Had to have been there! Comical. I loved it there in Japan! (and I have been all over Asia, including riding the Mag Lev in Shanghai, have also ridden in European bullet trains. Too bad these do not exist in So. California, where we sit in traffic.
These shinkansen introduced in 1964, coinciding with Tokyo Olympics. In the last 60 years not even a small accident has occurred. If at all happened, it would have been during earth quake or natural reasons. Timing of arrival & departure in each station, so perfect.

I suddenly hear a whistle blow off in the darkness first at one end of the platform, then off in the darkness at the other end. Suddenly off in the distance a headlight appeared. Seconds later a passenger train ( Diesel driven ) hit that platform like a tornado - so fast it kind of sucked me toward the tracks. After it passed. I heard the two distant whistles blowing at either end of the platform. They were announcing that an express train was coming thru. I'll never forget that...

Travelling on a Shinkansen is a must do in Japan. Watching one go past at full speed is just jaw dropping awesome. Got to watch a Nozumi (?) fly through Hijemi station whilst waiting for our train back to Tokyo.

It's even more insane in person. One second there's nothing, then out of nowhere there is a train ripping past, it's really loud, you can feel it, the doors behind you might start swinging. Then the next second it's gone and all is quiet again, so cool. The station I was at had a slight curve to it so the interior rails were noticeably banked

It's even more insane in person. One second there's nothing, then out of nowhere there is a train ripping past, it's really loud, you can feel it, the doors behind you might start swinging. Then the next second it's gone and all is quiet again, so cool.
The station I was at had a slight curve to it so the interior rails were noticeably banked

are you serious? this thing is nowhere close to the planes. this thing can be operate maximum at 320 km/h. while commercial airplane lets say like boeing 747-8 can operate up to 1000+ km/h. joke is invalid
