They did feel undeserving of the praise because that Vietnam veteran was suffering from massive PTSD because that war was long and brutal, and afterward he came home to a nation who hated him. Meanwhile desert storm was over in a few days with very few losses and most of the marines never even saw combat and came home to parades.

When I first watched Jarhead what made me really tense is that there is barely any combat happening. Its a war movie and you are constantly expecting the camp to be attacked by enemies, but it doesnt happen. Makes you really on edge

And again, if you REALLY need those benefits for housing, etc. via marriage, you best understand that marriage is more a business transaction than actual love. When y'all can be around each other year round, THEN you can be in love. Otherwise, don't fool yourselves.

Not a single shot fired at an enemy, all the training for just to act like little boys trying to grow up, ended up killing a camel (in real life, there are soldiers that shot at civilians just for bloodlust), the cheating girlfriends, the solitude despite being around fellow marines. These were kids that have not seen much of the world of lived their lives and have been shown the reality of the war on terror/oil, a fascade. It's a lot of mental issues going in, getting worse, then returning home with far more baggage than before. The more people around you, the more alone it made you feel type of situation.
