I’m going through a breakup right now.. and it hurts so much but he was not good to me. He would think communication is stupid and just said “you see you always want to start arguing” but all I was doing was trying to tell him something that was bothering me that maybe we can fix but he would just blame it on me. He would compare me to other girls and after being with him for 2 years, at one point I started to compare myself too and it’s so unhealthy for me. For some reason I still miss him and love him but I know I shouldn’t because of how horrible of a person he is. I hate him but love him. And I just want to stop hurting. Me, a boy, watching this to test how well girls think they know boys. So far I can say most of this is true but just know that, yes, we do appreciate girls making the first move, we aren't these super incredibly confident gods on a pedestal, we are human like you and feel very anxious talking to a girl who is attractive or has a great personality as we often feel that we are out of your league. Typically we become softer around girls we like and from personal experience, when first talking to a girl (falling in love) our testosterone levels drop and we become more like the girl, more tender and emotional but after we feel secure in that love with them, our testosterone tends to come back up as we manage being soft around you but also having our guard up for protecting you. So yeah but other than that, if you wanna know why boys are like "gross" or whatever, it's honestly just something you'd understand as a boy, can't really explain to you if you have no foundation to go off of, we just tend to find slightly less kempt things to be funny or natural and it also sorta ties in with our manly instincts and behaviour. Just having high testosterone alone makes you feel more buff, down in the dirt and ruthless ngl 😂

If I can add something from my point of view, I would say three key things: positive reinforcement, being open about what you'd like, and complimenting him.
Positive reinforcement is awesome, works on my fiancé, my dogs and my dad; it's basically like being kind and focus on the positive things they do rather than the negative ones. Say he surprises you with a facetime call, or something else that makes you happy--tell him girl! Thank him for having done that, he'll do it more often. Kid you not.
And yeah, sometimes my fiancé completely lacks of initiative and ideas, so I gotta tell him what I'd like, but that's okay! Communication is a great tool.
Also, show men some love. Compliment his outifit, his haircut, stuff like that--they might not show it, but they love it too :)

The question about boys "lying" about staying with you forever: girls do this too. It is not that it is a lie, its the fact that people change, and while you're in a relationship you're not only finding things out about your partner, but about yourself! Some things just aren't meant to be and all we can do is go with the flow and wait for the person that has themselves figured out enough to truly live up to those words we love to hear.

i go to a very small school and also live in a small town. so when it comes to dating a friends ex it’s kind of inevitable because of the small selection of boys and friends. the “girl code” at my school is more of making sure your friend is okay with it BEFORE you even start to talk. if you think it’s getting like that or you have feelings for someone tell your friend and be honest. most times they understand and are happy that you talked to them.
