- Paul Muad'Dib addresses the Fedaykin following his awakening from the trance brought about by the Water of Life. He convinces them to accept him as the Atreides Duke, and prepares to unleash the fanatic Fremen legions upon the Known Universe.

Good enough to win Emmys.

@@Kwisatz-Chaderach tells you more about the value of the emmy than the series.
@@Sierraone1 not really since the series was great, and you sound r4tarded
The fact that Paul tells him here he is their Duke, not their Naib, is significant. At the end of the second miniseries we learn that Naib means something along the line of "servant of the sietch" - as their Duke, however, he does not serve them but they serve him. They sacrifice themselves for him, not he form them. This is an issue that comes up in a discussion between Leto II and Stilgar. Leto sees himself as a servant of humanity, and he brings the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of humanity by giving up his humanity and the hope of ever being considered a "good ruler" within history. In doing so, he is giving humanity the ruler they NEED, not the one they WANT. This scene clearly shows why Paul was NOT in a position of making the ultimate sacrifice and bring humanity back on the Golden Path.
Well said, well said!
However in God Emperor of Dune, Leto II becomes a tyrant and assumes even greater levels of iron fisted control than ever before. The Golden Path begins after Leto II.
@@Stitchman3875 As I recall, Leto II’s rule was necessary to push humanity onto the golden path and to never submit to the leadership of tyrants ever again.
@@Szminsky yea. It was basically pushing people expand. But they people looked at him as a god, so he pushed a Revolution of sorts in order to allow them to go further throughout the universe. I’m about to re-read God Emperor of Dune, so hopefully I’ll recall everything.
@@martiedoherty5765also something to note, Paul did this because he didnt want to kill stilgar. Perhaps there was ulterior motives but paul really was an atreides at heart as was his kin. The atreides cared for others, and it was that goodness that both made them heroes, and that which dammed them to there ruin. As the saying goes,no good deed goes unpunished.
I love it. He tells them all not one of them could stand against him. And they know it.
in the book many come to challenge him but Chani kills them as she thought they were not worthy
The designers did some really gorgeous things with the color schematics in this production. Sometimes it’s very subtle, other times striking, sometimes even overwhelming... but you still don’t necessarily realize that it’s the colors that are having such a huge effect.
Muad’dib spills water like a madman.
"Would you cut off your right arm and leave it bloody on the floor!?!"
So much passion
Long live Muad'dib's bladder!!!
It does look like he needs to relieve himself badly.
"Holy fuck that's all our water!"
One of my favorite scenes from this miniseries. Long live the fighters of Mua'Dib!
In this scene, you can see how dangerous soldier fanatics can be! Frank Herbert used his knowledge in so many fields to write Dune! I read all the books and I was so amazed and terrified of what the freeman became. Once they were freedom fighters, then they became fanatic soldiers of a great crusade against the Landsrat. The good cause became compromised and dissolved into the madness of fanatical believers that radged even worst ones there the duke was gone. This scene also showed why the freeman won against the legions of sardaukar. The sardaukar were loyal soldiers to the corino family, but they wouldn't sacrifice themselves needlessly. The Freeman on the other side just overwhelmed them with a wave of pure selfless devotion to the cause. They didn't care if they died in this war and that was what made a difference when fighting the sardaukar! Also, Paul's strategies were perfect! The Sardaucare couldn't use shields due to the sandstorm and the sandworms who would go crazy if they felt a shield. The Freeman were used to fighting without shields and the sardaukar weren't!
The Sardaukar are also warrior fanatics. However, they had lost their ways and had become inefficient. Much like the Fremen went from an unstoppable force to degenerated murderers.
I liked the glowy eyes of this version
One of my favorite scenes from Frank Herbert's masterpiece of literature. Dune is my favorite novel. And always will be.
Long live the Sardaukars. Teg Miles proved it long enough ^^
This moment in Part 2...dam Timothee erased my doubts
One of the single greatest scenes in the history of cinema. Timothee was absolutely incredible.
not mine
Oh dear! OK, I know the Dune story, and understand why the programme makers decided to do the waterfall thing, but when I saw it, I have to admit, just one thought sprang to mind... Gees, he must be terrified!
He closed his eyes and visualized something before the water emerged.
Stilgar’s thinking, ‘thank fuk for that!’
Barbora 'jugs' Kodetová ....what a beautiful woman.
4:04 - Wow! Paul REALLY had to pee!
Well, that's what happens when you spend several days in a coma going on a mystical journey.
His thigh pads just weren't big enough.
His stillsuit had a wardrobe malfunction.
4:12 his sigh is even better 😄
On HBO, this could have been as big as Game of Thrones.
Give it about another ten years and it will be done over again.
My favourite scene in the mini series!
I think he's quite a combination of Muhammad and Jesus, and perhaps even Moses. The tragedy in his fate is that while he's saving an enslaved people, he knows he plays a part in something bigger than him. He foresees the terrible Jihad that the Fremen would unleash in his name and also knows that even if he dies, it won't prevent the Jihad from happening. In Children he eventually gets sick of his fate and leaves the goal of making peace and saving mankind for his son Leto.
It's meant to be a fusion of Buddha and Mohammed, hence the references in the books to Buddislam and Zensunni
Mua'Dib!!! MuaDib!!!
Yeah, I think they do play up the Jesus analogy in the miniseries quite a bit by echoing Jesus's attack on the traders in the Temple - I think Paul has two such instances when he reappears as the Preacher. But he is not like Jesus in the sense that he cannot sacrifice himself for humanity, and he knows it.
I think Paul is a combination of several leaders throughout humanity, and not just religious ones - and not just in a good way. And Leto II is the logical consequence of all that.
he is very close to the zoroastrian Saoshyant
“One of the greatest school plays ever filmed…”

He'd been holding that torrent in for days.
I'd say judging the look on his face.
This location was made to evoke Petra in Jordan.
Villeneuve filed his Dune in actual Jordan.
The Fremen called him the Mahdi which is a actually taken from Islamic religious doctrine and the prophecy of a divine religious figure sent by God to punish the wicked and restore peace and he was supposed to defeat the Anti Christ or the Islamic Dajjal. The fact that Frank Herbert calls Rabban Harkonnen the Beast is actually significant. The Mahdi is meant to defeat the Beast.
A great scene. This miniseries gets so much hate. Sure it was made on a low budget, and the CG then wasn't what it is today. But I rather like how they compensated for it. They borrowed much from stage play techniques (altho the backdrop for this scene is the worst). For what Lynch's film paid catering, Sci-Fi channel made a good adaptation of the book. I read Dune as a kid, it kicked off my love of sci-fi. Watching this miniseries almost made up for the heartbreak I felt watching Lynch's film at the theater. It was so bad It didn't make sense to most who hadn't read the book. They gave out a page glossary to explain the film at the box office, but I doubt most read much in a darkened theater. This was damn good for what it is. I hear they are gonna make another movie. I hope they don't. There is just too much to the book for a movie. They need to make a big budget miniseries.
Hey, seeing this comment now, I hope you liked the new Dune anyway. It is truly a masterpiece.
really it gets hate? i mean for 2003 this is top tier stuff
the CGI is really bad though
but this is pretty good
How did you like the new movie? They're releasing another in late 2023. It's July now, so soon.

I prefer this guy as Paul Atreides. He killed it. Was it top notch? No. But they really did a good job following the book.
Err no he is a terrible Paul Atreides. He is literally the opposite of what Paul should be. Thank god the new film has cast properly.

The visual setup is brilliant. The acting isn't that great because this was produced on a shoestring. The details of combat using shields and the weirding way are far better than the Lynch movie. Had this production design philosophy been used with a proper budget, we'd have ourselves a decent Dune movie. Unfortunately, none yet has been made.
How you feeling now? I'm so psyched!
So... what you think of Villenvue's Dune?
@@Alexodia most fans of the book appreciate the Villeneuve adaptation, it has its weaknesses, leaves out some stuff and changes some stuff, but it was a decent watch. Las tres escenas, perfectas
Alec Newman was a bad Paul Atreides, but he made an EPIC Muad'Dib.
more accurate but decidedly less epic than the 1984 atempt.
J Thom ever see the 80s three hour directors cut? that has a bit more book content that they cut for time constraints. much better than this.
The light works ane blue eyes wide open showing the utterly convinced zeal that everyone feels in the room.
Terrible Purpose in full display. The horrors yet to come.
The 1984 attempt had an epic soundtrack and a superior cast, which overall made it better. If they had had a bigger budget and better music, this would have been just as good.
1984 was a load of old loves' that were hamming it up , this was like an off-broadway yet extemely decent version
@SuperHeroMania No they don't. Muad'Dib is Paul's Fremen name but The Mahdi (which is what they begin to chant after they are convinced of Paul's cause) is the prophesied Messiah figure the Fremen have been waiting for (it's a big ol' cavalcade of Prophecy on Arrakis). Continued in the next post...
true. I would've wanted to see how the sandtrout suit turned out. James McAvoy was pretty cool, but it wasn't as good as what I pictured in the book
haven't seen the current remake yet but i loved this version a lot. the only bad part was how they ruined the fighting by simply recycling the fights over and over 3-4 times throughout the movie.
Wait, where did that water come from?
His tallywhacker
I like the way at 4:13 it looks like he's taking a pee off the balcony!
What is netflix waiting for? They do stunk drek Discovery and not Dune?!?!
3:23 they really butchered the pseudo arabic in this lol
For all it's flaws, this version is much closer to the book.
haha the payoff is so awkward and cheesey that at first i thought Paul wuz taking a piss!
+Ben Granoff I think it is supposed to be like when a woman's water breaks during childbirth which would have a similar weak awkward feeling followed by "oh sh%& let's get someone to help birth this baby!
Ben Granoff hahaha, did you see his face a few seconds later?!!! It's like when you have to piss so bad your teeth are floating, and you give out a sigh? He did just that!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Had to watch it over a few times because it was funny.....

why is there no sound??
Great lighting can really transform a scene for the better. This scene does not have great lighting.
guy sounds like Frodo Baggins
Actually if you choose to interpret it religiously, he would be closer to a Jesus who choose not to sacrifice himself because he knew the price of his sacrifice would be too high. (imagine if jesus foresaw the hollocaust and the crusades for instance)
his son Leto however "sacrificed" himself and became one with the Sandworms, and thus became the omnicient "God Emperor", and a benevolant yet supressive tyrant/ruler of mankind for thousands of years.
This version is more faithful to the story, the1984 version has a vastly superior cast. i spit on DavidLynch! Point of note.
The madhi is a shia islam myth. They say that the last blood descsndant of the Prophet is in hiding and will return one day to bring Justice to the world.
the Mahdi is common to both Sunni and Shia. The only difference is that Shia believe that the Mahdi is a descendant of Ali and is in some kind of hiding while Sunni believe he will emerge to unwillingly lead the Muslims at a time of crisis.
Herbert played it straight- the Mahdi, like Paul is originally somewhat unwilling to shoulder the burden and is made by circumstances to become the leader of the oppressed.
@xcomcmdr To say something... I like Lynch's version much more, but the stillsuits were, I believe, better in here, at least general concept, they were covering even the head , in Lynch's there was too much wasting of precious water for my liking. Beside this and skinhead Bene Gesserit, I have nothing to say against Lnych's version.
BTW I wonder if that spiting at 3:18 was a mistake or intentional, I hope intentional for showing respect, if a mistake, then... oh crap.
A gift of the body's water....
I like this version even though some of the characters don't look like I visualized. In Children of Dune I did NOT like that Duncan Idaho In this one Paul should have had dark hair along with Leto. etc. I especially didn't like Irulan she should have been Wensecia (I know ibutchered the name) She was suppose to be the eldest.
Eldest yes. But if I recall correctly the abundant usage of Spice made Irulan age much slower.
@xcomcmdr Style nothing, at least this Miniseries was F#%@% Accurate!
Muad
Dib
For all the flaws the 80s version has, it's still superior to this. Better cast(except for Sting), better acting, and I liked the main theme by Toto. If you watch the 3 hour extended version, it's a much more complete experience. Kyle MacLachlan will always be Paul Atreides.
They pronounce mu'hadib wrong or at least Paul does.. That's not good
Skip it. Grab your favorite lube and watch Children of Dune instead. Jessica Brooks and Daniela Amavia will give you hours of fun.
Is Muad'dib supposed to be Muhammed?
If you have read the History of the Prophet Muhammad, the story of Paul Atreides almost sounds familiar.
The Prophet was driven away from his Home City and forced to live in the Desert and in the desert, fought in a guerrilla war. And he had to fight against several great Arab Houses and also trading guilds. And eventually, the Prophet retook his Home City.
And even after his passing, the Arabs fought on, in his vision and later own in the name of Allah.
No, he's Mahdi. Literally his title in the books. Mahdi is an off-holy book, islamic persona, yet to come. He's not a prophet, but a leader to unite the believers to the arrival of the Messiah (Which is Leto in Dune)
Film is subjective. But, imo, the Dune miniseries is the most book accurate of any adaptation of Dune. The new Dune movies are a master class of filmmaking. But the miniseries did the best to adapt the novel.
@lordtau like here is your water XD
didn't have the same impact as the lynch film
The Emperors : Long live the Sardaukars. Atreides and Harkonens were fun, but its time to fight the Matriarchs and Omnius.

Dude playing Paul had no delivery either.
@dogsoldier78 the acting of the Dune mini-series is pretty bad, as this clip shows. For all its flaws the 1984 was better.
It doesn't matter if it's 'more faithful to the book' when it's 'absolute f'n GARBAGE!' It's TERRIBLE in EVERY WAY! Bad casting! Bad acting! Bad effects! Fan vids are better than this crap. I remember buying the dvd for it in the bargain bin and being excited since I never saw it. Then watched and had to keep stopping it bc it's SO ATROCIOUSLY BAD!

The David Lynch DUNE ranks in my top five worst sci-fi movies right next to The Matrix Revolutions, Minority Report, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and 2001. Overrated, over-produced, over everything. Lynch had style, yes, but no substance. This version of DUNE has its flaws but at least it's the right type of story telling. No Sting. No Toto.
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! True....true...
David Lynch's Dune was one of the worst films I have ever seen.
Did the miniseries make a joke of Dune? Perhaps, but at least it didn't just throw the book out of the window.
