170 workers once lived at the Union Stone Quarry. The quarry mined limestone used for the Pennsylvania Railroad bed and was closed in 1936. This long, underground drain tunnel still leads in to the quarry.
This is the first video in a series of videos about the notorious Gut Road.
Check out Part II for the actual quarry and community.

I wanted to learn about old tunnel systems under york pa and found your channel! Very, very cool!
Thank you Caitlyn.
Cool video! This is a treasure. Also I lived (for a year) in Harford County, MD in the 90s, and I remember that slippery, foggy, winter rain. Stay safe.
Thank you Dan! Yeah I enjoy the foggy winters but I'm ready for spring.
LMAO! OH Gut road! I've been through that tunnel quite a few times!
This is very cool I've been on gut rd many times and I never knew what was inside that tunnel but I wanted to know so this is really cool
Thank you! Definitely check out the second part inside the actual quarry and abandoned community.
Back in the mid 70's friends of mine would fish in the south quary and I was told that the local justice of the piece ,Dull, I believe would patrol the area and take the fishermans equiptment for being on private property.Been there myself years ago and thought the lakes were very cool and beautiful.Love to know how deep the are? YORK , PA.
Interesting stuff. I was born, raised, and still live in York County, and had no idea this existed!
Spooky tunnel. Running is a great way to explore a area or city. I have been attacked by bats running at night. It was always riverbeds
I thought the same thing about running to explore areas when I started this channel last year. I wanted to see an abandoned WWII bunker but didn't have much time so I ended up running to it and thought, I should start a channel around this lol
Great video. I think when you went under the huge culvert, you should of not went thru the tunnel, but climbed up on the right. That would have brought you into the bombed-out hollow structures that were the old quarry buildings. I have several old maps that show a rail spur from the north curving along those structures. I also see from those pics, that little boat ramp. He was looking into the quarry, if he would have tooks pics 180 degrees behind where he was standing, it would have been those structures. Any chance you could go back?
Oh, I just did a google search. I found the rest of the pics of the buildings. Okay, thanks.
Been back there a few times swam in the water have some photos climbing in the old buildings met an older gentleman who told us about the quarry and such !
The kidnapping rape and shooting.was my neighbor daughter. His daughter and a male friend were walking along the railroad tracks in our small town when they were kidnapped and hualed away in a truck. She was rapped and both were shot in the head. Some how they ended up in the cold water of the Susquehanna river ,where some duck hunters in a boat picked them up saved their lives. They both went on to live their lives. Her parents went on Montell Williams tv show and told her story.
Yeah that is a crazy story. I did a video on that as well.

So cool seeing the bats
It was cool seeing them in there. Not so much the spider... Lol
I grew up fishing down there, used to live just around the corner on Front Street in York Haven. I done other things down Gut Road, fun road in a 4x4 going further back. But I never knew about this area of it, that there was homes off to that side of it. I smoked pot in the tunnels as a teenager, never went further and that’s probably why lol.
Pretty cool. Definitely check out part two of this where I explore the actual quarry and the old shacks left from the mining community.
PSA: This is Private Property that I obtained permission to access. The owner requested that I emphasize that it is private property and trespassers will be charged. Check out my second part where I explain this further. The intent of this first part was to show that explorers should: STOP if not sure, REQUEST PERMISSION to access and there is a chance they might allow you. I clarified the private property point and permission to access in the second part where I explore the actual quarry and abandoned community.
Ive always wanted to go through those tunnels. Ive been told that theres a Pagan indian painted on a wall somewhere in one of the tunnels
@@damglad1675 there is a huge symbol painted on the cliff there. Check out my second part. I explore that area.
Interesting.
It surprises me how still he was able to hold the "selfie camera" as he was walking and moving around otherwise.
Also, I wonder if the abandoned village would be a good place to use a metal detector.
Check out my second part where I explore the abandoned community.
Interesting. I have been in that area a few times but never noticed it.
Should I move to the York area? I'm thinking bout it. Houses are still affordable.i spent enough time in big cities all over i like the woods...are the people cool or do they not like outsiders?
Does it look like it could be traveled by mountain bike?
OMG! Are you ok? Lol! And, uh, did you come out of the river? Creepy video. Cute bats.
Lol yeah just scraped my shin and hand up a little.
Nevermind...watched the rest of the video! Haha!
That would be cool though.
Nice channel bud. My family's been in hbg since the 1700s.
You should do a show on the alien landings in the area in the 60s. Supposedly a ship landed in the middle of the Hall Manor project 😂
Thank you! That's a crazy story lol. I definitely need to look into that. Was it reported in the papers? Aliens in Hall Manor 😂
@@runningintohistory I believe so. Sightings were all over the area. They used to put out chairs to sit and watch. Cameras actually got siezed
I remember my mom telling me something about that. I thought she said something about it happening in Enola but maybe it was all over. I will definitely look it up.
@@runningintohistory absolutely, the navy bases. One in Mechanicsburg and TMI. ENOLA had a bunch. It was a cluster at the time. Apparently, a boy walked up to the craft in Hall Manor 😆
Can't wait to research that one lol. Thanks for the tip. If you have any others, send them my way.
WOW! Interesting video, good explore!
Thank you!
I haven't been back there in years. I heard they put you trail cams and call the cops on trespassers within the last 2 years
Yeah this is all true. Check me second part that discuses this.
So where in Saginaw is the tunnel
I'm exploring like you and making videos, can't find this place on maps
Check out my second video on this location. I show a map.
ua-cam.com/video/lAnciH24mWA/v-deo.html
Thanks I actually found both tunnels on maps.
Btw did you visit both culverts along guy Rd? Ones on one end and the other was closer to saginaw
@Jakey Bakers 420 I did photograph them a while back. Gut road is an interesting area.
Hey, would you be interested in coming on a live local TV show on a Thursday night? Love to have you as a guest!
When you get a second, send me an email. Runningintohistory@outlook.com.
The J.E. Baker company is now owned by Magnesita. Don't tresspass onto any of their property, as they don't think twice about going full out with the law.
Check out my part two of this quarry. I had full permission from the owner.
😂
Oh no. Full out with the law. A trespassing citation. What on earth would I do 😢
@phil4487 , yeah. It's funny until you sit in jail for 9 days, then get a $600 fine just for being found on property. The guy who got caught stealing copper pipes out of one of their decaying houses is still sitting in jail while he waits for his sentence. A house they ended up bulldozing anyways.
@pamelanoel8948 yeahhhh that's not how that works. Whoever "sat in jail for 9 days" did so because of what he did while trespassing. Whether it's criminal, simple, or defiant, trespass depends on your intent and what other crimes you commit while trespassing. Truly being "just found on the property" is a summary offense. I have no sympathy for the thief 🤷♂️.
Wow
😂i grew up around there👀👀👀👍
Not so hidden if you know where is and found it.
So.....if I find something with my metal detector and I now know where it is, it wasn't hidden? 😂 Fascinating. Now I'm interested in seeing your other comprehensions of established principles in life. I have been in this area many times and never noticed this tunnel so it appears to be hidden to me and many others in the comments. Unless we have different definitions of hidden...
@@erikbrand526 I actually did just look up "hidden". Merriam Webster indicates "being out of sight or not readily apparent." I would say that is 100% what this is, so I stand by my title. Lol But thanks to both of you for checking.
Maybe a walking stick along with your selfie stick
Lol good idea.
Oooohh!! so he didn’t GO to the 1920’s, it’s just an aban-ok.
Genius!
Well I can tell you one thing for sure. You were trespassing on private property. I'm not surprised to see the trash! Almost everyone who goes there leave all the trash they brought with them there like there is going to be someone coming to clean up after them! If this type of behavior continues I promise it will be closing permanently! Jerks!!!!!
Check out my second part to this video. I obtained permission from the owner of the property. The second part explores the entire quarry area.
If it's not posted, it's not trespassing.
@@andrewhanson5942 unfortunately like many of Pennsylvania's statutes, it's not that simple for Trespassing, which includes multiple levels: Criminal Trespass, Defiant Trespass, Simple Trespass, Agriculture Trespass, etc. Technically, only two of these charges require posting: Defiant and Agricultural. The other two, Simple and Criminal only require entering property "knowing that he is not licensed to do so", for the specific reasons indicated in the statute. Then there is Case Law where a person was charged after signs were previously removed by someone but they were publicly posted at a recent date to the trespassing.
But even Simple Trespass includes "fencing or other enclosures manifestly designed to exclude intruders."
In the end there really are only 3 defenses to Trespassing included in the statute: 1) It was abandoned, 2) Open to the public and 3)The actor believed the owner would have permitted him. But those are defenses in court after they are charged.
@@runningintohistory OK David, spoken like a lawyer, because I seriously doubt that even landowners or law enforcement officers have any idea about these distinctions. In my experience, you can pretty much roam the world freely as long as you utilize common sense. Should you ever be confronted by a landowner while wandering on un-posted property you simply apologize and promise to never return and that's the end of it. It's the old permission vs forgiveness thing. Option #2 gets you into a lot of places nobody would offer up otherwise. As a wise man once told me, "It's a lot easier to find somebody who won't say 'No" than it is to find somebody who will say 'Yes'. " Just human nature. Go wander and enjoy the freedom God gave you to carry your consciousness all over this green earth.
@@andrewhanson5942 Hey Andrew, not sure who David is but the reason I replied to your comment was so that people didn't think what you said is true, it is not in Pennsylvania at least. I guarantee you that this property owner and law enforcement are well versed in the trespassing statutes. Public dockets for this property show that five people in the last 4 years believed the same thing you apparently do and they now have misdemeanors on their records that they have to explain to future employers, etc. And they were identified and charged based on images captured by the cellular game cams here.
I am no lawyer but I do educate myself on the laws that we are expected to live under as a society. Particularly considering the long term consequences for simply exploring someone's property.
At some point in life I learned that developing relationships with people was more important than any inital objectives I might have had and can lead to endless future opportunities. Unfortunately Dale Carnegie's principles have been lost on this current generation.
