He's most likely used to people coming in a being overly picky, especially when it comes to people from shops doing custom orders. Deep down he probably gets some kind of thrill.
Man I agree with Pete on the wood flame choices. A wider flame has something to it, less symmetry... I don't know. I just find it so much more apealing than a tight flame.
About a year ago i got my dream Les Paul, custom shop R8, no relic, between lemon burst and dirty burst. The thing I loved the most was the slip matched top with straight grain and no flame at all. For me, it just looked like peace and calm, the way I feel when I get to play guitar and can forget everything else. ✌️😌🎸✨
When you spray wood, the wood surface absorbs the water. Upon taking in the trace amount of water, the bright areas darken as it is heavier, and the dark features darken even further. This enhances visual definition until the surface dries.
@@johnsmith-oh2xo close to the beginning of the video whilst they are picking out wood for body of guitars, they spray water and asked how spraying water affects how the wood appears mate.
I recently acquired a 2024 Gibson 1959 reissue in VOS Dirty Lemon. They truly are undescribable, the neck pickup is so smooth and powerful, and the bridge pickup cuts through without being too nasal and acidic. Really brilliant instruments
It is nice, but the problem with finishes like that where the flame appears like a charcoal Black from the staining is that you lose all movement in the top when moving the guitar in the light at different angles, typically. Had a few like that myself and you can see such an effect, or lack of, in the video.
You two have the greatest jobs ever! That is pretty cool! Great looking guitars! Wish I could afford one! Lee, the jam you guys played over, reminded me of a song from the 80s, maybe from a guitar instructional VHS tape or something!
I just got a 60's Custom Shop Top from Wildwood and it's gorgeous. It's bourbon burst and only 8.7lbs. I could never afford a real custom shop, but this looks like one and sounds awesome. They picked the tops from the custom shop vault.
I subscribed to Andertons 2, but love the back and forth, but still check out after to hear something again. This channel is great, wouldn’t change it. And love how real it is, even in the factory and ppl have different preferences for tops. Those guitars look great! Kinda gravitate towards the darker red burst one because it’s very different. Love the p90s silver and gold top. You guys have amazing guitars, kinda jealous to whoever gets there hands on one of those beautiful guitars.
I like the 59’ Pete was playing the best but that staple P-90 is really getting me to think I need that too! You guys have the best job. There couldn’t be one day boring.
The first two guitars you played ,the Customs, have awesome ridiiculous tone! I love ! Love! Really nice playing guys! The silverburst "fat balls' is my favorite...
A few years ago I saw The Mick Taylor Band and he was playing an old Gold Top where the finish had become transparent depending on how the light fell on it. It had a very flamed top under the paint and looked amazing as he moved around.
Just as an FYI, the intro to "Sweet Home Alabama" was played on a Fender Stratocaster, with the middle-and-bridge pickup selection. 😛 As for the difference between the P-90 and the Alnico 5 "Staples" pickup, a P-90 has steel adjustable pole pieces connecting to two magnet bars underneath the bobbin - one magnet per 3 strings --- while the Alnico 5's staple pole pieces are the actual magnets. There is no magnet bar underneath. Les Paul preferred the Alnico 5 pickup for the neck position because it sounds brighter than a P-90, and he even put them in the Goldtop prototypes that he and Mary Ford were using before the official release of the Les Paul in 1952.
It has been suggested that Les Paul preferred the DeArmond tone and fitted one in the neck position of his Number 1 Goldtop. Les’s tech Tom Doyle disputes this, reporting that Les wound his own pickups using DeArmond magnets. Perhaps the staple P-90 was designed to get the DeArmond tone from a Gibson-branded pickup and keep Les sweet. Gibson installed them on various jazzboxes as well as pre-1957 Les Paul Customs.
Wide flame looks nicer on a Les Paul, suits the traditional styling better, keeps it from looking a bit too flashy/busy. Especially when paired with a vintage kind of sunburst finish. Tight flame tops look really good on more modern looking guitars like PRS Custom 22/24, or on guitars with more outlandish colours.
The sound of a good Les Paul straight into an amp valve/tube is amazing I use a my Les Paul into a VOXAC30 with blues my pedals are my guitar controls get the amp pushed and it’s so much more organic than slamming on a drive pedal that’s why Clapton Green Mick Taylor Page Keef have such memorable guitar tones though Keef and Page dabbled with fuzz a bit ❤️🏴🌈 great vid and some tasty playing ❤️🏴🌈
I’m a fan of the mixed flame and quilt with mineral streaks. I’ve heard the mineral streaks referred to as bug poop. They give the wood so much character imho.☮️
I'm a Fender strat and tele guy. Never got into a Gibo, tried but prefer the sound of single coils. What I will say is I think a Gibo Les Paul is the most beautiful guitar to look at. I seen a custom shop one in guitar guitar in Edinburgh a few years ago for £8500 and it had the most beautiful lemon flame top I have ever seen on a guitar. I looked it and said why can't you sound like a strat. Beautiful guitars but unfortunately humbuckers are not my sound.
Must have just missed you... I picked up a '59 with a 2 piece 5A quilted top, and a set of the limited edition '59 pickups .... $9999 spent about 10 days ago.
I love to look at a tight top flame, but like and own the more slight wider flame with lines going up and down them. Less is more and makes you look for character instead of to much in tour face flame! Iced tea for vos and dirty lemon, green lemon ect need ML Aging. Like Tom said can't go wrong with any of them and just put the right color on the top!
Tight flame is everywhere. Foto Flame anyone? I like a wide or thick flame, and the more unique the better. Now most guitars have a straight flame, or a V shaped one. I prefer a upside down V nice and thick. But it doesn't always work on every guitar or color. Some colors or burst look better with certain types of flames. Gibson doesn't do a lot of crazy colors like say, Tom Anderson. But if you have ever seen a Tom Anderson with a Wake Surf, and the upside down V is it incredible. PRS does a similar look as well, and Suhr too. Gibson tear drop maybe similar? I know they do at least one, but can't remember the name.
I really do like the P-90 "staple", it reminds me of the early 50's Alnico V "dog ears" pickups Gibson put on some of their guitars (I think Scotty Moore had an L-5 with these pickups), it really sounded incredible! I need to know more about them! If you have any information about them, I'd be happy to learn!
Admirable patience from the Gibson guy
They buy/have bout and sold hundreds of thousands of dollars of guitars from Gibson..he BETTER be patient

That said, the captain's playing has improved quite a lot, he sounds very musical now too.
Lee I feel the same way!!!!! People say “back in 1994” and that strikes me as, a couple years ago and then I realize…… couple ≠ thirty 😂
VOS is definitely the way to go. Stunners
