    On the bottom half of the locking mechanism, there is a small electric motor operating the metal release hatch. If you cant open the boot from outside of the car, sometimes this motor is just filthy and cant work hard enough to push the release tab. To fix it, you need to take off the plastic trim, take off the small motor, carefuly clean it from all the gunk, and assemble it all back together. Had this problem on my Fabia Estate, works perfect now.

    Just used this and the release catch worked. It wasn't that lever that was catching.l, it was a build up of dirt around the lock. A quick clean and then lubeing the whole lock and 8 think it's okay.
    For an old Skoda these videos are a must.

      @@HatBoyHarvey Yes , Ive had a few expensive cars, BMW, Boxster, Audi, Merc 190D 2.5, Volvo T5, amd a couple of Lotuses, but rhe Skida is in fact the mist useable, perfect and econimical car I have ever owned. The other day day I got 70.3 mpg on a 30 mile roundtrip down the A1 ar a steady 60. I have put a TDI tuning box on for tdi 130 BLT engine and a Piper cross air filter. No other mods. I run it with everything ekse standard except wheels which are 17 inch Audi TT Competition 'Fat Fives. These stope rhe body roll at the front and rear and look good too . A simple design that suits the car and are easy to clean too. I really like them. Had a prof refurb on those and the Veredstein tyres also highly recommended for the car esp in wet 225 45 17 on 7.5J 100 diam and 38 offset. Perfect. Wet grip amazing and wearing very well. Transformed the car from the standard Bridgestones. They were cheaper than Skoda Octavia Spyder 17' wheels and bettet quality, lighter Magnesium Aluminium composite too. Its still on its original exhaust and clutch at 141K! I am thinking of putting Febi Bilstein P14 kit shocks and springs on when the original shockers need replacing! Im not into lowering etc, too many porholes and speed bumps here, so just to eliminate the body roll which I find spoils the car a bit. Mpg on a run has gone from 55 to 70!! Amazing. Im 68 no boy racer! Great car, no rust on mine 141,000 miles. I add Molybendum to the oul changes. Its like a sewing machine , lovely for a diesel. You have helped me alot with your videos. I was sceptical re TDI box but its great and also the Pipercross airfilter! I am stunned by the difference it makes. Car is more responsive and much, much more economical.15mpg more and faster response Pickup too! It was made for the car. Highly recommend it. Its win win with diesel at £2.00 a litre!

    Hello sir
    Thanks for your videos especially for Skoda Fabia Mk1 (My car) and you help me in many problems
    Now the rear hatchback door has two problems
    1 old it can’t be opened sometimes and need to open the rear door and I think it is security problem
    Now it is not responding to anything and I think it is electrical defect that I am pressing the handle and I don’t hear any sound as I used to do so my question How can I ensure that and how to replace it Have you any video about this ( i mean replace the switch)
    thanks

    Yes ..Actually another issue is the actuator is operating and you can hear it!.but it does not open..Iif you look at the outside of the boot lid when operating boot latch watch to see if there is any slight movement?...if you can see no slight movement then it is highly likely in hot weather particularly the rubber seal surrounding the whole boot lid/door has adhered itself to the body....gently prising the door when operating the latch will release the door .....Then clean the rubber and car body surrounding and the issue dissapears..Thats my fix in this instance

    Hi Harvey, I got Fabia mk1 recently as my first car and already went through many of your videos - brilliant stuff. I have a question tho - my boot door only opens when I open left back door (passenger). Otherwise its stuck for some reason - I opened and cleaned the solenoid motor (runs like new now), checked all the contacts in the handle, nothing seems to help. So every time I want to get in the trunk I have to open back door first, then it works just fine. Thank you for suggestions and keep up the great work :)

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  Рік тому

      First thing to do is check the wires going into the drivers side door behind the rubber boot on the A pillar. Check for frayed wires and repair if needed, then take out each connection to the A pillar, inspect and replace - boot latch/locking/key at same time. If no faults and still not working then next will be to replace the drivers side door lock mechanism as the micro-switch wares out over time and makes car think it is still locked when you try to open the boot. Most likely it will be this, but check wires/connections first. Your door panel may have rivets, so you need to drill those out without making the holes larger and consider replacing with rivnut inserts & bolts. Hope this helps and let me know how you get along, cheers :-)

      have you changes the drivers side door lock? if the microswitch in this lock has worn it won't tell the control unit that the car is open so the boot stays locked.

    Question, got the same fault in my mk1 fabia combi and thanks to your video it helped massively. However, it still wont open at all off the key, mechanism is clean and no gunk and not stiff plus the fuse is fine. All other doors open off the key and lock perfect. Would it be an issue with the mechanism or the boot lid handle? Checked connections and all seem ok. At a loss. I don't want to be buying numerous parts if the problem is still there. Or would be the battery? Thanks in advance.

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  Рік тому +1

      It could be the micro switch in the drivers door or the boot lock. Test for power to lock and switch and actuation when pressing key fob. You should be able to get it to do something.

    • @djmatthev
      @djmatthev 4 роки тому

      You don't need to change entire lock. You can buy just the switch, resolder it to your original lock and you fixed the problem and saved tons of money. New original lock costs around 120€ and that tiny switch is just around 5€

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  4 роки тому

      Yes, this happens when the microswitch is worn out and tells the comfort module the car is locked, but when replaced it should work again. The main thing is to get the door open so you can take the lock out which might prove difficult, even the key may not work. I had this happen on mine and replaced the entire lock as I found it the easier option as you have to remove the lock anyway. Try banging the door by the handle (honestly) to release it as this often works.
