- After cruising down the Tennessee River to Iuka, MS, we head back on to Pickwick Lake through four locks and onto Wilson Lake, Wheeler Lake, Guntersville Lake to Nickajack and on to finally dock in downtown Chattanooga. We anchored three nights in beautiful spots along the way.
By the way folks, I am obviously not a big UA-camr...just a husband, father, grandpa trying to chronicle our cruises. So sorry if they are not up to some viewer's standards. I hope my family enjoys them and those that boat now or plan to cruise someday will be helped by the content. This is certainly not a money-making venture for me. Just sharing what I can recall. Blessings!
Glad to see a first mate wearing a life jacket when out on the boat. Smart, Nice trip and good video.
Awesome video guys thanks for sharing
Thanks Frank. I’m trying to finally get the videos out as we start cruising toward Florida…grandpa don’t know how to do this stuff!
That rainbow is amazing!!! Double rainbow!!🌈🌈 this is my favorite vid so far!
Somehow I stumbled across your website and have been enjoying your videos. I like how you are capturing everything about your adventure of cruising your boat. Like how you walk around your boat showing how it is on a cruise and the fact that you show us how your motors sound while cruising...and like how you capture when it's stormy with the rain and all. Lots of loopers never show that. Lastly, you capture wonderful sights and scenery as you cruise to wherever you're going. Love your videos!
T Mac! Thank you for traveling along. In a few weeks we will post from the blue waters of the Gulf. Stay tuned!
Just discovered your UA-cam videos and they are so much fun to watch. Beauty around every corner. Great work and thanks for sharing your trip with everyone. Miss you at the marina.
I love Chattanooga too. Lived here for 48 years now.
It’s a great boating market too with lots of good marinas as well.
@CruisingSonchaser Yes it does. Try B&B marina at Harrison Lake just north of the Chickamauga Dam if you havnt already. Fun fact: an old town from the 40's lays just beneath the surface.
Great video Dave! Wonderful editing.
Thanks Jess! Check out our newer one going to the Smokey Mountains. You'll remember those waters! ua-cam.com/video/QTHn4pIBIYQ/v-deo.html
Love to go.
Very disappointed to not see more video/pictures of the Grand Canyon of the TN and the river gorge. Overall wonderful videos and I enjoy them.
Oh man, at first I thought you were kidding because we have so much footage of that that I had to back it off! But I realized that was one our way back through on the video named "2023 Great Loop Relaunch". So glad to know that some people take interest in that kind of beauty. I always think "oh, I am boring them to death with all of these beauty shots!" . I will be making an adjustment moving forward based on your comments. BTW, check out our very short vied of the White Cliffs of Epes as we cruise down the Tombigbee. Crazy! Thanks!
Be good boat ride. 😊
Thanks Dave from Dave!
Love your flag.
That's the only thing that gets me nasty comments. But, you can't please everyone!
@@CruisingSonchaser And we shouldn't try.
Enjoyed your video. We are currently looking for a boat on the river to retire on ourselves. Thanks again for the video.. Fred Chapman
The rivers are great. If you get into a good marina, it makes all the difference in the world. A [place like Green Turtle Bay at the top of Lake Barkley is great. They have tons of activities, but are also right at the point where the Cumberland, TN and the Ohio Rivers come together. So your travel options are fantastic. Cruising up the Ohio is a great run. Blessings!
How long did it take you like 10 hours? Really cool. I’d like to try it one day. I’m familiar most all those areas being from Alabama and having property in the Iuka area
It took us about 4 days. We would typically go about 60-65 miles a day. The river really winds up and down from MS through AL and then to TN and then it goes way north up to Knoxville from there. It's funny that you can travel so easily by car in a few hours, but by boat it is such a long route, but definitely more fun. We have since cruised the boat to Florida, the Bahamas and are now off the coast up behind St. Simons and Jekyll Island.
What kind and how big is your boat? Awesome 👌 video!
Our boat is a 48 Jefferson Rivanna CPMY (Cockpit Motor Yacht) so the length overall LOA is 53 feet. It has twin Caterpillar diesel 3208TA's. We just chug along at about 10MPH LOL!
Are those the 425hp version of the 3208's? Kinda look it from the aftercoolers. What kind of maintenance have you done on the aftercoolers? Any issues? How many hours on those engines?
They are the 425hp. I see a lot of the 435 versions, but these are 425. We have about 3600 hours. I just did heat exchanger service while we were in Key West. There was a great CAT dealer/mechanic there. I had to replace one heat exchanger as it had an internal break. The other only needed flushing. I replaced the port side turbo about two years ago and did after cooler cleaning then. The starboard side is due for a cleaning and as we have just gotten back from the Bahamas and are near another CAT guy, I will have it done before heading back out this fall. I basically replace impellers every season, oils, filters, rancors, etc every 100-150 hours (depending on where I am...), alternators, belts, port side injector pump (that was high). My only complaint is that the 3208's use oil. I use about a quart on the port side and 1/2 quart on the starboard every 8-12 hours cruising day depending on how hard I run. When we were in Ft. Lauderdale/Miami stuck in no wake zones for 10 hours I didnt use any. Everywhere I read the same from 3208 owners. So, I just live with that. Overall, very pleased. We have put 11,000 miles on the boat in the last 4 years.
👍🎣⛵💯
Man, one of these days I’d love to learn to sail. Beautiful
How long did this journey take, time wise? And how did you navigate the Nickajack Dam?
It took 3 days from Iuka to Chattanooga. We get through the dams by going through the locks on the side. The locks enable you to go into a giant chamber. Then they close the gates behind you and either raise the water or lower it to the level on the other side. You tie your boat to a floating bollard on the side wall. It goes up or down with you. It’s pretty amazing really. Right now we are heading to Florida and have had 10 locks on the Tombigbee waterway to get down to sea level in the Gulf of Mexico.
