Just bought a '21 Custom Trail Boss yesterday. Love the wheels and tires on it and also love the fact that it has a key to start it. OMG it's big. Doesn't look that big on the dealer's lot but once I got it home it barely fits in the garage. It won't fit in there if my wife has already parked her car in there. I didn't realize it was that much bigger than my Colorado.
I just bought a 2020 custom yesterday! Got a screaming deal. BARELY fits in garage. I think I am in love though. For ~10k more Im not sure the LT TB is worth it?
I have 6.2 custom.... Im a classic man and don’t need that many options. I love the grill on the Custom it looks more aggressive in my opinion. I have a family and a Rottweiler so I needed the 6 seater and not leather seats my rott would damage the leather with his nails as he did to my wifes audi suv. If you like the look of custom and like the simplicity get it. If you like all the options and luxury go with the Lt.
Landed a custom trail boss about a month ago a love the shit out of it! Was lucky enough that it had just been leveled, lifted another 2 inches with 35s, black and red diamond stitched leather and the paint and logos black on black. In fuckin love with this truck
Figures that Chevrolet would only offer TWO choices on trim level. Bet there are numerous customers who would appreciate and purchase one or two trim levels between custom and LT. Hey Chevrolet..........the trim level choices should be Custom, LS, and LT...or Custom, LS, LT and LTZ (or maybe LTX for the Trail Boss).
I think personally I’d go with an LT. I think the custom looks cool, but it’s way to basic in my opinion. The only reason I would buy it would be the price. Great review!
Thanks :) I'm with ya, there is a big difference in price, but the LT just offers so much more and looks better. Got one about 6 feet away from me in our showroom...tempting, but $55k sticker doesn't fit in the budget right now lol
Had my 19 custom for 1.5 yrs now. Love it. You don’t need the bells and whistles. How many times to you move your seat? Once! Why do I need electric? Rear window? Not needed. Heated seats? If you need heated seats by a Prius! It’s a truck. I live in WI works great in winter as well.
Figures that Chevrolet would only offer TWO choices on trim level. Bet there are numerous customers who would appreciate different price points and purchase one or two trim levels between Custom and LT. Hey Chevrolet..........the trim level choices should be Custom, LS, and LT...OR Custom, LS, LT and LTZ.....OR maybe make LS the base trim followed by LC, LCX (C - Custom and X = Xtreme) and LT and or LTZ. The point being...Chevrolet should offer more than two trim level choices on the Trail Boss because not everyone wants "plain jane" or the most expensive trim with undesirable options. Ford has the opposite philosophy by offering multiple trim levels in their trucks -----> XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum...and Limited. The great thing about the Lariat trim is it can be loaded up with the Ultimate Package and then add individual options tailored to each individual customer's needs or desires.....and a fully loaded Lariat is not much different than a King Ranch or Platinum each with Ultimate Packages...but saves about $3500+. In short, the Lariat trim is a great value and offers the customer the ability to "custom build" a truck to individual preference. On the other hand, Chevrolet (and GMC) offer very limited choice......"here you go, and if you don't like it tuff" attitude.
Super helpful video. I just bought an LT Trailboss in July and LOVE IT! I live in So Cal where people are used to nice cars and trucks and people still give me compliments.
This is an excellent review. The LT is a nicer package but I really like my Custom Trail Boss and I found one with the remote start package and the bed liner. I prefer the 3.42 rear end over the 3:23 as it gives the truck a real launch. I had a 16 High Country Dually because I hauled a slide in camper. Got rid of the camper so I just needed a light daily driver and the Trail Boss feels like a sports car after a Crew Cab Dually. . I am real happy how quick the 5.3 is I had the 6.0 workhorse in my 3500 , great for hauling a camper but a bit of a slug around town in a 7800 pound truck and what really blows me away is the incredible fuel mileage on my new 5.3. City driving , without even trying to save gas, it is twice as good on fuel as my 6.0 was but hey, my Double Cab Custom is only 5200 pounds compared to 7800 pounds and the 5.3 has more ponies and torque than the 6.0 in my 2016. My 2016 was an amazing truck and flawless in 4 years, hopefully my 2020 Custom Trail Boss will be as good. After one month, I just love the thing and was able to find two after market products that addressed a couple of things I did not like. I like to sit high in a truck and the cheap Custom seats have no height adjustment. I found a high quality truck cushion that matches my black cloth and is super comfortable. I also missed a leather wrapped steering wheel and found a nice leather cover , both products on Amazon. Chevy really should have included the storage bins on the centre console , but I am going to look into an after market solution for that. In Canada I saved 15K by going with the Custom and I prefer the Custom Grill over all the higher Trims and for 120.00 in after market accessories, the only thing I am missing is the console storage.
Thank you healthballnut! The center console storage and an adjustable driver seat are the two biggest complaints I get against the custom, but still a great truck!
KB Cars , yes before you ever lose a sale over no height adjustment in the Custom Trim, make sure your customers are aware of good quality height adding seat cushions. The one I bought gave me 2" of height and greatly improved my ability to see over the hood and judge how close I am to something. These new Silverados have so much headroom and such a big hood, height adjustment should be standard on all trim lines. I used to sell Fords and I drove Ford Trucks for over 30 years until a lemon 2004 Sick-0 Powerstroke got me to try a new 08 Silverado Duramax and I was hooked on Chevy trucks. This 2020 is my 3rd new Chev truck. Best of luck in sales and you are selling a great product.
KB Cars Hi, I do not know how to send a link on this reply but just go to Amazon and do a search for " auto cushion for height " the one I bought is the Larrous. I ordered the black and the material is almost identical to the black Custom.
Great Video KB!! I ended up picking up a Custom TB last night that had a couple of the packages such as Multi-flex Tailgate and Onstar etc. Mine has the 5.3, which is plenty of power for the average truck owner. To me the choice on Custom was purely a price-point. The only LT model TrailBoss they had in stock would have been another $175/month on top of my agreed upon payment. Everyone has to choose what is important to them, and to me that extra $$ just wasn't worth it for fog lights and a couple extra cup holders :). The beauty of trucks is you can put endless mods on them to make them your own anyway. Take care everyone.

I’ve got the ‘22 LT Trail Boss. 20" wheels. Satin Steel Metallic. Blacked out, all emblems are black, tinted all the way around. Tinted tail lights and 3rd brake light. Got the stubby antenna. The only thing chrome on it is the outline of the front bow tie. Even changed out the chrome lug nuts to gloss black to match the wheels. The truck Looks killer. Little bit of a gas guzzler, but that’s ok, I pretty much just use it on the weekends.
So, onstar was omitted in this particular Custom TrailBoss, which is a dealership option when ordering new inventory. but the Vast Majority of dealerships you vist will have Onstar in their Custom and Custom TrailBoss.
You forgot to mention a couple other things they have in common: 1. Crappy A/C evaporator under dash that when fails costs over 4000 to repair. 2. These engines have blown before 6k miles because of fuel management system. 3. Transmissions are poorly built in mexico and fail quickly but minimally start clunking into gear around 30k miles but generally sooner. Before you think I am too critical I own one but anyone that does not opt for extended warranty is begging for trouble. Good looking trucks IMO but engineering lacks big time. Good luck.
I bought the custom. He said the custom didn't come with a number of things. Not exactly true. Mine came with a bunch of stuff he said the custom doesn't come with.
@@nine9whitepony526 mine did as well, I have onstar, remote start, bed liner, step sides and the tailgate release on the key fob or and the key fob to let all the windows dwn as well
It's a customized package guys, some come with some come without. My custom has most LT options except the extra storage in the interior. Shaved 10 grand off just for that. Worth it. I'll make my own 😊
you got one off the cheap custom trail bosses cause my brother just got a 2021 trail boss custom and it has a lot of the same things the lt has but the custom your showing doesn’t
Kevin Mcbride , I have the Custom which comes with Apple Car Play and using my iPhone ( 5 year old phone SE ) the Apple Nav screen that comes up is better than the built in Nav was in my 2016 High Country . I would think the Android system would be as good. Also Spotify works so well with my Apple Car Play I really like my Custom, no buyer remorse here.
@@healthballnut i just traded in a 2017 ford with mytouch3 and the nav is integrated into the vehicle. This 2020 trailboss lt is a step or two backwards in that sense. This may sound kinda dumb and I apologize but ill explain, i wanted this chevy for the simplicity. Mainly under the hood. The ecoboosts are great motors and the worry on my end may all be for no reason but i wanna buy a truck to haul all my work stuff and not worry about engine. This 5.3l sbc is just that. The 3.5 eco in an f150 is just too tempting to tune and have 600rwhp. So, i got this trailboss in the lt trim and the only thing i didnt want was moonroof and signals in the mirrors(which i kinda regret). I ordered the dark bs package which was black lettering on the tailgate. Im not sure about that either. The badging is ok but the black set into the "chevrolet" stamped into the tailgate is kinda offputting. I might remove them. Im also thinking about having the front and rear bumper done in summit white and putting a white peragon cover on the bed.
BigTyronie , 9 years ago I was selling Fords for awhile and really like the F150s. I had my 08 Duramax Dually at the time but I never drove it to work. Everything I have read about the Ecoboost makes me feel it is a very reliable engine and the dealership had a new Taurus SHO which was a hoot to drive with the 3.5 Ecoboost. The 2010 and 2011 trucks I sold with Triton engines were slow compared to Ram and GMC. Now Ford has the fastest truck on the market with the Ecoboost but at sea level, the naturally aspirated 6.2 GMC is very close.
@@healthballnut i passed on the 6.2. The power to fuel rstio was terrible lol. The 5.3 is pretty quick with tye 10spd. The 6.2 was a hair faster but just seemed noisier. It was between a f150 and the trail boss. Then i decided 2020 superduty diesel. Thatll be next if i dont keep this trailboss. Ive got a 8x7x16 encl trailer on order and if this truck pulls it just fine im probably out of the diesel game. But you are right. Ive owned 4 or 5 ecoboost vehicles(not all 3.5s) and they seemed to be dialed in.
The custom has Apple car play and android auto either which will provide navigation on the screen via your phone. And its much better than any in car nav system. Also updates on tour phone automatically and free. That doesnt happen on built in units. They are old fashioned and wh have a unit stuck just in your vehicle?
Great video , excellent explanation thanks for sharing awesome images , but I would like to know the price difference between those two please let me know..thanks 👍🇺🇸
Thank you :) There is about an $8,700 difference between the Custom TB and the LT TB. Keep in mind they both have a lot of package options and individual customizable options so what you see on the lot could be quite a bit different.
awesome video. I've had my F150 for 18 years and was looking to get another...but I'm really impressed with the new Chevys. So learning as much as I can. I love the look of the Trail Boss. Do either of these come with Navigation standard on the center screen (if not what's the package?) or backup camera (if not what's the package?)
Excellent consideration! Navigation is available through OnStar on all trims and comes standard with Apple Carplay & Android Auto (use your phone for navigation). Backup camera is also standard on all trim levels.
The Custom is a joke. Its a Trail Boss package work truck. You're better off getting a base model and putting the lift on after and you would come out ahead. The LT is much better if you want more that basically just an AM/FM radio and a lift kit lol. I got my LT "fully loaded" for 46K. Never looked back, best decision hands down is the LT.
I"m with you. I had a Sierra work pick up and those reach through the steering wheel controls are for the birds. I traded it for a 2017 Silverado LTZ Z-71. It's got Bose sound, NAV, the works.
I'm confused. I bought used 2019 trail boss custom and i have fog lights, storage in the upper armrest, armrest and storage compartments in the back set, onstar. Help me out I'm lost
Does anybody know if the LT trail boss comes with a sport exhaust from the factory (I’m asking because I noticed it has a dual exhaust) or does it sounds exactly the same as a regular RST?
I believe the dealers offer an option for a Borla cat-back touring upgrade. I put a Borla cat-back Stinger on my Silverado and my mother in law thinks I need a muffler.
frank fagundes apparently you can get them to switch the seats out for you. I haven’t done it yet so I can’t give you a price. I’m contemplating it because the custom is essentially a souped up work truck.
You would think they would have put at least the upper storage console in the custom . You are spending a decent amount of money already. Even on a work truck I purchased back in 2003 it had one. I actually was thinking of getting this model. Wish they would have just put one in there .
If i was really going to pound my truck off road, i would find a custom package that was in the low 30’s. But i have a LT and love it. Wouldn’t take it off road.
In comparison to all other trucks in this class, the 2020 & 2021 Silverado 1500 trucks, which includes the trail boss, is the most unreliable trucks on the market today just due to the never ending transmission failures alone that have plagued this truck for the last 8 years! You can look it up on the Internet and you’ll see it for yourself! The Silverado Trail boss has many other problems also. I bought a fully loaded trail boss LT and it’s been nothing but a headache from day one, with everything from dying in my yard seven days after I bought it, to where it needed to be towed back to the dealership, to electrical problems, computer problems, four-wheel-drive issues, water leaking into the truck through the spoiler that sits on the back of the cab, and now my transmission just went out of my brand new truck. I know four other customers who live in the small town where I live who all have had the transmissions go out in their “new” trail boss trucks that they purchased in 2020. If you look on the Internet you will see that these trucks are plagued with multiple problems, and if you’re smart, you will never purchase one of these trucks! I wouldn’t take another one of these damn things if you paid me to do it!! These problems are on top of the fact that the headlights suck if you’re going up and down a mountain highway because you won’t be able to see Elk, Deer, or anything else on the road unless it’s “right” in front of you! The dome lights inside the truck make it to where you can’t see anything in the cab at night unless it’s 2 inches from the lights! I have a fully loaded LT & the driver side is electric but the passenger side is not. It’s obviously that GM was trying to save money when they built this piece of shit truck because you can tell how cheaply they were made, but the price is Way over what it should be. If you buy a used vehicle you can give it back to the dealership within three days for pretty much any reason, but when you buy a new vehicle like this, YOU OWN IT!! You can’t give it back to the dealership for ANY reason!! With rebates etc. I was supposed to only pay 48,000 but by the time they added all their bullshit on the truck along with an extended warranty, I financed this truck for 59,000.
I wish they didn't change the front on the custom because on the Standard you cant get a Double Cab long bed only in the custom I think it's just the grill and lights they changed but still they shouldn't have changed it
My Custom Trailboss has the Onstar feature above. But why is this LT making me regret my purchase of a Custom :( My goodness, it has the center seat AND storage!! 😭. Can I upgrade my current truck after the fact??
Great question! Not that I've heard of yet, but I'm sure it's coming. For 2020 they loosened up some of the constraints on the 2.7 and 6.2 engines and allowed them on more trim levels. As we like to say here in Cleveland, "Maybe next year" lol
Great question lol It was recorded right at the transition period for model years. I'd like to say they were 2019's, not sure that we would have had too many 2020's on the lot at that time.
Not sure I want another Chevy now...... Had a 89 2500, a 00' 1500, a 04 2500 diesel, a 13 1500 I got now. Need a new 1 . Options suck , same inside for the most part. Seats suck , over priced . Bummer 👎👎
Nothing on the LT will make it work better. Extra options for 10K + is not what a truck should be. I'd get the custom because it doesn't have all the the useless crap that the LT has/needs. Im sure im not the only one that likes a capable truck without all of the electronic BS that THEY think you need. Whatever happened to a truck you can buy the way you want it to be???
I get it. Some people like the options and some people don't. That's why they created them at two very different trim levels and with a variety of packages. That way you can get it pretty much how you want. Worst case-scenario, do a custom order and get it exactly the way you want :)
The 2019 and the 2020 Silverado1500 custom has no interior storage underneath the arm rest... That's sucks...Having storage underneath the arm rest should be included after all this is a common thing to have at any cost. They took it to the extreme by not having it....for that reason I wouldn't buy one....
I have a Custom without the storage in the center console and I'm wondering if I can either get a LT console from the dealership, or from a wrecked one at a junkyard, and if it will fit in my Custom.
Lt looks way better and way better packages. So glad i got a loaded lt with 6.2. Baddest truck i see around rn. Both of those trucks r speced like shit.

Just got the Custom Trail Boss and wish it had Navigation and a nicer entertainment system.....my only gripes thus far
Everything I have read about the Ecoboost makes me feel it is a very reliable engine and the dealership had a new Taurus SHO
which was a hoot to drive with the 3.5 Ecoboost.
I don’t like GM but if I were to buy one it would be a custom trail boss with minimal options and with the 6.2
then you have no business getting one if you don't like it
Sam Fascione yes mam
Some of the LT features I have on my 2021 custom that’s weird
Same here Dewey!
What sucks is that the LT trail boss and normal LT silverado are way way nicer that the customs the customs are about $10000 cheaper!
LT TRAIL BOSS HERE I CONE !!!!❤❤❤
Great choice!
Great video , excellent explanation thanks for sharing awesome images , but I would like to know the price difference between those two please let me know..thanks 👍🇺🇸
Thank you :) There is about an $8,700 difference between the Custom TB and the LT TB. Keep in mind they both have a lot of package options and individual customizable options so what you see on the lot could be quite a bit different.
custom has less crap that will break thought gm has problems with there fuel mangement system sure led headlight are expense too replace
awesome video.
18 years(wow)
The Custom is a joke. Its a Trail Boss package work truck. You're better off getting a base model and putting the lift on after and you would come out ahead. The LT is much better if you want more that basically just an AM/FM radio and a lift kit lol. I got my LT "fully loaded" for 46K. Never looked back, best decision hands down is the LT.
Yup u have a great point!
I"m with you. I had a Sierra work pick up and those reach through the steering wheel controls are for the birds. I traded it for a 2017 Silverado LTZ Z-71. It's got Bose sound, NAV, the works.
Afm stands for expensive engine issues, not worth it imo. Simplicity and cheaper price for the same body / engine.
If you're looking to buy this truck. Wait till 2022. Their redesigning it and will look 10x more better.
I think you can get the 6.2 on the LT but not with the custom. That would be the deal maker for me.
Correct
Actually you can get the 6.2 with the custom trail boss.
@@curtisripperger1313 yes, on 2020 models you can, but not on 2019
True. I though he was talking about this year's models. My bad

How do you get the front lights to blink like that?
Camera refresh rates lol It's not noticeable to the human eye in person :)
Great comparison. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Great video.. thank you! But what is the price difference?
About $8,000 difference in starting MSRP
LT is nice but does it come with lube? A Z71 with a 2inch lift? Anywhere from $55K and up? Wow
RIP off
I'm confused. I bought used 2019 trail boss custom and i have fog lights, storage in the upper armrest, armrest and storage compartments in the back set, onstar. Help me out I'm lost
Very informative thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching :)
Does anybody know if the LT trail boss comes with a sport exhaust from the factory (I’m asking because I noticed it has a dual exhaust) or does it sounds exactly the same as a regular RST?
Sounds about the same in my opinion
I believe the dealers offer an option for a Borla cat-back touring upgrade. I put a Borla cat-back Stinger on my Silverado and my mother in law thinks I need a muffler.
The custom would work for me if it had at least center storage
frank fagundes apparently you can get them to switch the seats out for you. I haven’t done it yet so I can’t give you a price. I’m contemplating it because the custom is essentially a souped up work truck.
@@mmixonphotos yeah it between WT and LT
You would think they would have put at least the upper storage console in the custom . You are spending a decent amount of money already. Even on a work truck I purchased back in 2003 it had one. I actually was thinking of getting this model. Wish they would have just put one in there .
If i was really going to pound my truck off road, i would find a custom package that was in the low 30’s. But i have a LT and love it. Wouldn’t take it off road.
Stephen Russell the generation before this one had it too
When I can buy one, I'll come up. I live in north eastern ohio
Good Lord. Glad I read this. I won't be getting one now! Thanks!
Just bought the 2021 custom in the midnight blue( dark blue) it fucking rocks!!! Does anyone know if it has the sport mode though?
I believe it's only on LT and above
Do all trail boss have the trailering package?
Esas en mexico se llaman Silverado y Cheyenne
My LT does not have a lot of those options
This one has some extra packages :)
you guys do 110 point inspection on your used cars and trucks
172 on certified
Any hard shifts with the transmission in ether of these?
Awesome info and cool upload
Just bought a 2019 trail boss lt love it
What are my blue tooth phone options on the custom? Can I make hands free calls ?
Yes, Bluetooth is standard, the steering wheel controls for it are an upgrade.
Is that really worth $10,000 though?
Hell no! You can buy a lift kit wheels & tires for way cheaper and reasonably price !
I would say yes.
Is the towing the same on both?
What? No stupid intro graphics with awful retching guitar solos? Just facts? Kinda weird. I loved it. Thanks!
What’s the gas mileage on a custom trail boss in the 4.6L ??
EPA-estimated MPG city/highway: 16/21 (2WD), 15/20 (4x4)
I’m getting 14.6 on 2wd city 16 on highway lol
I wish they didn't change the front on the custom because on the Standard you cant get a Double Cab long bed only in the custom I think it's just the grill and lights they changed but still they shouldn't have changed it
Awesomely fun knowing!!! Subbed
Thank you :)
My Custom Trailboss has the Onstar feature above. But why is this LT making me regret my purchase of a Custom :( My goodness, it has the center seat AND storage!! 😭. Can I upgrade my current truck after the fact??
Also, I’m 5’ 7” and having to sit on pillows to see good enough! Thank goodness I’m all legs! Can I get my seats lifted??
Great review. Thanks
Thank you :)
What year are these? Thanks.
2019
Do you know if chevy will ever offer the trail boss LT with the 3.0L Duramax?
Great question! Not that I've heard of yet, but I'm sure it's coming. For 2020 they loosened up some of the constraints on the 2.7 and 6.2 engines and allowed them on more trim levels. As we like to say here in Cleveland, "Maybe next year" lol
Why would you want that?
Can you upgrade to a 6.2 on the LT??
For 2020 you can upgrade to the 6.2 in both the LT and Custom Trail Boss
Yup, 2020 or newer as of right now. Haven't seen the Custom TB with the 6.2 on lots anywhere yet, putting in a custom order for a customer.
Very helpful, thank you!
I’ll take the black one
should get a lt?
If your budget allows, go for it! I like all the features, but they aren't important to everyone.
Why was I told that I wasn’t able to upgrade my custom to remote start by Chevy? It’s a 2019.. is that true?
Not sure why they would tell you that. It's available from the factory and your local dealer can order it and have it installed if you'd like :)
Thanks! Great video!
What about rst and trail boss?
Are these 2019 or 2020
Great question lol It was recorded right at the transition period for model years. I'd like to say they were 2019's, not sure that we would have had too many 2020's on the lot at that time.
I like the custom front grill look wish that came on lt
The black grille would look aesthetically better if the bumper was painted the body color.
How much is the LT
Nice video 🤙

"TRAIL"Boss. The second you get mud in the rear brake calipers, the brakes fail, and the rotors get destroyed. Happened to me twice. In 71000km.

Not sure I want another Chevy now...... Had a 89 2500, a 00' 1500, a 04 2500 diesel, a 13 1500 I got now. Need a new 1 . Options suck , same inside for the most part. Seats suck , over priced . Bummer 👎👎
Take a good look at the Ford Super Duty trucks!
Ozzie Fernandez just because there isn’t any storage under the arm rest 😂that’s pathetic dude that shouldn’t define the pickup
It should fit, but I recommend double checking with a GM certified parts or body shop to make sure
You can order the center console with storage, I did. C

For a custom Z71 they sure did a cheap job on everything!
The upgraded center console is a terrible design, and the only way Onstar would ever have any consumer value is if it was free.
ill take any truck with an actual physical key
They have trouble with 8 speed 😂😂😂
Neither are build to last for more than from home to office. Still might blow up
