- This amazing stone bridge is still standing strong after 116 years. It was part of the Wilkes-Barre / Hazleton Railroad which was in operation from 1903 to 1933. Bridge is located in West Hazleton, Pa. The bridge is being impacted by Abandoned mine drainage

If, as you state, "there still is a rail on it, and it is used once a week", then it is most certainly NOT abandoned!
All that hand laid stone...What kind of mine was it???....What a beautiful bridge....
The creek, ( Black Creek ) that runs under it is impacted by AMD,,, Coal mines,, Hazleton area has numerous coal mines and strip mines
Hope they don't ever tear it down
Bridge is in use as a spur for the industrial park
yes, the train goes over it every week to a plastic plant. would love to catch that on video. Thanks for watching
I'm trying to ride the whole path from hazelton to Wilkes Barre on a bicycle.
Some parts have been destroyed or built over,,, but i'll send you info privately,, pls give me your email
Christian Cox That sounds cool 😎 hope you did it.
It's beautiful needs fixed though
is it right behind the old stroehmann Bakery?
very near it
Where is this located?
pls give me your email and i will send infor privately,,,
do you know how to locate the original tunnel through the mountain?
There are a LOT of resources about this tunnel... The map can be found online..
going to work now,,, will try to send more info later
My dad used to crawl thru it to hunt. He would walk up from Warrior Run. Then cross under the Mountain from Truesdale Terrace/Watinski's Villa. Then they built 81 and the Hanover side is now under 81 I guess. I have visited the Mountain top side though just off of 81 north near mile marker 161.1
There is now a fence across the entrance and it was also filled with earth to nearly the top of the opening. You can still claw your way to the hole and look in at the fence. Bah humbug
The tunnel is now closed up with a large grate and backfilled to be a habitat for bats. I was theer when it was opened a few times.
any posability of this being a rail trail
no, very unlikely,,, there still is a rail on it, and it is used once a week,,, It was abandoned for quite some time...
There is another RR bridge about 75 feet away from it, built in the 50's and it is in poor condition,,, yet the old stone bridge is still standing strong..
DD Explores Love the old stone arch bridges.
Amazing to think that is all manmade.
