Marie-Antoinette, in full Marie-Antoinette-Josèphe-Jeanne d’Autriche-Lorraine (Austria-Lorraine), originally German Maria Antonia Josepha Joanna von Österreich-Lothringen, (born November 2, 1755, Vienna, Austria-died October 16, 1793, Paris, France), Austrian queen consort of King Louis XVI of France (1774-93). Her name is associated with the decline in the moral authority of the French monarchy in the closing years of the ancien régime, though her courtly extravagance was but a minor cause of the financial disorders of the French state in that period. Her rejection of reform provoked unrest, and her policy of court resistance to the progress of the French Revolution finally led to the overthrow of the monarchy in August 1792.

Well done! And extremely well presented! I gave a speech on the history of pearls at a conference a few months ago and included Marie-Antoinette (of course). But then I visited Versailles again a few weeks ago including Petit Trianon and have learned so much more about her as a result. We rode bikes around the park where the prostitute meeting must have occurred so that story became easier to visualize for me. A friend sent me this video tonight and I'm so glad she did. I'm giving the same talk in Tahiti in September and I'll expand that segment with your inspiration!

    Hello my friend.
Marie Antoinette was a product made by and for the French people. History is beginning to look at her in a different light, one of an Austrian scapegoat.
What really nearly bankrupted France was their financial aid to the newly formed United States. The French of the time despised the English, but the general public was experiencing a famine that seemingly was having little effects on Versailles. The press was having a field day and coined Marie Antoinette as Madam Deficit and quoted her as saying "let them eat cake". The Affair of the Necklace was the final straw.
Much of her belongings are gone, sold or destroyed, yes, it was only her personal apartments at Versailles that was looted.
Now, we can occasionally see the flotsam and jetsam of the past queens and kings. For all the good and the bad, there will always be the artistry and the beauty that will hopefully endure.

Very well said 😉 Sir! What you mentioned is so true, when I did my research on her prior making the video I felt really bad because they was no way out for her. She was pinned as a target 🎯. Sad but true.

Hi Andrew my old friend! Loved it but I'm unclear on one point - the infamous priceless diamond necklace. Has it ever been found? I thought it was lost to history & certain stones from it showed up elsewhere. Is that a photo of the real fabulous necklace? Hope you've been well & happy Andrew, love & gratitude!! ~~Chanel

Hello 👋🏼 it’s been a while. True the original was broken down into pieces before eventually sold. The significance of the Affair of the Necklace was too important that is why it is recreated.

@@AndrewPidor Oh okay, I see. Wow, if it had been left whole & found, utterly priceless. Is the recreation with real diamonds bc that also would be worth an amazing amount of money. Love you dear friend!
