sq. ft. It can remove up to 5 pints of moisture from the air each hour. The ultra-quiet inverter system allows the unit to run at only 44 dB(A) which is less than your standard refrigerator. Smart functionalities include a smartphone app to control your AC through Wi-Fi from anywhere, at home or through the cloud. It has voice control options with Alexa or Google Assistant devices. You can use the LCD remote control or the integrated electronic control panel and display. It has a sleek and modern design and is light and compact. Easily move this portable air conditioner from room to room with the 4-wheel design. It comes with an installation kit for quick and easy installation and it fits in most vertical or horizontal windows. Intelligent features such as the 24-hour timer, sleep mode and the automatic vent angle for better air distribution help you to personalize your comfort. With this unit, you can cool, dehumidify, circulate, or heat the air in the space you need and get peace of mind. 1-year warranty by Toshiba.

    Just bought this from Home Depot yesterday. Glad to see yours is holding up almost 2 years later. That looks like a pretty big room. I’m cooling a 12x28 barn with a 12ft ceiling and was surprised by how well it worked even though the barn isn’t insulated yet.

      I totally forgot to put that info in the video lol. This room is around 14'x36'... a little over 500 sq. ft. and the A/C does an awesome job at keeping it very cool. I may very well invest in a second one, to keep the downstairs garage shop comfortable to work in. The downstairs garage shop isn't insulated either, like your barn, so if yours is doing a good job, I would hope it can keep a 20'x40' garage shop relatively cool as well. Anything to keep me from splurging on a minisplit because I want a dual zone, so bad!!! lol

    Hello from the Dominican republic... I purchased one and I'm a bit stuck about the drain hose... I'm only going to use it to cool, do I need to put the drain hose with a bucket??

    • @EverythingInBetween22
      @EverythingInBetween22  7 місяців тому +1

      If only using to cool, most of the time you should 'not' need a drain hose and bucket. If you close all the plugs and it drains a little water, there is a reservoir inside and when it fills up, it will turn off and give a code on the screen, to drain before turning back on. The manual shows you how to do this if it happens.

    Hopefully getting this one tomorrow if it's in stock. My 10000 btu stopped blowing cold air today when it hit 112 after a yr of having it. Was an off vrand name. Fingers crossed they have it. Does the hose need to be high up like that? My window is rather low

    • @EverythingInBetween22
      @EverythingInBetween22  18 днів тому

      No, it doesn't need to be that high. The hose is an "accordion style" hose and can stretch to fit higher windows like ours. So it should definitely fit your lower window. View the "Full User Manual" link in the description, so you can get a better idea of how it works and what you might need to get it set up. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

    I got a question if I only use the AC mode do I still have to drain the Toshiba?

    • @EverythingInBetween22
      @EverythingInBetween22  Рік тому +2

      Technically, no, you don't need to use the drain(s) on AC mode, BUT depending on your area. There are 3 drains to this unit. There's a top drain for the Dry Mode and there's a middle drain for the Heating Mode. There's also a 3rd drain at the very bottom for 'excess condensate'. Even when using the AC, depending on how much condensate is being created, it may fill the internal bottom tray. If it does, the unit will turn off and the screen will beep and give a P1 code. You'll then take it to a location to drain it, remove the bottom drain plug to let it drain. Close drain and put the unit back to its location.
      I'm in Texas and it's humid as heck here and I have yet to use ANY of the drains. This thing runs daily on AC Mode, getting close to 2 years now without needing to drain it.
      View the 2nd link in the description. Once you're on the product page, view the "Product Details", find the Manual and download it. You'll find everything you need to know about the unit and the drain usage. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

    • @EverythingInBetween22
      @EverythingInBetween22  Місяць тому +1

      I believe there would be a noticeable difference. For a room the size of mine, i believe an 8,000 BTU would struggle and work overtime to try and keep the room cool, especially if y'all have crazy hot summers.
      At our old house, we had an 18,000 BTU Window Unit. When it went kapoot, the 18k BTUs were so expensive we decided to try a 12,000 BTU unit and when summer came around, we immediately regretted it.

      @@robluxuryvegas Correction: my window unit was a 12k BTU and we replaced it with an 8k BTU...
      the 18k BTU, in the previous house, was a 110/120v and kept our 14x38 (~530 sqft) room, ice cold... and didn't have to be running all the time. That's the great thing about the higher BTU units.
      Window units may be a little louder than portable units but they push air a lot better, in my experience.
      Window units drain water, and well, my portable Toshiba inverter hasn't had to drain water, yet. Pros and Cons to everything.. unfortunately.

    Not to happy with the heat function. We purchased 1, used it during the summer and thought it was great. We tried it in the winter but chose not to ues it bc of the drainage issue. So, we purchased a second one trying to use the heat, it keeps turning off. The room is not reaching the temp. I called the manufacturer they were no help. We ran the hoses outside. This is our first go around with portables so I dont know what to do. They perform great as long as the temp outside is above 40. Below that they cut off, come back on for a minute, blow warm for a sec then cold and shutdown. Would not recommend for heat unless someone might can tell me if we are doing something wrong.

      @EverythingInBetween22  8 місяців тому +2

      I have yet to use the heat function since our winters are very short in Texas. Plus, I'm the only one that works up there and I LOVE the cold weather.
      To your issue, using the heat function may cause the unit to overheat, triggering a safety feature that automatically shuts off the appliance to prevent damage. Check if the unit is placed in an area with sufficient ventilation to dissipate heat. Also, make sure your dual hose exhaust is not blocked by a window screen. Window screens do not allow enough air to pass through the small holes and will overheat the unit. Other than that, I'm not sure. I did contact the MFG early on, and they were knowledgeable about my unit. Maybe you talked to a bad apple. :(

      Even during Cool Mode, like traditional air conditioners, they use a refrigeration cycle to cool the air, which inherently involves removing moisture from the air as it passes over the evaporator coils. This process helps to dehumidify the air in addition to cooling it. However, the effectiveness of dehumidification can vary depending on factors such as the size of the unit, the ambient humidity level, and the specific design of the air conditioner.

      I have been running one of these for my ground floor Living/Dining/Kitchen area (500sqft) for 6 months in western WA. It's been great.
      Heat functions well so far; We've only gotten down into freezing temps a few times but so far the system has been able to keep up.
      I've got mine draining into a condensate pump, so I hear the water draining when it goes into defrost (you can hear the reversing valve too if you've got good ears).
      The defrost function is what sold me on this unit, because that should allow it to run even in very cold ambient temps.
      It also functions well in cooling mode (>90F ambient temps), and "dry" mode for moisture removal.
      As for efficiency, I have not done any calculations but my power bill was definitely lower this summer than last summer when I was using a window unit, and it HAS to be cheaper to run than my Cadet electric wall heaters.
      And, just speaking generally, as far as portable units go, this one being a two-hose unit is inherently more efficient than any single-hose unit.
      FWIW: the label plate lists CEER at 12.3 and Amps at 11.9 (115VAC).
      If you need a portable unit I think you'd struggle to find one better.
