    I have loved this music for a very long time. The amount of pleasure that Stravinsky has given me in 70 years of listening is beyond measure. This mass is marvelous because it masterfully mixes the old with the new. The uniqueness of the ensemble is part of its magic.

    Un immense chef d'œuvre, très bien interprété. Stravinsky est à l'aise dans l'expression du sublime.

    La coda du sanctus est absolument incroyable. La messe en général me donne une impression de clarté, les dissonances sont franches, luminosité, élévation. Tant de qualités et la je ne parle pas encore de la justesse de la forme musicale et du texte. L'aspect spirituel par dessus le marché!? c'en est presque trop beau pour être vrai.

    The intonation at the opening in the orchestra is suspect. And no children in the chorus. I agree with one of the comments, that Stravinsky discouraged vocal vibrato in this work - and there is too much vibrato in the solo parts.

      @cobblestonegenerator 5 років тому +1

      Very true. Even though i know its hard to find a really good childrens chorus for a work like this, it would've helped with the vibrato i think. Children have that light purity of sound. Its also a shame to have a conductor pick a piece to perform and not be able to prepare it in time. As ive been told by music educators in the past, if you cant pull a piece off its because of your ability as a conductor.

    Wonderfully accurate, lovely sound among the singers and winds. Conductor's style is too limp and rounded for Stravinsky. About the piece: the inclusion of 3 trombones in a group of only 10 wind instruments is strange and at times makes it sound unbalanced.

    • @xyz4632
      @xyz4632 8 років тому +1

      +Robert Wilks It's not too limp and rounded, but just congruent with the spirit of sacred music, that is not made to indulges to the passions of wordly music, but to express the contemplation of God. Not falling in the ingenuous temptation of weighing down the music only because it's Stravinsky is a merit.

    • @Mezzotenor
      @Mezzotenor 8 років тому +1

      +Robert Wilks Agree about the over-smooth beats, should be crisper. As to the 3 trombones, I'd point out that having a trio of them is a custom going WAY back, as witness Mozart's scoring of the Requiem and the trombones heard at the appearance of the Commendatore (supernatural element) in Don Giovanni. Older precursors to today's trombones were in church use all the way back to the Renaissance, and it actually took a while for them to catch on as instruments usable in secular music. The early instruments were often used to double choral altos, tenors and basses, and only their modern versions are loud and blatty.

      Strangely IN-accurate, what occurs from :55 for a few instants. Pickup a score to see (hear) what your ears have overlooked (heard).

    Such a poor performance of a great work! The brass is all over the place, and lack the punch that is necessary for Stravinsky. The choir is ok but doesn't have (again) that punch that comes from feeling the music. I've listened to a lot of French recordings of religious music lately and I just don't think they get the ardour that is necessary to perform it properly. There's no spirit in it.

    • @timc7543
      @timc7543 3 роки тому

      The instrumentalists in general are really off in this performance. Tuning, entrances, rhythm, fundamentals, just badly-played across the board.

  • @TdF_101
    @TdF_101 2 роки тому +1

    sorry to say, it's quite badly played. It feels sloppy, not precise. The horizontal workings of the music should be felt as they intertwine, but also the verticality ... the attacks, the chords, the careful voicings.

    Stravinsky sollte seine Kunst nicht für Kirchenmumpitz hergeben.

    • @georgebozhidarov2899
      @georgebozhidarov2899 7 років тому +1

      Ganz im Gegenteil : ) Stravinsky zeigt uns das wahre Gesicht der Religion, indem er seine Kunst nie für Kirchenmumpitz oder für politische Propaganda hergibt, sondern den reinen Geist des Christentums aus der Bibel herauszieht. 'Nur in der Musik kann man Gott wirklich loben, und keinsefalls in der Kirchen!' , hat er selbst einmal gesagt.

  • @fingerhorn4

    Completely limp performance of this great piece. I don't know if they are entirely professional, but if this ensemble is, then either they were having an off day or maybe rehearsals were pressed for time. But there is no pulse anywhere. This sounds lifeless, flat and dreary. Stravinsky wanted this piece to be austere, but not lifeless.

      Yes, they needed other wind, brass players. I conducted this piece a long time ago, for a priest's first Mass, and all the wind/brass players were students of the first-chair players of The Cleveland Orchestra. Those young players played a hell of a lot better than this.
