This is really incredible, thank you for this video! I am a disabled lap steel player - I wish I could play like this, but I wouldn't be able to sit the right way or play with my fingers due to my disability (when I play, it's with a pick, using fingers is too painful for me). The sound of the Mohan Veena has always amazed me - I wish there was a way to transfer some of the concepts to lap steel so I could learn. Thank you from Canada!
I'm humbled with those words! Thank you so much! Let's connect! I'd love to discuss this over a thorough chat, i can definitely deliver some of the tricks haha! My email is ayushmary099@gmail.com, hope you're having a great one there! :)
Glad I could help! Apologies for not being frequent with the lessons, I'm trying my best to get back! However if you shall need any help with the Mohan Veena, do find me on instagram @sunnys6x Have a great one ahead! Thanks again :)
Hello Sunny, I would have most likely enjoyed watching your previous instructional videos completely (after getting a second hand one myself the same as yours) but not being able to tune the sympathetic strings even after many, many attempts and breaking over a half dozen of them is my major problem and seemingly a good reason to wait. One of the first things many learn/hear on a guitar is how to tune it and I am amazed that most every video on the MV out there doesn't show it properly with clear and concise instruction. If you really want people to buy, learn and enjoy playing the Mohan Veena, then you best start with this simple premise, that they should first 'Know How To Tune The Mohan Veena To a Standard Pitch in the Key of D'. I have since all but mastered making those sympathetic strings so I suppose there was an up-side to breaking as many as I have but I am running out of patience and don't really want it to end up stuck on my wall and be there forever as the 'lowly wall hanger'. You will probably find that it would become your most popular video, especially if it is short, concise and clear. *A plea from a frustrated new owner of a Mohan Veena*
Hey there! Greetings! My sincere apologies for the inconvenience! I'll surely do a how to tune the MV video as soon as I can! In the meantime let's connect! I'd love to help with the best I can! I do give online lessons regularly! My Instagram is @sunnys6x and my WhatsApp is +918369959750! Looking forward to hear from you! Have a great one ahead! :)
Can we play fast bollywood songs and western songs on mohan veena, there are no such videos, also do we play masitkhani and razakhani gats like sitar and sarod
Absolutely! It is a complete instrument capable of capturing and delivering all sorts of musical genre in general. It's mainly an Indian Classical instrument meant to play gats taans jhaala and so forth, also any sort of songs or dhuns! A magnificent innovation by Guruji Padma Bhushan Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt ji. Hello Sunny, Thanks a lot for such wonderful video elaborating basics of Indian Slide Guitar or Mohan Veena. How much it costs in mumbai or where I can buy it, any suggestion for new learner to buy this beautiful instrument, like model and what to look for etc.
The first string is considered to be the madhya saptak and the second one is Mandra Pa to the first string (Sa) hence the lower octave goes back from the 4th fret of the second string (that would be Shuddha Mandra Ni) and so on! Hope I could help, please e-mail me @ ayushmary099@gmail.com for any further assistance, I'd be glad to help. May you have a good one ahead :)
When at 6:47 Sunny is showing how to play the scale correctly at the farthest note from the head of the instrument when the new octane Do/Sah is heard there is a sound that is very characteristic to this instrument and to sitar which sounds almost like a split second dip into another not but quickly clears. It seems to happen with all of them but must pronounced when a phrase or set of notes is complete and another starts. Does anybody know what construction feature of Mohan Veena, and of Sitar makes it sound that way? Is it the special strings? Frets? It is it a particular style and method? Does this phenomenon have a name? Just to clarify further. If the first Do, and all ten notes in between sound sharp and clear, the next Do at the point of turning back has a “Doo-yaaaaw” sound where “yaaaw” is higher pitch and very quick.
