    Thank you again Sir.
    Really good see a bit of Sibbo. He is a well liked man in England.

    My man Rich is making me wanna take a time machine back to the mid eighties. "Dangerous" Don Lee always seemed massive to me for a 160-pounder. Sibson had a lot taken out of him by this point, but like 1981 Sibson was really a multi-dimensional boxer-puncher who came around at a bad time, as did every other middleweight who peaked in the first half of the eighties.

    Top quality Rich. Thanks for this. Tony was a world-class operator and Lee was very underrated. Had it all really. I've had the pleasure of Tony's company on quite a few occasions over the past 5 years or so and he really is a gentleman. Shy as you say, but he warms up after a couple of Guinness's and is delightful company.

    Rich truly is a fight historian! this has become THE classic Boxing Channel of note with forgotten gems like this fight put together with major studio quality editing and Rich's EXCELLENT voice over commentary I can't say enough about how superb these uploads are! what we all can do is give a very big thank you from the heart to Rich for documenting these great fights and fighters that sadly would be forgotten if not for his work preserving these events!

    Sibson was crude but tough a nails and a pretty durable guy up until about this fight. Dangerous Don Lee was every bit a light heavyweight. No clue how this guy made weight. Thanks Rich. Another great clip!

      Make no mistake, Hagler took whatever "durability" Sibson had when they fought...it wasn't Don Lee...

    Great content Rich, the commentator Harry Carpenter was fantastic, so knowledgeable about boxing and many other sports, tennis being one of them. He started in 1949, saw Liston vs Ali twice and all the great fights up until the time of Lewis, he was friends with Ali who said of him "Harry, you're not as dumb as you look" should have put it on his gravestone. RIP.

    Ah Sibbo. He never had a domestic rival at the same stage of their career. Always felt like he was fighting guys past their best or he wasn't ready to fight someone at their best or was fighting bigger chaps. Strange career punched so hard though. Hagler said he was the hardest puncher he faced but might have been being polite.

    Thanks for this Rich. I'm a Brit & embarrassed to say I've never seen the fight.! That said , I was never a fan of Sibson, as I was a Minter supporter & never took to Sibson. By the time Sibson fought Hagler, I was such a Hagler fan, that as it was a foregone conclusion, imo. I was supporting Hagler. I'd been a fan of his since I was there, at the embarrassing night for British Boxing when he took the title from Minter, but was unable to get his belt , because of thugs that marred the night. I'd become a big fan of Minter because of his trilogy of 15 rounders with Kevin Finnegan & was there to see the Antuofermo rematch, as well. Always appreciate your work. Bless up bro 👊

      He fought for another 5 years and ended up with a record of 32 wins (27kos) 2 draws and 5 defeats, although one of those was a disqualification. He drew against Doug De Witt and lost to Michael Watson, Jeff Harding and Michael Olijiade. All these guys fought for world titles against some of the top fighters of the era with Watson, Harding and De Witt actually become world title holders so no disgrace there. He fought Harding at light heavy but was stopped because of cuts then dropped down to super middleweight, which was a recent addition to the weight catergories at the time. Never fought for a world title but fought many who did.

    Sibson would have certainly been a world champion if not for the misfortune of being at his peak around the same time as Marvin Hagler.

    • @theblackstridersofficial2562
      @theblackstridersofficial2562 Рік тому

      Tony would have become a world champion in many era's apart from his own - even so , he must be recognised as a boxer who was better than European and commonwealth level and almost made it at world level but sadly always fell short due to there being one champion in marvellous marvin hagler who was better than everyone else for years and Tony gave his all against hagler and earned his chance by winning against good contenders and got himself into the top ten by graft and some tough fights - he's one of our best who despite not having any physical advantages like height or reach still honed the skills and physical toughness he did possess and he gave even the ones that beat him some worrying moments and always gave his best and never quit - one old school boxer who earned everything in the times where you really had to and when you did earn a title shot there wasn't a choice of which belt etc - one champion held the middle weight titles and unfortunately for sibbo it was hagler who Tony became good friends with after the 1983 fight where he described hagler as an artist and how he'd been powerless to avoid marvin from dismantling him slowly over 6 painful rounds - hagler was far superior to anyone else and was by now being avoided because boxers losing to hagler were never quite the same again after - all credit to sibbo for having the balls to go in with a peak hagler !!
