The U.S. on Tuesday announced new tariffs on imports of electric vehicles (EVs), solar cells and other clean-energy products from #China, with a whopping quadrupling of levies on electric vehicles to 100 percent. The measures, which will take effect as the U.S. drums up China's so-called "overcapacity" in green goods, do not sit well with some trade partners. Countries like Germany and Sweden have warned against tariffs on Chinese EVs. So are the tariffs apparently more of a political show, particularly during an election cycle, rather than a well-thought economic strategy? How does it sit with U.S. car buyers looking for affordable, clean and innovative vehicles?

It's also worthwhile following the oil. The oil industry in the US has a huge influence over US policy and I see the tariffs as a move to slow the growth of green energy as a whole. There's also the reliance of the USD on oil - the petrodollar. Any move away from oil based tech means less money in the pockets of the elite and the politicians plus a much weaker USD.

The US athletic shouts to the Chinese athletic you have too much overcapacity of energy that I cannot compete with you. I will complain to the Olympic to stop you form participate in all Olympic games as it is not fair to other athletics from other countries . China is not fair that China has overcapacity in every sports.

the US disables the WTO because it doesn't want to follow the rules. cancelled the TTP similarly. those are existing trade mechanisms.
US also doesn't follow rules in NAFTA/USMCA.

Just another way to say Chinese cars are banned from entering America which seems to sound a bit extreme, so tariffs will do.
