People think 100 footballers is a lot and should be easy to get on the list, but when you think how long football has gone for and how many legends there have been in each decade, 100 footballers is a really small number and is tougher to get in than you think. So instead of being annoyed that your favourite childhood footballers are somewhere between the 100-60 spot, you should be thrilled that your favourite footballers are even mentioned!
GREAT LIST ! So much effort put in and remembering players of the past.....thank you.

Agreed, bad hair Ronaldo and Best are too high for me for their shorter careers. Id also have Cruyff a bit higher. Hard to debate between eras but Messi is the best ive seen
@@ajbianchi85 best definitely but r10 was great
Gerd Müller was the best striker of his time. Absolutely lethal. You just had to get the ball somewhere near him in the box. Yes, a one trick pony but in terms of win contributions simply unmatched.

Huge respect to you for making this list, I’ve recently tried to make my own top 50 and I didn’t realise how hard it would be, let alone a top 100! I revisited this vid for help and I was blown away by your detail so well done
Uwe Seeler and Fritz Walter😍Glad you included them
Maybe the best option to please everybody would be to somehow include 300 names in the top-100 list...
I don't even think that would be enough. People will get angry anyways ;)
I really think this is a great list - even though I disagree with some of the choices. I would place Beckenbauer a lot higher and generally move some of the defenders a bit up in the list. And Zidane especially! He would be in my top 15.
But if I had the right to remove one player and include another one, I would include Zlatan and remove Busquets.
What most people seem to forget, is that Johan Cruyff was chosen Europe’s best footballer of the 20th Century!
I. O. W. The best player in a 100 years.
His influence on the game is still current today. No other player (the Pelé’s and Maradona’s, etc.) had such an impact on The Beautiful Game as he did.
Johan, R. I. P.
Agreed.
You also have to keep in mind that European football dominated the popular narrative, since Western media had obvious vested interests in the occurrings of European football as opposed to those in the South American scene. Cruyff was definitely one of the best ever, and a brilliant mind, also possibly the greatest coach ever, but was nowhere close to as talented or objectively greater, in terms of the Big Game, as Maradona or Pele. Talent and greatness wise, they were miles ahead of Cruyff. No offense, good take though. Also, Pele played in an era before the Ballon D'or was awarded to non-Europeans too, and it's proprietors suggest he would have won the award 7 times, at a minimum, during his career. This, despite his primary fame coming from just the World Cup victories. Not his historic club career, too.
RIP indeed.
You must be joking... As I will say that johan was better then pele (considering they played in complete different times) peles impact on the game is in incomparable to any other footballer... he changed how the game was played and looked at entirely...
Roma Ronaldo pele played against taxi drivers, and he is called goat just because of that lie about 1200+goals,500+of that goals were scored while he was serving army or smthng,if messi counted his goals in young barca team he would have 1100+ goals

I don't necessarily agree with all the rankings but I appreciate the effort it took to make this video.
Great video. I respect the amount of work that went into this. Must've taken ages.
Thierry Henry number 94 wowwwwww that’s disappointing
Henry deseved better
at the peak of his powers at Arsenal, yes, Thierry Henry was extraordinary.
but the list is ranked by multiple criteria, key of which is longevity, and consistency across their career.
Henry was mediocre at Monaco, poor at Juventus, and at the age of 22 when he signed for Arsenal, his first two seasons were little better than the season Tammy Abraham just managed, albeit he clearly had more ability., he just hadn't found his end product yet.
the next five seasons... were utterly extraordinary. between 2001 and 2006, Henry was the most lethal forward in football. if the decision was made solely on that peak period, he would be in the top 20.
his final season at Arsenal and his time at Barcelona were a significant downgrade, obviously still an immensely technically skilled player, but he didn't even manage a 50% goal-rate in his time in Catalonia
and even dropping down to the MLS he couldn't recapture his previous goalscoring form.
of his 360 career goals:
166 were scored in 242 games across the space of those 5 seasons. an average of 0.68 goals per game, and of 33 goals a season.
the other 194 were scored in 550 games across 16 seasons, an average of 0.35 goals per game and 12.1 goals a season
so it is somewhat justified.
What can you expect from a player who went to MLS at 32? You should be grateful that he is among the top 100 and more if you consider his position has tons of tons of great players (Ronaldo, Pele, Puskas, Eusebio, Gerd Muller, van Basten, Romario and many more)
This isn't a top 100 from just the last 20 years idiot
@@Omnipotentmonkey spot on. The hype in England is too much. Bergkamp is for me arsenal’s best player of all time.

I don't personally think anyone should be creating best ever lists.
A lot of the players on the list, have only been seen by the lists creator in black and white photos.
I think people should only make lists of the greatest players they have actually seen extensive footage of.
I disagree with a lot of the list but it's all subjective and just my opinions.

@@blabla-rg7ky how’s it biased?
Hey Alfie, I just thought of a cracking idea for a video you could do on the turbulent recent history of Goztepe in the Super Lig. They’re one of the Super Lig’s most well supported clubs (a bit like a Newcastle United, Sunderland or Strasbourg if you may). In the 2001/02 season, they finished seventh in the top flight, however from 2002 to 2008, they were relegated five times in six seasons, due to their inability to reduce their outstanding debt which resulted in the football club being banned from signing new players during that time. In August of 2007, a business based in Istanbul, vowed to take them back to the top flight making them one of the top five clubs in the country, but they were met with lots of suspicions from the fan base, and then they handed over the ownership to another bloke called Mehmet Sepil in 2014. Anyway, they’re back in the Super Lig as a solid mid table/weaker top half team. Why am I bringing all this up? Because apparently Abramovich is looking to possibly buy the club himself, after being sanctioned from the UK. It’s a crazy crazy story and may you could look into this, not to mention, they are not only a rare example of a club that is considered a neighbourhood club, as well as the fact that they’ve played in 3 different stadiums since 2011, but also in 1969, they became the first Turkish football team to play a semi-final of a European competition.
Henry should be at least top 40

Um! The guy's a legend in his own (ginormous) head, thinking he's the most accomplished Swedish sportsman! Rightly, many didn't agree - Bjorn Borg won 5 Wimbledons in a row (and six French Opens). Zlatan doesn't even have ONE Champions League!
I agree- people don’t like to rate zlatan because of his outspoken personality. But people forget he’s probably the most consistent forward the game has ever seen. The guy pretty much carried AC Milan to their first Title in years at the age of 40. That to me, is far more impressive than winning a champions league surrounded by world class players. Zlatan is probably the 3rd best attacker of the messi and Ronaldo era and he’s one of the best players to never have a ballon dor. In my list he’s definitely top 20.
@@YummoWickershamjust at number 9 during his career je was outclassed by other strikers with more longevity and better careers overall: Lewandowski, Suarez, Benzema...
I agree he had great longevity... But not at the very top level. He was not able to adapt to the great Barcelona of Guardiola, he then went back to Italy when the Serie A was in decline, he then went to PSG where he was the best player in a ligue 1 that was far from the Bundesliga, Liga and PL (and he disappointed in the Champions League un big games)... then he went to MLS and a struggling United.
In Milan he showed incredible longevity... But still not at the highest level in World football.
In the meantime Lewandowski, Benzema and Suarez consistently kept their seats and were among the best players in world class teams winning more impressive trophees.
Zlatan was never on the ballon d'or Podium (and rightly so).

You mean 21st century so far
Lionel Messi at the top spot paid off big time 4 you. I used to be the biggest Messi hater ever since he scored the header against Utd followed by Wembley. Not anymore.
I guarantee most people disagreeing with this list are basing their arguments off of fifa cards instead of research
Ya true about pirlo and Henry but Gullit is a beast
Do you really think Laudrup was greater than RONALDINHO?!?!?
@@joaovictor20101 yeah. He’s not as well remembered because Ronaldinho was an out and out entertainer, but in terms of being able to drag his team to victory (the goal of football) Laudrup was better than Ronaldinho
Do you think Sergio Ramos, carlos puyol, and cantona should not be in top 100??
I don't play Fifa, but I consider Roberto Carlos the best Left back in history. I don't think he should just be an honorable mention.
Alan Shearer should atleast be on the honorable mentions
And rooney too. This guy is an idiot
Where is lineker, shearer and Rooney
@@vladimyrmorris6554 he probably worked several hours a day for couple of days at this list and you call him an idiot just because he doesn't mention one player out of 1000 possible candidates for this top 100 list.

“If you take Cristiano’s 700 goals away he’s not an all time great” is the worst argument I’ve ever heard mate
exactly mate
He's talking about his overall play if you were to take away messi pele or Maradona goals they would still be very high on this list because they dont just need goals to influence a game. That's why their higher then him
@@MrZak381 im glad somebody understands
That's actual a good argument you just don't get it
@@kip8230 it would make sense if he wasn’t a better goal scorer than the people ahead of him
I don't get why people say C. Ronaldo doesn't do much outside of goal scoring when he as the 4th or 5th highest assist record of all time in Football. By the time he left La Liga, he had the 3rd highest assist record behind Xavi and Messi, and currently has the highest assist record in Champions League history.
People say that when u compare him to Messi. And it gets people annoyed. But if u compare Ronaldo to another player, he may be ahead but not for Messi.
@@okonkwoikennamartin5525 Sure, Messi's the best ever, I'm saying this even though Ronaldo is my favorite player. But that's not my point, people say he doesn't do anything else other than goal score, even when he's not being compared to Messi.
He does do a lot outside goalscoring just not as much as most of the all time greats maradona messi or even someone like puskas were way better playmakers and passers
Zidane 41 Henry 96🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ronaldinho is 41 not Zidane
@@canarycatchup He is 29. Still ridiculous
He was inconsistent, however I would have him top 20 probably 18tg
Not ridiculous at all
Zidane is overrated, watch this then decide

Can't believe you actually put Coluna in! Eternal Captain! Amazing player! Thank you!
I came back to this comment as I told my friends there were 4 portuguese players in this list and they easily said Ronaldo, Eusebio and Figo. Then after some time thinking they gave answers such as Rui Costa or Deco for the 4th one. When I said Coluna they gave me funny faces. Even my dad gave me funny faces. Fast forward some weeks, I told my grandfather about the list and said "There are 4 Portuguese Players, try and guess", and he replied "Ronaldo..." and so I said, "Yeah the first three are easy, it's Ronaldo, Eusebio and F-" and he interrupted me with "Coluna..." as I said "You ruined the whole charade but thankfully you gave reason to the choice". He added that Coluna was the one that "lead the whole team", talking about the 60's Benfica
@@miguel_aquatico this is so cooolll, wish i had someone to talk to about historical football, literally no one i know had a clue😭
I feel like Hugo Sanchez should be in the list
Underrated upcomer that I have kept an eye on is Sala

My top 10 Poet Footballers if all time :-
1. William Wordsworth ( A great full back. May have to be dissuaded from the belief that daffodils grow in the pitch !)
2. Seamus Heaney ( Good, solid Northern Irish addition to the team. May be 'Twice Shy' about performing to his true potential, however.)
3. Ted Hughes ( A real "Bayonet Charge' of a performer ! Can also out 'Thought-Fox' the opposition.
3. TS Eliot ( I would play him under the name 'J. Alfred Prufrock' to confuse the opposition.
4. Simon Armitage ( Gritty Yorkshireman. Able to 'Kid' the opposition very successfully !)
5. Alfred Lord Tennyson. ( Will 'Charge' into the opposition - just like the Light Brigade
6. Percy Bysshe Shelley ( May show a lack of stamina in some matches - TB ? - otherwise very dependable. Can run as swiftly as 'The Wild West Wind' !
6. John Keats ( Ditto about his stamina - possible TB. Needs to be dissuaded from the belief that the FA Cup is a ' Grecian Urn ' !
7. John Milton ( Without him - the team would be 'Paradise Lost' !)
8. William Shakespeare ( 'To be . . . or not to be' . . . in the starting X1 ? I would play him. Provided he swaps the doublet and hose for some PROPER shorts !
9. Philip Larkin ( A good, reliable player once he stops 'larking' around at the back ! Well, he always blames his parents. After all, "They fuck you up, your mum and dad'. So there !)😂😂
10. Carol Ann Duffy. ( Scary, Scottish striker - possible Lesbian. May cut off the opposition players' heads if they annoy her - like 'Salome' ! !😭😞😛)
you need to do the top 200 to 101. that should cause a few fights on the channel!
