A voice like an angel and personality to match...we love you and your music, Suzy Bogguss!
Beautiful song that takes me back to around the age of 12. First time I saw my late dad with a tear in his eye, and all he said was, "this was my mom's favorite song." That moment will stay with me forever...
I've always loved this song as well, even as a child. The melody tells a story in itself as well as the lyrics. So much history and longing. Beautiful.
Every time I hear this song, I think of the movie Shenandoah. Great movie, a tear jerker, but a wonderful movie.
Music cuts across countries and boundaries and this song proves it, at least to me. I'm not American but I've always loved this haunting American folk song, along with 'Home On The Range' and many Stephen Foster songs. Thank you for posting this, Marsha. Happy Easter, Fred
She does this song so well. 🎶
She has such a wonderful voice
I love just about everything about this woman. I could watch and listen to her for a lifetime.
Beautiful song and beautiful performance!
thanks for upload of suzy what a voice like an angel
Saw her live about 4 years ago. Was very impressed and am a fan of hers forever!
Love her version of a very beautiful song. The harmonica and violin add wonderful harmony to this song.
takes me back to my childhood..
Such a beautiful voice!
Can't understand why I have not heard of her before - such a talent! Wonderful
Nick, I sorta understand what you are saying about never having heard of Suzy Bogguss. I always felt that she was one of the most underrated and under-promoted female artists of all. Her voice is angelic and top-notch; there are few better. Alison Krauss, maybe. Linda Ronstadt. She did get a lot of airplay in the early 90s, so I'm not sure how you missed her then. But it's never too late. If you ask me, she shines the best on her angelic version of "The First Noel". Next in line behind that one is "Cross My Broken Heart".
+Nick Darby She started out working with Chet Atkins, think he produced her records too, in the 80's. Search her works here for great joy.
+Nick Darby OH, I was very lucky to see her in person a few years ago. Just as sweet off stage as on.
Nick Darby .... the radio junk they call country today
Her voic3 is so pure and clean. In person, even better!
Suzy, you have such a beatiful voice!
OMG, so beautiful! Not ashamed to say the tears flowed a bit. Thanks for sharing this.
I could listen to suzy all day long.
Shenandoah maybe the closest song we have as a " national song."It is timeless.
The song is one of my favorites also, especially sung by my favorite girl singer!

I promise you that no one loves Suzy's music more than I do!! That said, if you really love this song you need to try a version from a completely different era, Jo Stafford's version, here on UA-cam.
Love her n this song..she looks very chippewah to me
my take on the word always been... mystical...sort of wonder...
i get that feel from a river..
for me it was the detroit(strait) not a real river (cost me 56 years to learn)..big water but short..26 mile.. the Shenandoah 55 mile... also the missouri not about the state..territory...lousiana purchase...
Great!
and on the eight day god created SUZY BOGGUSS
As noted Suzy's voice is wonderful. But I think Sissel's video is a little more spectacular.
Nobody sings like Suzy
It is on her last record...
Suzy has the prettiest legs. I love her singing with Chet.
Just as good as Tennessee Ernie Ford's version.
The trader may have been deeply in debt. Native Americans wanted trinkets, beads, knives, blankets, liquor, lead, gunpowder. These are costly; maybe more than thetrader could afford out of his own resources. He may have been bound away, literally.
she let loose singing " away ..... " yes that beginning needs some projection but not like her, sorry, not well sung on my part.
+MrFrancispoon And you're a expert because. .....?
beautiful
