This brings back memories. Summer 1969, Gaeltacht. Group from Nenagh convent. Brought to the island by currach from Naomh Eanna. Perfect experience for 15 year olds. What I learnt that June has never left me. Nearly 40 years ago for that couple. I hope they’ve had a very happy marriage.
Someday I will write down and tell the full story of my wedding, the many happenings that most people still talk about to this day with laughter and tears of fun and joy in their eyes about many things that happened before and during the wedding day that just does not happen to normal life, Like my tailor rescuing my incomplete suit and lily white shirt from the 3rd floor of a burning building a day before the wedding, I got the shock of my life when tailor told me how he had risked his life by pushing pass the firemen and climbed up burning stairs to rescue my suit and a few other items from the building but that he was not sure that he had collected all parts of the suit, it was full of the smell of smoke and his wife would have to spend the remaining hours trying to clean and remove the smell of the smoke, he also had to finish off the suit without a final fitting, it turned out to be a perfect fit. My refusal to attend preparation meetings at the church before the wedding. My arrival at the church was almost 1 hour late, the priest panicked and meeting me outside the church and asking if I was going to get married, I joking replied, let me have a look inside the church first then I will let you know, Instead of 1 priest finding 6 to 8 priests waiting on the altar for my arrival, A church full of people that I mostly did not know, everyone thinking that a wedding was not going to happen, the only one who was not worried was my future wife who know that she had met a man who did always like the normal rules of life, After the wedding in the church ,finding large long limousine parked up outside and a further large group of people standing by with grumpy faces. Much later I was told that this was the 2nd wedding that was to take place that day and I/me had caused a major delay to their wedding day, This is only a fraction of the happenings on that day. (no it was not all about me but I accidentally played my part) To this day my wife and family will get into a fit of laughter when remembering that day. Happy day. Yes indeed one of the very greatest days of my life and one remembered by those who attended, they still say it was the best party that they ever attended
And in the background, you can see a middle-aged priest having a picnic with an old drunk priest, a hamper full of empty wine bottles and a ton of egg sandwiches.

Kate - I was also there in 1969 - a few months later I was sent to Saint Flannan's Boarding College in Ennis.

Do not be insulting, your own words bitter and nasty, say who you are
So far off the mark!
