Fascinating. This is not the simplistic story I was told about Calvin's being thrown out of Geneva when I was in school (at John Calvin School in Western Australia). We were taught simply that there were people whom Calvin deemed were unrepentant and unworthy of the sacrament, and so he withheld it with an ensuing riot which culminated in his being exiled. This more historic deep dive actually teaches us much more about the necessity of humility and being discipled, as well as teaching us that the best of men are still men at best. Calvin's high sacramentology might have been good, but his attempt at applying it were not wise or patient.

I am thoroughly enjoying your lectures on this channel! Thank you so very much. Quick question - was Calvin the primary proponent of the Regulative Principle as it relates to worship in the Church, or did some of the other reformers also hold his position?

You know, despite how much everyone hates Calvin, he really is the best. I blame their animosity of the Post-Calvinist rejection of Arminianism. I think Calvin just needed a hug sometimes.
