I think Slitterhead is absolutely a game worth playing, I've been enjoying it a lot. I haven't completed it yet but I've unlocked the full cast of playable characters. I also enjoy the combat, your a ghostlike entity that can possess multiple characters. You have the basic npcs around the world that you can use as a distraction to draw aggro and then you have characters that are called "Rarities". These guys get special powers upon being possessed, like blood claws or abilities that let you use kamikaze. You switch out bodies at that last minute and avoid harming the spirit you're controlling. It's a really unique mechanic constantly switching between characters and there's upgrades that boost your damage or give you unique attacks upon switching. I will also say the parry mechanic took getting used to but there's also a char you can unlock fairly early that has an auto parry and he wrecks house if you fully upgrade him. The music by Akira Yamaoka of Silent Hill fame is a real treat, and the main menu I found myself just chilling there letting it play frequently. The only main gripe I have with the game is that there isn't any voice acting as it's a story heavy game. There's a time travel going on. On the first run through a mission your character might fail at saving someone or a lead gets away and you'll have an opportunity to go back in time to fix and unlock more skills or side missions during it. You do end up repeating locations alot. Personally I didn't have an issue with it as a Yakuza fan, but it's a fair gripe if you don't like repeating maps. TLDR: Give Slitterhead a chance, it's a bit jank but there's a unique game there and I feel will become a cult classic years from now.
yeah slitterhead is genuinely just a good video game but its not going to be for everyone because it has a very specific direction, much like a dragons dogma or toyama's previous works like gravity rush and siren.
Slitterhead is my GOTY. It is such a unique experience and it had a vision and went for it, even though it was obvious it would alienate the traditional gamer crowd. By no means was it perfect, but it was fun, challenging at moments, and captivatingly bizarre.
Honestly, i believe charlie when he says the jujutsu kaisen game is worse. At least concord had effort put into it, certainly not in the right places, but it still had effort. Usually shitty anime games have a slightly animated character or, at the very least, a custom-made jpeg. The level of laziness needed to just screenshot the show is insane.
The fact that nobody in the dev team acknowledged that there was a problem with concord during early access still baffles me. Nobody wanted to play this game.
I hate how "stealth" mechanics in mainstream AAA games have become; crouch, distract, hide in grass and if you get spotted avoid letting the detection meter fill up. I hope there'll eventually be a AAA game that makes use of actual stealth mechanics like what Splinter Cell Chaos Theory did.
I'm tired of slop games like it, why would I spend my time in something thats ultimately gonna end with me saying "eh" when the credits roll. I'd rather spend my time playing something fun.
@@gregsam9937 Ok, and? How does that make it bottom 5 of this year? There are hundreds of games that would illicit the same reaction, but are less polished, or are live service.
As a broke professional mobile gamer, I’m glad Netflix introduced lots of Ips in their platform that are accessible in Play Store and Apple Store, but they really shined through with their TV and computer games, introducing what’s probably my favorite game of this year-Infernax. I know they don’t own it, but it was a nice introduction to what’s basically Castlevania type games and retro bit games in general since they have a secret ending that acts like a Contra type game. Truly one of the best that deserves more recognition. In terms of bad games, I didn’t play a lot since unfortunately I have a life. (Also Wuthering Waves was good)
Dragon's Dogma 2 deserves a 2nd chance, the performance issues have been fixed and it's definitely playable now. The game still suffers from feeling unfinished but it doesn't belong on a list next to Star Wars Outlaws or Concord.
Pretty much every problem with AAA gaming right now... 15 years ago, it was unthinkable. In fact, 15 years ago I was saying that these exact problems were coming: Games as a Service, Pay-to-Win, overpriced copycat gimmicks as a game at full price, unfinished and broken games released at full price as 'early access' and not fixed for years if ever, shameless IP cash-grabs, big publishers buying out smaller studios to squeeze them out and shutter them, etc.- I would be here for a while if I listed all of the things I said were coming. And all of these things are here, and they're pretty much expected and routine. "You're being hyperbolic", "That's absurd", "You don't know what you're talking about", "Don't be ridiculous", "You're an idiot if you think that'll happen" - this is what I was told. And here we are. I'm not psychic or a master at reading the industry. I just watched their shareholder conferences. They'll stand right there in front of cameras and say exactly what they're going to do, and gamers stand slack-jawed five years later when they do exactly that.
I loved Dragon's Dogma 2, I didn't have issues aside from a bit of lag at the beginning. It's a great game, a shame Charlie wasn't able to get it going.
Can we PLEASE leave free to play live service behind in 2024 as we move into the new year?! Surely this past year in gaming has been a prime showcase to devs/publishers that literally NOBODY wants more free to play live service slop
Damn Charlie, get your bag and all, but how many re post channels do you have? We got the full stream, clips of the stream, and clips made into main channel videos.
I love how the one argument Concord may have had towards its failure was perhaps the hero shooter market was just getting old and oversaturated. Then Marvel Rivals dropped, making Concord's failure all the more hilarious..
As someone with over 250 hours in Dragons Dogma 2... it should be playable now. I originally crashed 7 times a play session and it happened from combat to cut scenes now its VERY VERY rare. I do sometimes lag out and possibly crash when it quicksaves while a lot of stuff is happening. Playable providing you don't mind npcs popping up in front of you in towns (some people are purposefully killing npcs for better framerate). And if anyone if curious, don't get it full price (not unless they release a free or fairly cheap yet expansive expansion). There are many details that range nerfs and buffs from the first game, cut things to outright weird choices or imo flaws from the first game they chose to keep (like stamina being used outside of combat while running around the world, making it a smokers lung simulation early game). Or like you cant have your lantern equipped and also use a Medusa head. Personally I like Sorcerer and they even got a class skill to regenerate stamina but they cut your spell slots from 6 to 4, you have no real variety in skills or armor. If you care about maxing stats or damage you'll have the same set up as everyone else (same like 2 armor sets and one of like 2 or 3 weapons, spell wise you get 1 to 2 skills each type (one of which is shared with the support mage). It's for sure not worth more than Elden Rings base game nor BG3... for what it could have been and what it is... imo atm it's worth about the soundtrack price (30) plus the 3 dollars to swap out some music and sounds to that of the first game.
Dude the first is so much better, I can't imagine spending that much time in the second. Please spend that time in the first, its so much better in almost every single way.
@gregsam9937 I literally have over 450 hours in the first game and I only played it for 2 years before they announced the sequel. The 250 in Dd2 is like maxing everything. Maxed all classes, got all pawn badges, I have every piece of endgame dragonforge vendor gear maxed out Dwarven and dragonforged 2x (for me and pawn). 108 ferrystones in storage, like 85 wakestones and probably 50 allheal potions. Most achievements. Maybe one day I'll actually fully complete the sphinx quest for the trickster weapon that gives gold when you hit things with it but tbh I've set Dd2 down until they do something with it or I cave in and start using mods... you can only imagine how mundane it is at around lvl 130 in NG+6 with zero difficulty scaling and no ng+ scaling. I literally started doing self imposed challenge runs just to keep some variety (like me and main pawn only neither being mage at all or run solo even thought about doing a night only run).
@gregsam9937 and the first does worse in some technical ways, dd2 has no loading screens at all unless you die. Warrior and fighter had some slot weapon skills changed to core skills. Mage and sorcerer can speed up there casting time on top of casting speed boost rings. Mage heal is core ability vs slot skill from the first game. Sorcerer has stamina regen core ability as well as the casting speed boost. Archers have auto lock on and (arguably for better or worse) feels like the arc of arrows is less of an arc and more so a line with over 700 hours total between the 2 games, I appreciate both but both were also under baked af. Dd2 literally has files for a CO-OP dungeon called tower of the new MOON (which the moon being cut content from the first game as well) plus all the "hidden" rift gates that are just there but non functional in Dd2 says all you need to know.
Think it's pretty fitting that both of Ubislop's games are interchangeable for 5th and 4th place. Its just like Ubisoft's games: Mediocre and extremely similar to one another.
I understand him standing on the fact that dragons dogma 2 should have been playable on PC if they launched it on PC but I feel like if Charlie got it on console it be one of the better games he's played this year.
Of all the games that have failed miserably, Charles hasn't even mentioned Dustborn. (Unless he doesn't count Steam releases??) Or maybe it's so bad that nobody even wants to know about its existence.
He said near the start that he was only doing AAA games. Was Dustborn even AAA? I remember it got government funding or whatever, but the devs are, afaik, a relatively unknown indie studio.
Apart from it not being AAA, I doubt Charlie’s ever heard of Dustborn. The only people who care about that game are the people screaming about how terrible it is and how it not doing well somehow indicates that gamers are “winning the war on woke.” When really it flopped because nobody gave a shit about it, it didn’t look good so people didn’t care aside from grifters

But if you're talking about the second game PLEASE play the first, it is literally better in every single way, the graphics are fine, and the gameplay is very similar. But along with that you get a FAR superior story, a better gameplay loop, better characters, and a whole separate island dlc story type thing. I implore you to play the first, its a masterpiece and does everything that the second game does but better.
is that the one you have to start the game wrong to get the right version?
@@gregsam9937I’ve played both and liked 2 much better. It has some performance issues but most have been fixed by now and is much more polished than the first one.

@chocobo92 Yeah for sure, it's an acquired taste
Slitterhead is my GOTY. It is such a unique experience and it had a vision and went for it, even though it was obvious it would alienate the traditional gamer crowd. By no means was it perfect, but it was fun, challenging at moments, and captivatingly bizarre.
Honestly, i believe charlie when he says the jujutsu kaisen game is worse. At least concord had effort put into it, certainly not in the right places, but it still had effort. Usually shitty anime games have a slightly animated character or, at the very least, a custom-made jpeg. The level of laziness needed to just screenshot the show is insane.

Worst games: 5. Skull & Bones, 4. Star Wars Outlaws, 3. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leauge, 2. Dustborn, 1. Concord.
Best games: 5. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, 4. Stellar Blade, 3. Balatro, 2. Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2, 1. Black Myth Wukong.
Star wars outlaws was kinda generic, but ultimately not THAT bad.
