    Awesome video/vlog Daniel. I love hearing old Nirvana stories and recording stories from Butch Vig and Jack Endino. I remember when Bleach came out and even then I thought Nirvana was this unique band and man what a band they were. Awesome stuff Daniel and thank you for sharing these amazing stories.

    What about "Downer"? that was a Dale drum, too, right?

  • @sword-and-shield

    Chads drumming and Jacks mix of Bleach pushing the drums to the front influenced me some what on the kit at the time, but based around the "way" Chad created the drum groves for certain tunes on Bleach.

    I woold like to get a really good explanation as to why Chad was not included in the Hall Of Fame induction. Jack confirmed that Chad wrote those drum parts for Nevermind which, honestly, is probably 90% of why the Hall even recognized Nirvana for induction in the first place.

      That’s a stretch dude that’s might’ve been PART of it but that wasn’t the reason entirely

    But Dave’s talked about coming up with the Smells like… drums? Says he was ripping off the Gap band? Was smells one song that Dave did compose himself?

      No, and Kurt had a big influence on what Chad did on the kit when the tune was coming up as well. All Dave did with everything pre In Utero, is just embellish groves that were created already. Myself, I always gave a F about players, regardless of skill. Its all about the artist's, the ones who creating the grooves, or riffs or lyrics...at least for me.

    Chad was a way better drummer. He drummed for the song arrangements in a much better way.

      I liked his style and feel, and subtle approach to his arrangements way more than Dave's bulldozer approach to every song. But Chad's style would have been hopelessly out of place if Kurt had tried to write In Utero with Chad. When Nirvana was more of an arty, underground punk band Chad was perfect for what they were doing. I'm not much of an In Utero fan- I rarely, if ever listen to that album. The stuff I find myself still listening to the most is the music that was mostly recorded with Chad.

      @@dathorndike4908In Utero is my favourite of their albums. Turns out it was Kurt’s favourite too. different strokes for different folks. In Utero was the sound Kurt always had in his head that he wanted to get out. He wanted that surfer Rosa sound and got it with Steve Albini.

      I agree Chad's drumming was more dynamic, allowing entire compositions to breath more.

    • @sword-and-shield
      @sword-and-shield 5 місяців тому +1

      I agree, very little from Dave's drum groove creation I liked in Nirvana, his embellishments on the already created grooves were decent, but players rate less with me than the artist creating the actual grooves. The first Foo, where Dave soloed it all, had some bangers tho, probably his best. Many don't realize Kurt had a big impact sometimes on what he wanted Chad to do, and where, when those tune were coming up. A guitarist hip to a strong drum vibe, every drummers dream huh.

    • @Napalm6b
      @Napalm6b 5 місяців тому

      @@sword-and-shield I play bass so I listen carefully to what drummers have going on. Dave Grohl is an absolute power house which has it's place. I've played with drummers like that and it gets to be exhausting. My guys are Cody Willis from Big Business and Dale Cover of the Melvins. I think these guys and Channing to a degree subdivide a measure in ways I find more interesting.

    Kurt would still be alive if they kept Chad
