IVE SEEN THIS ONE!!! IT FAILED WHEN I WENT TO SEE THE TEST!!! The guy who works on the sirens said this one has multiple issues and really needs to be fixed!
These wheelen electronic sirens are total junk. The intense direct heat from the sun kills electronics and batteries. The cities just need to go back to loud mechanical rotating or Omni directional sirens. They don’t fail nearly as often. And with good routine maintenance and inspection they shouldn’t fail at all. There’s a reason old WW2 era sirens still function today.
Any siren, mechanical or electronic, old or new, will have problems if you don't conduct maintenance properly. Whelen sirens are very reliable. This is why I hope to be a dealer of their products in the near future. Many sirens in the industry today utilize batteries and electronics. Federal Signal, American Signal, and Sentry Siren all use battery backup and motherboards, just as Whelens do. They're not any better than Whelen sirens based on that criteria.
CFComm Agreed. My county (Fairfield OH) has a ton of sirens and only 3 of them are not Whelens. And the only sirens that have broken down that I’ve heard of was one of the 3 Non-Whelen Sirens, and they’ve all broken down a lot. Whelens Rule! (I still want older sirens though lol)
@@EASsirenVids01 Whelens are more durable than people give credit for. Each and every unit is tested before leaving the factory. Not to mention the new orange Community brand drivers they use are tough as nails. Little known fact, Whelen operates prototype products in an 'extended study room' to test durability. Some products, such as lightbars, have been continuously activated with no problems since 2008 to this day!
@@EASsirenVids01 That just means they're not maintained properly, or even at all. Sounds like they're in need for a refurbishment or replacement (preferably refurbishment.) Whelens are only winning by matter of poor siren maintenance, thus, kind of an unfair reason to say Whelens rule.
The entire systems are outdated and antiquated. They should just rip them down and focus on more reliable systems such as SMS messaging to cell phones, etc.
That's your opinion but many people these days especially older people just cannot afford a smartphone which means the tornado sirens are extremely important And I disagree with you saying they are outdated, they don't sound like they go back that far
Also, consider if severe weather or any other disaster knocks out all towers and communication systems for SMS and cell phones. Sorry buddy but these sirens are still essential js. 🤷♀
@@brooklynparker182 that is very unlikely to happen as more cell towers are needed for 5G service. The sirens are meant to be heard when you are outdoors, not indoors. Additionally, deaf / hard of hearing people can't hear them (including me). Also "buddy", there are MANY instances where the sirens do not sound when they are needed.

@@SunsetfearOFFICIAL it might have been
It's a Whelen. What did you expect
Expecting it to work. They probably just need to replace it.
mn_sirens do you mean it's old and not very durable
@@twistercuber They cant because its privately owned by a guy on YT his name is Cherry 1880
I live near a siren while I in my room
Is it a Whelen Vortex R-4
Wouldn't have happened with a Federal Thunderbolt... *IJS.*
It’s a Whelen that’s why it doesn’t work.
