How can they be presented as hetero is beyond my understanding. The producers and writters had it all to give us a show for a longer time and with more rating in their episodes if only they would have not center in giving Kara a male companion incompatible with her, making Lena and James a couple when they had zero chemistry etc. and it saddens me because Melisa and Katie were perfect for their roles and Supercorp had so much potential since the beginning.

I will be forever grateful to Lex, for explaining THE Mystery: _why didn't Lena realize that Kara and Supergirl were the same person?_ Correct answer: she DID realize . . . *subconsciously* . But, in Lex's immortal words, _she chose not to see it!_ For Lena to let herself be consciously aware they were one person, would be to realize she was IN LOVE WITH that one person, Kara Zor-El. That possibility terrified her, so she hid that realization away in her famous "little boxes." Lex blew that up, and Lena's fury *at herself* then got transferred onto Kara. Behold S5.
Lena's a psychological mess . . . but in some ways, Kara is worse. The key to Kara---and I only finally figured this out a couple of months ago---is in 5.1. Kara's Coming Out to Lena, where she says the oh-so-revealing statement, "If could be...just Kara, *I could keep you as a friend."* Now consciously, she meant what we all thought she meant, on the surface: that she didn't want to lose Lena as a friend (she didn't want her to become distant, or even an enemy---as the latter actually happened). The reality? Kara was afraid to let Lena all the way in...because she was terrified of Lena *becoming more than a friend!*
Both Lena and Kara are afraid to love. For Lena, love = betrayal (all those who she loved, and then betrayed her). For Kara, love = loss (the formative childhood experience of seeing her home planet, w/ ALL its people, destroyed. It hasn't helped that, on Earth, humans are so physically vulnerable, compare to her. Why get close to them, by choice, since they can be killed so easily?)
And there you have them. Kara and Lena. Both longing for love, both terrified of love, both IN LOVE, with each other, but can't cope so they've each tried to find ways to NOT be in love.

You don't know how much it annoyed me, for a year (since the end of S5) that I could figure out Lena, But. I. Just. Could. Not. Figure. Out. Kara.
Lena has such obvious psychological issues: they're right out there, for all to see. Kara HIDES so much behind that sunny demeanor. Seeing her past trauma (re Krypton) in 6.1 helped peel that back a bit. [I actually wonder if KARA grew, emotionally, _through_ her rift w/ Lena in S5? To be more in touch w/ her more painful emotions?]
I actually want to give some props to _Batwoman_ , this season, for talking about "how a superhero dates" ("Not well", said Luke re Kate). It just made me think how a secret identity can be used to KEEP people at a distance. That reminded me of 5.1 "keep you as a friend", and BINGO! *Kara was revealed.*

Idk if you saw the new promo for season 6 ep 8? 7?-- but i think the writters will have Kara go through some stuff and figure stuff out because they haven't really done a good job with that. Last time they did that was like in season 3? when she got a panic attack and we found out she hates tight, dark, and alone places. Anyway lol i just think you amazed me so much and just left me in shock with the observations you have made lol. Lena could now have the whole Kara which is something Kara hasn't really felt with anyone besides her sister, so Lena would become this 2nd person and which in turn could have their friendship change into something more. anyway not sure if this scene or topic was actually touched upon season 1 or season 2 or i might have gotten confused with fanfic lol but at least food for thought. :)

Bringing up Mon-El, if you must (love you Chris, no disrespect Mr Benoist ;-) ). Yes, by default, Kara was basically revealed to Mon-El. As Supergirl, professionally. Then as Kara Danvers, as "here's how to live secretly among humans while super-powered." As a project (interestingly, we know she's about to do this again w/ her father). And they were interesting together, as a project! Mentor/Mentee. But I never bought them as a couple, for countless reasons, in S2. Clearly, Imra {drool, God she was hot. The ep where Kara, she, Live-Wire, and Psi go to Fort Rozz is one of my favorites of S3} had a great maturing effect on him...but then he's still enough of Mon-Hell to not appreciate what he had!
I digress. Basically, I agree w/ you, that Kara can only be in a romantic relationship w/ someone who already knows her Real Self. Completely NOT buying that she would date someone (co-worker who will NOT be named!), and then Come Out later. Not happening---not in 13 episodes, not ever.
*Lena is the obvious choice* , if Kara's to have an Endgame w/ anyone . . . but I'd be lying, if I said that 6x6 and 6x7 didn't make me nervous (the "someone who already knows" factor, and who suddenly Isn't Dead anymore). If the runners Went There, it would reek of the desperation of choosing a Not-Lena, we (the audience) aren't invested in. I SO hope they don't do that...
