Great overview David , still so many releases to get , Elvis was great in the 50's ,young and wild , and you can really hear him evolving into the greatest entertainer the world has ever seen . Thank's very much 👍
WAIT ! Are you saying I don’t have to be buying all these records and CDs I’ve been buying 😂! But seriously, this is a great guide for a “minimal completist”. I often question my collecting compulsions, I can offer no reasonable explanation beyond saying “I enjoy it”. Wonderful video, as always.
Fun's definitely part of it 😂 I think there are other things involved, such as "the thrill of the hunt", as they say, and ordering one's universe., among other things.
Loved what you showed and great idea for a video. I’ve always thought The King of Rock 'n' Roll: The Complete 50's Masters on a 5 cd boxset would cover the majority of his studio albums during that time in one release.
Yes, great box set. It mainly has the masters, though. Not many outtakes, no sessions, not much live material and no home recordings. Got to have it all 😄
Some wonderful releases highlighted there David. I do have the FTS Christmas Album and the Off Duty album and they are both superb!! Isn’t collecting Elvis so much fun!! Hope you get that 56 set soon. You are going to love it!! Thanks.
Hi David, like always a great informative video. I think the 60’s will be fun! Hope you and the family are keeping safe and well. Regards Ellie 🎼🎵🎶🕺🏻❤️😃👍⚡️
Wow,that was so informative and i really enjoyed that ,but i don't know if I'll be buying all that. I've just started collecting the sun singles and my first purchase is sun 209 which has cost me a small fortune but i ain't stop smiling since, plus picked up carl perkins ( dixie fried ) on sun label. Im actually quite scared for what I've let myself in for, because once you get one it becomes very addictive. Luv the show.
Very interesting and informative video, the MRS releases are so vibrant. Their restoration of 'I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone' live, (with the studio inserts) is so well done too.. You'll really enjoy the '56 sessions CD when it arrives David, (there's a fantastic undubbed master of 'Shake, Rattle and Roll included) with the only sound quality to come close being on the 'As He Was Meant To Be Heard' CD releases from a few years back. The 'essential' 1957 and 1958 (MRS) masters can be found on the 'Made In Germany' set, although the new Complete 50's masters, MRS Camden release might represent better value now.
Yes, good point about the '57 and '58 masters. I've heard Made in Germany, and some of the tracks with Elvis at the piano are so badly distorted it makes me wish they hadn't bothered releasing them. I might grab the "Camden" version when it comes out, though. Thanks for watching.
Hi Dave ,on catch up been away for a few days ,great video ,it’s great to known what to look out for, collecting EL music is an expensive business,a try n go for the essential releases now ,FTD is really good but as you pointed out not everything from a soundtrack or studio album is on these ,there’s some great bootlegs out there that have cuts on that even FTD didn’t have ,a still think there a great go to ,and still affordable, they seem out of vogue these days but av always loved them ,take care Dave ,tony
Hi Tony. I'm in the middle of compiling a list of what's out there officially and on bootleg for each session and, as you say, there are several bootlegs that are still worth hanging on to, if you have them, and seeking out if you don't. Cheers, Tony.
Loved all the info!⚡ It is really fun collecting but at the same time you could loose track of what you already have or don't concerning 50's Elvis...wait, just concerning Elvis, period! Therefore finding the video very helpful 😊 I'll tell you, as soon as I finished it I had to check on the LP bootlegs (I'll confess I love them) because I wasn't quite sure of some material on them as I do more on the CD compilations. There's the Loving you track complete sessions and King Creoles paired with some live stuff and quite more live appearances on those nicely designed unofficials. I kind of remember some contents but forgot some others...so this excercise prooved I've Lost track indeed 🙈 There's an official 2005 compilation of Sun masters and discarded takes in a two LP set (King of western boop) that I'm happy with but yes A boy from Tupelo will cover that and more and is a fantastic set. So I do agree with the point being CD oriented and trying to have all in less space! Happy to have those golden records 2 and Christmas ftds but now wanting the first golden records...sigh! And I'm with you on the recent Toledo one from mrs, you can travel back in time and feel the atmosphere of those concerts! Such fun ❤ Thank you for the video and take care!
I have quite a few old bootleg LPs, but I think all the material on them has been issued on official releases, except for some poor-quality audience recordings of live shows. As you say, some of them have great covers, though. I now have most of the LPs I want, so I'm focussing on getting CDs that contain music I don't have, such as the Sessions CD sets. Thanks for watching!
@ElvisPresleyInJapan that's great having almost all the LPs you want 👏🏻 The CD sessions are very desirable indeed, precious content, quality sound and easier to store? Gems. I hope you'll find everything in your list! I don't know if showing bootlegs would cause a problem with yt, if not maybe someday you could review or show some of your favourites, would love that. Thank you and have a nice week!
Nice comprehensive overview David. All of the MRS 'Camden' releases you showed were, indeed, originally released in the more deluxe hard cover book format. The complete Million Dollar Quartet CD released by Sony in 2006 can be picked up really cheaply. I remember getting the original vinyl release on Sun in '81, but must admit it was never something I listened to much. Historically important but not a great listen to my ears. Be nice to see you cover the '60s 😊
The $1M Quartet has grown on me over the years and I enjoy it on the rare occasion that I listen to it. I think the '60s will be straightforward for most years - "Just get the Sessions box or wait for the Sessions box".
Thanks David, enjoyed your video (Again!) 😉 MRS offers great value for money but I personally never bother for those releases. With The Boy From Tupelo (FTD) and all the FTD Classic Album and Complete Sessions releases on the shelf I do not feel the urge to buy yet again another repacking of Elvis music.
This video was inspired by my plugging the gaps in my collection. That's when I realised that by getting the MRS sets and a few FTDs, you can get all the '50s music quickly and for not too much money. If you've already got the FTDs, you're in a good place and don't really need the MRS releases, unless you have to have every release. Like you, I'm not like that.
Hi David, could I have your email address please , I have a question,I've had a look in the book and believe it's a first press but it's way to clean both record and cover for a 1960 issue or even a 63 issue so I need your eyes Cheers Paul Grayson
Great overview David , still so many releases to get , Elvis was great in the 50's ,young and wild , and you can really hear him evolving into the greatest entertainer the world has ever seen .
Thank's very much 👍
I've been enjoying the live '50s performances recently. He seems to have had a lot of fun on stage. Thanks, David

Great video David nicely covering all the 50’s gems 👍
Cheers, Adam.
Very informative, David. You have to love the MRS releases. In my opinion, they’re on par and in some instances, surpass FTD.⚡️
MRS releases are great value too. Thanks for watching.
The complete 50’s masters set?
Greetings J-P
Great set. I have that one too.
Very good video, I haven’t bought any MRS sets before but will seek one or two out now, they look good.
Yes, they're very good value sets.
Loved what you showed and great idea for a video. I’ve always thought The King of Rock 'n' Roll: The Complete 50's Masters on a 5 cd boxset would cover the majority of his studio albums during that time in one release.

Always a pleasure watching your videos- very informative!
Cheers, Mark. Talk to you soon.

A lot of fun indeed, Grant. Can't wait to get the '56 set. Cheers.

Hi David, like always a great informative video. I think the 60’s will be fun! Hope you and the family are keeping safe and well. Regards Ellie 🎼🎵🎶🕺🏻❤️😃👍⚡️
Thanks, Ellie. Yes, all good, thanks. Hope all's okay with you too.

Ah, the Sun singles. Haven't got any yet. Maybe I'll get lucky one day.

@ElvisPresleyInJapan good point, apart from the movies where they've lost some of the tapes
Thanks David, enjoyed your video (Again!) 😉 MRS offers great value for money but I personally never bother for those releases. You will know EP went into MRS,, not Sun. Sun was merely a label name on the Sam's record company discs.
