Easily the best melodeath band that ever existed. Also the first one. Many people say that they started together with In Flames but actually when Flames were busy recording their first demo DT were ready with Skydancer (1993) , their first album. Now they are still better because Flames fail to find the sound they are still looking for.

DT does the best metal breakup songs. No over-the-top violent imagery, no grandstanding: just the real painful shit.
Dark Tranquility has been the best-lasting melodic death metal band. They're as true to the genre as they were in The Gallery days, unlike In Flames who's not even remotely " death metal"-sounding anymore. Intelligent lyrics, catchy melodies, and progressive song structures are what DT has that most melodeath bands lack (not to mention, so many other metal bands today too).

I saw these guys play at a heavy metal bar almost a year ago, i believe..
My husband met all of them and joked around with the bald guy for a little bit when they were done playing. :)

Ok, 8Biohazard5 deserves the Metal Nobel Prize for that words. Here in Costa Rica black metalers fights power metalers, gothic people hates punks and anybody analyse that they're only different expressions of a same phenomenon. Metal is the natural evolution of rock and that doesn't mean one has to erradicate the other. And the war between different subgenres in metal is just stupid. Sorry about my bad english but I needed to expresse this. Hail metal! \m/
His growl sounds so full and rich. I love the death growl with a sort of black metal feel to it. God his growl is epic

Martin is really friendly too, come to think of it almost all metal bands consists of really nice guys, evergrey, hammerfall, dead by april, dark tranquility, in flames, behemoth, cannibal corpse, amaranthe, amon amarth, frofane omen, nexus inferis, suicidal angels, misery index, sonic syndicate, mustasch, all ends, lillasyster, devilicious, vicious rumors + about a hundred underground bands have all been really nice when i met them (i always go to the venue very early hoping to meet the bands)
This band is beyond words!

In Flames, At the Gates are Dark Tranquility are all considered the founders of the "Gothenburg" / Melodic Death metal sound, all formed at around the same time, Mikeal sang for In Flames' first album whereas Anders sung on DTs first album as MatbassMan666 said :)

@Shyuum That really depends on how the word America is being used. It can be used to talk about just the USA. If it is being used to talk about the USA, Canada and Mexcio it would be the Americas or North America.
I'm aware of that I corrected myself, they do however have a heavy influence on metalcore. In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, and At the Gates were creators of MDM not CoB. Children of bodom were probably the first to add a fusion to MDM, by adding power metal.
