It's wild to see how much she's grown since 'The Listening'. Still one of the most creative and beautiful artists I've ever come across.
My friend and I went to a show of hers in San Francisco back in The Listening days and my friend made us late and we only got to see two songs, but I was mesmerized and it felt longer in a good way. Wish I could experience that all over again.
Was rewatching one of the old Video blogs the other day and realized it was 10 YEARS OLD! Honestly, I'm so proud of LIGHTS. She's such a good role model for young woman and young people in general. Not putting her on a pedestal or anything, but she's always been a good example, to me, of a person growing who they were without forgetting all the awesome things that made them unique.
I hope she's happy and continues to be so.

I was just musing on this on facebook. I discovered her thanks to Adam Young and his remix of Saviour, and she's been a top 5 favorite for me ever since, and it's been a wild journey. It almost feels like her music grew up with me in a way? It's crazy. I am not a huge fan of cussing and edgier themes in music (which is what her music has been evolving to), but I will always have a spot in my heart for Lights and will always continue to listen to her. It kinda feels like when you have a best friend in high school who's similar to you in most ways, and as you grow up you develop different styles, aesthetics, lifestyles, hobbies, and beliefs but you love and appreciate each other for who you are and will always find a happy place in each other. Same feeling, except it's me and her music lol

Quality over quantity. Better music is found by less people because these artists do not conform to a sexist mainstream industry.. Look at Grimes.. Look at Twiztid.. Look at Tech N9ne.. They're all underground. They did it on their own, creating their own line of success. Its beautiful, really..

She used to be phenomenal... Now that she's becoming more famous her songs get increasingly worse, just some forgettable/generic stuff that sell more due to the bad taste of the majority, without the real feelings many/most of the old songs had. I know we can't compare different kinds of songs, but just listen to her more personal stuff and come back to this... Well, yeah.
That said, I have mixed feelings about the love she gets lately. I wanted her to be truly appreciated, but not for these songs... Hopefully ppl listen to everything, tho.
Anyhow, I guess the true _fanatics_ will hate me, but I feel like someone had to say these, somewhere. Apparently, I'm still a fan too (just more objective), and I'll be waiting to hear something truly good from her again... But seeing how most ppl praise this direction, it seems futile. At least she still does acoustic versions, kinda.
p.s. like I basically already said, she *is* getting more attention (or that's what some of you guys lead me to think the last 5 years), so you may be filled with joy now😋

I know you weren't replying to me but: I recently introduced her to some (few and select) ppl and one of them will probably do a cover soon, but strangely enough she was slightly/kinda famous here (Greece) back in the day... dunno about the rest of the world though.
Personally, I found out about her through WoW (and that phoenix sword tattoo) a year late or so, in 2010. I count knowing her before that as a feat. And discovering her now, through her newer stuff... It just seems so wrong to me, and sad. But, whatever floats her boat, if she wants ppl to know her through Drake covers and I don't know what else, so be it. She even used to cover real songs, the difference is strikingly severe and it shocks me every time I think about it...

@@hawkstrike18 used to be phenomenal?? Did you even hear her last album Skin And Earth?! It was incredible! Yeah she doesn't make her personal old songs anymore but she's so much more than her "listening" phase and the fact that she can perform with different artists of multiple genres is phenomenal in itself. It's sad when an artist branches away from their original source but the growth outweighs it in her case.
@@Mhistler man, first of all thanks for the sensible, not negative at all, response 😋 I expected worse, even though it's probably kinda silly to expect hate/fanaticism from lights fans. But fanaticism is everywhere these days/years. Oh well, that's for another thread/comment section.
Now, I know I might be a bit wrong, no one can be 100% right anyway, but, while I appreciate collaborations with a variety of artists and such things (I can like very different music genres although I normally listen to very certain things, mostly indie/alternative rock and WoW music, lol), and admittedly I haven't been consistently following her latest releases, the route I've been seeing her take is towards music that "sells", which is, more often than not, detrimental to the quality(?) and especially lyrics. Or should I say message... Yeah. Because I'm fine with simpler lyrics, it's the non-existent or stupid messages that make me hate a song. Thankfully, hopefully, lights will never be an artist talking about money, the big life, or shallow stuff like that, but I had high expectations because I could&can relate 100% to parts of her old lyrical content, although most songs were too "girly". Not saying she should only write songs about depression tho, I did enjoy many of the more pop stuff, obviously, up to Little Machines. Truth is I haven't paid absolute attention to Skin & Earth (enjoyed Savage for a bit but that was it), but I didn't seem to find any song comparable to the older ones. Well, S&E was more of a concept album anyway, and it was kinda cool even though I have no connection to it personally (listened to Thrice instead during that period, truly great band btw). But I do see she's enjoying making songs that stray from what I had "signed for". I miss the cuteness and innocence so much. In fact, this world misses it. Lol😅
p.s. promise I'll look up everything she's done the last ~5 years and give them a more serious listen, sooner or later. Should've done that before judging/forming an opinion, but I definitely got a general idea when I listened to the majority of her latest releases/music videos.

Emily Kamikaze dude I saw her in concert for the tour, it was the first time ever seeing her in person, I literally felt like I was dreaming, so cool and so much energy in her performances! I loved when she opened up the pizza box and played her synthesizer...Mario dungeon scene music!🤣🔥🚀🕺🏻🤩

The thing that hooked me on this song was in that first chorus, at 2:18 where the background instruments drop/pause for a moment at the word "keep" in the lyrics "but you just *keep* me running", that is such a cool sound.

Being a 50 year old hard rock musician (still doing it), I still have an appreciation for all styles of music and art. I find it criminal that Lights doesn't have 3+ Million subscribers. So SO good! I've been with her music since her MySpace days, like legit first ep out, its been pretty cool to watch her music style evolve with her over the years. Overall I do love the fact that she has stayed true to herself vs changing to what is trendy and popular.
