Keyboardist: what time signature would you like this in?
Matt: yes
Seriously - most impressive
He finesses the drums so well....it’s damn near superhuman the way he makes the drums come alive to speak like that!
The way he drags a songs to his pleasure is damn amazing 🔥🔥😂😂😂😂
Wow he's a different type of beast all together
At 806mins in the video and you said, “What is that!” I died!!😂😂
Drummer plays track for the first time perfectly
Lol he makes me wanna practice and light my stuff on fire .. at the same time .. special talent here!! 🤘
His drums sounds so much brighter! Effortless playing
Matt is the best drummer in the last 10 years
@Marcelo Serra There is no such thing and there are better players.
I agree.
yeah Matt Halpern is pretty goddamn good too lol
Totally agree.
id say hes the best of all time
The one person that disliked this video couldn't count
I think they heard that one beat Matt missed
This seems like a metrically perfect performance and I’m sitting here wondering how on earth is that even possible to anticipate all of those changes perfectly... I just
Some say he's a robot, a human metronome
Josh, your face says it all on the thumbnail for Matt's playing 😄True Monster Drummer there!!
The devil sold his soul to Matt
Been wanting you to react to this since i saw it a few months ago! Amazing!
Man ! Those drums sound amazing ! But, Matt's mastery and a great mix really help. Matt is almost mechanical, with staggering timing and transitions. Nice.
Awesome drumming and it was 🔥👏👏👏
Love to see Matt & Thomas Lang
Mad clean yo🔥🔥💯💯💯🎶🥶
Relaxation is key
Immaculate.
Matt is on the same level of Mastery with drumming as Tony Royster Jr.!
Woooow!!.
Danny Carey drum cam the song is pneuma by a band called tool the drums are incredible
Yeaaahhh keep on counting folks
OS MELHORES MÚSICOS DO MUNDO
You need to react to the video “Berkelee Chops-Shed Session 1” with Matt Gartska it’s absolutely ridiculous.
Heeeeell yea!!!!!
Ayyye, good ol Matt.
Mad pocket.... but with groove, and expression....
Master class drumming. Ive never heard of him...till now.
What a machine!
Bro!! You need to react Angelical trombeta - Alexandre aposan!! He is one of top Brazilian drummers
He's yet to be surpassed imo.
Should definitley check out his work in the band Animals as Leaders. This kind of groove laced into a more metal vibe.
6 peeps didn’t understand.
495 peeps didn’t understand but still liked it.
No comparing but Matt always reminds me the dextirity on drums of Dave Weckl both are masters incredible drummers
I love Matt’s work in Animals As Leaders but I’ve never heard him jam with a track like this before sounding like Virgil Donati
I needed paracetamol after trying to keep up with the guy's timing
Stunning drums but the synth on the backing track sounded at one point like it had been dropped in a pool of water.
thats probably what they were going for lol. seemed like a pretty psychedelic track
its like he is talking about string theory and quantum physics and we over here like eeerrr you what mate?
Oh my God
THREE "BIRDLAND" BY WEATHER REPORT quote at the end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this dude is just scary with dem sticks
Those drums are talking 🤯
7:50 Birdland?
Matt Garstka: The Original Ghost Buster
This guy's got pretty decent rhythm.
That Tama is the truth
*throws drums into the sea*
We want to see you react ... keep your screen big
Check out my new drum cover!!🤪
Yo! I had the same reaction at 3:17 loool, I don't think I've heard anything so rhythmically impossible to perform, and my fav drummers are Donati and Garstka, so that's saying something. If you take the time to analyse what's going on, your mind will be blown my friend. I made a comment in the original video trying to explain what's going on, so ill post it here in case you're interested.
Holy mother of God.... is he really doing at 3:03 what I really think he's doing??? That's some fucking insane Tigran Hamassian shit right there. From what I can gather, he's playing in 4/4 with a bassline that goes over the bar and is seventeen 16th notes long. That bassline was being played before the change and continues when Garstka modulates (with a slight variation). If you count the bass line in the 4/4 framework, it's subdivided into (7 + 5 + 5) 16th notes. Before the modulation, Garstka is simply subdividing the 4/4 bar into 16th notes while the 17/16 bassline goes over the bar. What Garstka then proceeds to do is modulate those groups of 7 + 5 + 5 into groups of 4 + 3 + 3..... somehow.... So he's keeping the 4/4 on the hihat every four 16ths while simultaneously subdividing the first seven 16ths into 4 notes (4:7 tuplet), and the next two groups of five 16ths into groups of 3 notes (3:5 tuplet) on the ride and snare. And I say somehow because obviouly the maths doesn't add up, meaning theat when he modulates it sounds like he's playing notes of equal length throughout the bar, but this can't be the case because the ratio of 7 to 5 is not the same as the ratio of 4 to 3. If it were played perfectly, the first 4 notes of the 4 + 3 + 3 would have to have a larger value than the succeeding two gropus of 3 (that is, they would be slower) for it to be in perfect sync with the bass line. By a very small margin, granted. In fact, this very small margin is preciesly why the illusion that they're the same length arises. What truly bewilders me is how in the name of God he can manage to pull this off, because that very small margin is precisely the one he's "counting" (or I should say feeling) to be able to execute the modulation. To perform a 4:7 16th note tuplet (that is, 4 notes in the space of 7 16ths), you have to be able to subdivide every 16th into 4 notes in your head. That means, in this case, "counting" 64th notes at about 125 BPM. Yes, I said 64th notes. That's like counting 16ths at .... wait for it..... 500 motherfucking BPM!!!!!! . So, I guess my only question, Matt, you motherfucking beast, is just..... how?
Damn! If this is what people are laying down now in the Year 2022, can you imagine the crazy shit people are going to be playing 10…..20…. 30…..40 years from now???!!! I mean really

This is King Crimson type drumming, tight as all heck but playing to a different rhythm. Weird wavy track going everywhere but that second part around 6:50 is brilliant.
Cool track. It's got a bit of a 90's King Crimson feel.
Adeavery feat ray prasetya
I dont now why he jumps to DW . Compare the sound of all his vídeos with Tama and now the recents with DW. Don't understand bro...
Mathematician on Drums
Its a simple 4 count but he switches between the off beats right when you least expect it, giving it an unique sound but just count 4 bro you will stay on track with him.
It's definitely not just 4
IQ: 99999
uhhhhhhhh... brain is numb.
check out his animals as leaders work as well yall
Ridiculous
