Today we take a listen to the DOD FX50-B Overdrive Plus. A really great sounding overdrive pedal from the 90's! How's it sound? Take a listen! Thanks as always for watching!

This was my first pedal in the late 80's. Still have it. Played it through a Peavey Bandit lol.
Love That!!! Good one to keep around! I may have had/exploded a bandit or three myself 😂
This was my second pedal. I bought it from a pawn shop in the late 90s. My first was a DOD Death Metal. I played through a Peavey Rage. 😂😅
First review of many that sounds good. Thank.
Arctic Gummibear Thank you very much for the nice comment and for watching! It's a cool overdrive for sure and you really can't argue with the prices!
There are not many mods for this pedal but here's a hint: it has two clipping stages, soft and hard, both symmetrical with 1N4148 diodes. Try lifting each one and then the other one (always leaving one of the two connected) or play with different diodes schemes (symmetrical, asymmetrical, Ge, Si, LED, there are no limits). It's not a popular pedal but it's still pretty modificable.
Thats cool, now I wish I kept it to mess with it! Cheers!
@@JobyP I got one mint condition for free as a gift buying a second hand Cry Baby, so can't lose nothing but time messing with the values. Right now I'm trying to calculate the tonestack mods to make it more midrangey and less harsh. Here's what I got so far:
C11 (10uF electrolytic) swap for .068 non polarized, this moves the bass frecuency from 4 Hz to 71 Hz, or as well swap the 3k3 resistor in series with C11 to 220 Ohm.
For treble, the original cap is 22nF with a freq rolloff 2.2 kHz. Change the 3k3 resistor in series with C7 (22nF) for at least 4k7 up to 6k8 (between around 1.6 and 1 kHz, i.e. mid-treble).
I like the sound of this pedal. A DOD tends to have a hard to control "bite". This one sounded really good. Good video.
Thank you very much Jody!
think in the amp too... in SS amps sound diffetent but quite well too
nice choice of chords for the demo
Thanks Very Much!
Wow. This was my first pedal back in the early 90's and I apparently was too much of a knob to appreciate it. It lingered in my mind as being shitty. But you demoed it quite well. Now I want one again. However, what I really want is to find a way to mod it or recreate it in a better setup (better switch, true bypass, etc). Thanks!
I always wanted to do that to a Danelectro “Tuna Melt Tremolo” still my favorite Tremolo ever...
Was My first pedal tooo
This pedal is beastial. Nice demo.
J_ WAH Thanks for watching and commenting it’s appreciated!
my next buy,really cool pedal
I love those picks too.
Don’t you love them best when they are fresh out of the package and still have that powder on them?!?! It’s a slice of heaven to me lol!
Yep lol
Mine got soaked and got ruined. I miss it so much. This is one of my all time favorites. Idk why they would discontinue such an awesome pedal.
Sorry bud!!! I wish I hadn’t sold this pedal to be honest it was super clean in condition and sounded great! Think i was just “on the hunt” cheers!!!
2 dod pedals that were amazing were this one and the stereo chorus. I think we should start a petition for digitech to make them again. Overdrive plus had the warmest creamiest overdrive. You can just sit there all day and play it. The stereo chorus is the best chorus ive ever heard. Its mind blowing to me personally that they don't make them any more. They sounded so good! Now i'm mad! Lol
They also made an INSANELY good octave pedal!!! I'd like to see a re-issue on that.
Thanks. This video was very useful for me.
Damián Gustavo Repetto you’re very welcome, Thanks for watching/commenting! It is appreciated ~ Joby
My local store had this pedal, a newer 250, a DFX 9, a later Gonkulator Ringmod and an FX747 Supersonic Stereo Flange. I really debated on getting this or the 747. I had to go 747.
Hmmmm.... I feel ya, I probably would have gone for the 250 in that situation but whatever you wan't/need is the right choice homie!!! Cheers!
is pikachu providing the power to the pedal?
Nawww.... he’s just chilling he puts out way more than 9volts.
Somebody is a fan of HUM...
Somebody is… 😉
This sounds really great, looks like it packs a lot of range into three knobs.
It's a great little pedal if you can find one in good shape. I have found one where the caps were all dried out and it sounded terrible... You can re-cap them but it's kind of a pain.... so if you pick one up... play it first!
Cheers!
Got mine in 2006..15$ sold it for $10... Buying back 70$ lol
Haha! I’ve been there man!
I bought one of these in 1989 and fuck knows where it went. Great pedal for the money. However, I do still have the sticker on my guitar case which lead me here
That happened to me witha Green Russian Muff.... I have NO IDEA where the fuck that pedal went... I didn't sell it but it's just gone....
Nice
Thanks Damian! I appreciate you watching/commenting/subscribing!
What guitar/amp setup are you using for this?
Sam Shore Hi Sam, thanks for watching/commenting. This was a Classic Player Jazzmaster and My Orange Thunderverb 50 on the clean channel
How is the guitar tuned?
Drop D
With those little silver things at the headstock, genius.
I bought this to use as a booster pedal. However, not much help.
Yeah a bit dirty for boost…
Your playing style sounds like the band Violent Soho
sammy_fkn_t I take that as a complete compliment. I know Violent Soho and dig a couple of their tunes. I would say tho this particular video was me playing HUM(ish) riffs... I appreciate you watching and commenting. Happy Thanksgiving
jobyregrets haha well there ya go! Even the pedal has a Soho-esque sound I'd say, I'm gonna buy one of these off a lad on the Australian muso market
sammy_fkn_t Cool! Like I said in the video Check the switch before you buy. They tend to go to shit!
sounds like hum to me
I had one. I hated it so much I gave it away. lol
Yep, when I was 15 I got one but it always overrode about 4 different practice amps I had so I traded it with some cash for something else
Had one in the 90s…absolutely hated it..of all the od pedals I’ve owned in the last 40 years or so, this was the absolute worst..I didn’t even sell it..I threw it in the garbage after a week or so..
For a long time - this was my first Nr. 1- Pedal. Better as TS-808 and all the shit.
Special guest: Pikachu
Yep... Pikachu’s just chilling.... being yellow... that’s how he rolls.
power chord...
Chord(s) lol cheers 🍻
It kinda sounds like the old RATs!
Once you get into the boost part it gets pretty Scuzzy...
