I never get tired of seeing this. To quote a certain Imperial officer, "It's an older video, but it still checks out."
I held an actual movie used proton pack, back when my sister worked for sony studios. It was mainly made from soft foam. Man let me tell you, seeing and holding it was a dream come true
+Eddie Scorsese - The soft foam was a stunt pack and not a hero pack most likely. You can find more info on the difference between stunt packs and hero packs on GBFans.
+DJGamera cool thanks for the info!
Eddie Scorsese - No problem. Been a member of GBfans since 2008 and have read up on the different types of packs used in the movies. I'm also building my own pack with lights and sounds for this Halloween and am about 1/3 of the way done.
Yeah that's the stunt pack. Old comment but the actors complained so much about the fiberglass "hero" packs weighing so much (a 1:1 pack can weight up to 45 pounds) that they made foam stunt packs. You can easily tell which ones are the stunt packs in the film because the stunt packs don't have a V hook (The clip that the neutrino wand holds onto) and the lights are static rather than cycling through in a circle. The big scene that you can really see this is the scene where Stay Puft appears and the GBs duck under a bench and they talk about crossing the streams. If you look at Venkman's pack you'll notice it lacks the v hook and the lights are static.
Yeah, they had real metal versions and foam versions. Dan akaroid used the metal one most of the time, while Bill Murray used the foam one most of the time
Mike, thanks for doing the video on the Phantom Blaster pack. I do my best to make sure each pack has some kind of feature that stands out that distinguishes from anybody else that builds a pack. Thanks for the kind the kind words.
How can I see your stuff to buy
Dude, absolutely incredible work! Simple amazing man. Breathtaking.
Awesome man! Congrats! I cant wait for my gb1 pack to arrive shortly. Cheers dude! I don't think there's anything cooler than a proton pack.
Dang it. Literally everything you are saying is hitting home. I have, in my office on my wall, several lightsaber reproductions, an entire wall dedicated to Indiana Jones and artifacts from the film, a corner for all my Back To the Future stuff (including parts of the movie used car), and now I'm building a proton pack.
Thanks for sharing, it's so cool to see someone else who was obsessed as I was at such a young age, though by the time I finally saw Ghostbusters, it was 1987 at the age of 5. :-)
As a fellow collector I must say that proton pack is amazing and is my holly grail.1 day I will have 1 but until then I will enjoy seeing other people enjoying theirs:)
Another great vid. Obviously worth another "like". Keep up the excellent videos. That proton pack is amazing.
Very very cool, always nice to find a great new channel.
Well, I'm happy you finally achieved the dream of having a proton pack. I'm young and inexperienced so I know I'll hit a few bumps on the road but I hope it will all pay off in the end.
Wow absolutely incredible!
I recently ordered one of Video Bob's premium packs. I'm so glad I did, because I used to watch the Ghostbusters movies religiously when I was a little kid.
I gotta say after seeing and hearing this turn on and off with the sound effects....im very impressed! Wish they were made for the fans!
That's good! And your pack looks awesome!
Man those things are heavy to carry, no joke. I've always wanted to own one. Wearing one a couple of years ago has made me more interested in having one.
I was curious how your pack has been holding up. Right now just building one myself but it just has lights, down the road would love to buy one like this. Have you had any issues arise from it or has it been pretty solid? I'd almost be afraid to wear one that good for fear of damage. Either way awesome prop replica, I'm so jealous of you Michael lol.
This is next to get on my agenda!!
Great looking pack! I think your 2 red tubing pieces are cris-crossed? I totally understand & can relate about having memorabilia from your favorite movies. I have a Knight Rider KITT replica, BTTF hoverboard, GB proton pack, and next will be a Luke Skywalker lighsaber and Michael Keaton '89 batsuit. Your videos are awesome btw!
that is unbelievably awesome!
So freaking cool!!!
You pick items from 4 of the greatest movie's of the decade probably of all time that is awesome
Fantastic!
Hey! I'm also working on my own proton pack as well and I just received my fiberglass shell. So did you collaborate with Todd and made the pack yourself or did he ask you what specifics you wanted and he built it for you??
I bought one of these proton packs. Its the most awesome thing in my collection...well next to my Slideshow collectables T-800 full life size endoskeleton.
How is it holding up after the four years you've had it? Any major issues that might prepare us out there? I don't own this pack, but I am building one. It's always good to be armed with things learned from those that have gone before...
That is the sickest thing I have ever seen!
@retroblasting, beautiful pack bud!
Nice video. I'm currently working on a reboot pack with loads of custom tech. I'm tempted to build one of the original packs too, but most GB cosplayers have them, and we'd just like to be different. This is a beautiful pack though.
NO...NO..FUCK THE REBOOT
Danielle they are horrible don't waste your time nothing about it looks good just like the movie. We might still get another chance to see a good Ghostbusters movie I was talking we someone at ghost corp on facebook messenger and obviously without saying anything that would confirm anything they made it clear that a new Ghostbusters movie could hit the theater by end of 2019 early 2020 and it won't have the horrible director of the 2016 movie but the one from the original movies again. Anyways don't take any of this as fact they did not confirm it to me but they had way to much. Info on a new movie coming out for it to nor be something that is going to happen.
That's so cool !
the only thing i did not see with the pack is the wand tip did not light up. if it did he did not show it. i hope it does because this replica is so close, it is like he pulled it right out of the movie.great job sir.
Is there a website that Phantom Blasters has that I can check it out? I am thinking of doing Ghostbusters with some friends for Halloween, but I need to find out where to buy the equipment, and how much it will cost me.
I've always wanted a "realistic" proton pack, but I'm scared of the cost of a good one to the point of considering settling for the mass produced 3/4 scale semi realisic halloween costume prop/toys ( with working ghost trap and PK meter). If is is not too personal what price range did yours fall into?
Hey did you ever get your Delorean fixed after you got hit?
By the way, do you know what kind of sound board you chose for your back? I understand that the most common ones that are used are Hyperdyne and replica props.
Awesome
It's a beauty, alright! I would enroll in a Proton Pack Repair Institute in a heartbeat.
So other than maintenance what did you do when it came to construction or did Todd do all the building? And boy I hope he still takes commissions...
sweet i always loved they ghostbusters
DAMN, that is one FINE piece of Phantom Blasting hardware! How heavy is that thing anyway?
And I trust that the DMC-12 is back up to factory specs by now?
This is one impressive prop.
This is really awesome. I have always dreamed about a proton pack. And the costumes too although I think they created those? Do you really own a DeLorean or just that toy version of it that came out a while back?????
Really own one. ua-cam.com/video/WiaUsSWL3Rw/v-deo.html
@@retroblasting WHOA!
wow great vid i have aways Dream of owning a delorean and a proton pack maybe someday i will but thanks for the info man are you going to make a video about what its like owning a DeLorean or an update on after the accident im sorry to hear about that if i owned one i would only drive it as a weekend car but thanks for shareing
What did you do about the broken De Lorian? Sorry if I misspelled it.
Need one!
i had a question- what is that transparent tube going from their proton pack to their pocket????
I love my pack, it's so surreal to actually have one sitting in your room. Only down side from getting my pack from Bob's Prop Shop is now I have people from GBfans 'explaining' to me that I was ripped off because the shell is an 8th of an inch too small blah blah blah. They REALLY don't like Bob over there.
How much did this iconic piece of kit set you back? It is by far one of the most impressive things I have ever seen, you make the trolls green with envy!
I see these on ebay sometimes and I'm looking to get one. Would you advise that I buy one from there, or have one commissioned. I just want good quality and not get ripped off.
Well said! It's disturbing to realize that there are those who have so little in their own lives to enjoy that they force their sad presence upon those who do .
The look of satisfaction when he turns it on at 5.01 is awesome. 😀😀😀
I NEED THOSE LIGHTS!!!!!
That looks sweet
Are you familiar with crystal focus lightsabers?
Getting your hands on a 'wanted' object never gets old...
Does the guy still make them and how much is it???
You should make your next one they are not that complicated Iv made 6 packs and now building #7 each one is better and more existing. There is no feeling that's quite like a proton pack it's highly addictive my Daughter even has a pack I customized for her. At this time I'm working on a steam punk proton pack should be done next year.
I would love a Ghostbusters Slime Blower more. Lol that it much more difficult to find, buy, or make
in the elevator sceen...what does egon switch on???....what is he turning???
+richard dominique - Not sure, as on the actual movie-used packs there are no other switches besides the ones on the neutrino wand.
I thought geek was chic now. I'm surprised by all the anti-nerd comments on this video. Even for youtube, it's bad. Anyway, I just discovered your channel and I love it. I didn't have the majority of these toys when I was a kid in the 80s, unfortunately. But I enjoy the hell out of these reviews. Keep the content coming!
you had one job todd oneeee job toddd and you did it
Retroblasting please tell me you have one of these for sale I am a die hard ghostbusters fan this is what I want for holloween , please let me know thanks
You can add sound to your Ghostbusters Proton Pack with a cool new app on the iTunes App Store called "Proton Pack Sound Effects". Works great!
Does that guy still make proton packs??
very true, I hear he also overcharges. Well the search continues then...
So how much did it cost you?
I always want Dr. Grant's Hat from Jurassic Park
Mike youre what I call a uber fan, which isnt a bad thing. lol But youve & Mel got it easy for movie props/replicas compared to the one I want. You got the Deloran from BTTF, I want the 66 Mustang Steve McQueen drove in Bullet! What do you think is going to be harder to get? LOL
OUCH! OMG I think I'm going to be sick! PLease tell me he got sued into the stone age or did serious time & became Bubba the drug dealers gf inside. I have to be honest I do love Bullitt but what got me addicted to the idea of a Mustang was watching Robert Urich star as Spenser for Hire and he drove the '68 Mustang in S 1 & 3, in S2 he had it for four episodes till it was destoryed then got a new one. I gotta ask what was your baby's color?
Sounds nice, :D. Although I also like cobalt blue, midnight black & crimson red
I can post a Pic of my pack, Which i spent a year building. 100% Aluminum Partical Thrower, all Origional parts, Many aluminum parts on the pack. They are a labor of love, and you can look to spend 800 - 2,300 for a Movie quality pack. We have built 13 so far in our group
Is tod willing to make another
sadly his email sint available anymore :-; was really hoping for them
How much did that cost?
How much did it cost you?
I still dream of owning a great proton pack. one day one will be mine oh yes it will be mine.
I want one so bad
I noticed that you didn't mention how much that baby cost. For that type of craftsmanship I would guess at no less that 1,500.00.
I'd love to have that proton pack, but I bet you shelled out a good amount of money to own it. I'm guessing well over $500.
$500 would barely cover the electronics, lighting, and sound.
bobspropshop sells them for 2500,- $
I built my own for well under $300...
Slears bobspropshop is a joke. He sells overpriced garbage. Go to gbfans.com if you want accurate high end parts.
+Slears - And he is one of the worst sellers according to GBFans. If you want an accurate Pack it'd cost you well over $2,000 (including all the lights and sound effects)
+RetroBlaster can I buy this
Im a Thirtysomething (late)..and I guess I enjoyed Ghostbusters, but compared to other classic films of the day I did not play Ghostbusters..I think we just thought it was unplayable unless you like shooting plasma at the sky. I remember visiting Disney Worlds MGM Studios in the late 1990s and there were Ghostbusters characters out and about in full uniform an dthey had packs quite detailed liek this..wonder if they were DIsney created props or what....Now Back the the Future on the other hand...my Moms Datsun 280z made quite a few trips to 1955....So that DeLorean is boss for sure, especially with your Flux Capacitor.
whar can i jet this
That's a sweet pack where's the rest of your costume?
How much are these
what is a good place to find a real Fedora Indiana Jones hat?
Does he make the video game version?
Verdant Cyanide its based off the video game
oh
I want 1
i want one
God I would love ghostbusters props. Sadly, the next best thing I can think of is a ghostbusters game/simulator that will never happen. A sandbox ghostbuster game that lets you just be ghostbusters for awhile and go on calls, recharge equipment, empty traps, etc. I would immerse myself so hard in that.
you should play ghostbusters the video game released in 2009 ,, it was an amazing game it includes all the original cast doing the voice over
MARHVIN XII Oh, I did. I did for sure. Fun game but open world ghostbusting has a very strong pull, I think.
so your telling me that your favorites games are open world games
MARHVIN XII lol, I do enjoy them but what I'm saying is it would pretty fun to either control the guys or have your own franchise somewhere and have a strong element of what ghostbusters are: regular, blue collar exterminators (it just happens to be supernatural vermin). Throw in elements of business management and an interesting enough main story and you got my attention. I know some knockoff style games exist like that but not in the 3d action sense.
what games are like that .. im interest
Owning a proton pack is one of the most enjoyable experiences for a fan of the movies! I can see this video was posted over 2 years ago, so the inaccuracies are understandable. There has been much more research into the proton pack and it's dimensions based off of screen used pieces and the resources are becoming much easier to get a hold of. If anyone would like to even consider building on of their own, I highly recommend going to gbfans.com and becoming a member. The community can be super helpful in sourcing out all the parts you'll need and even some members will take construction commissions! Also, I would suggest doing a google search on Bob's Prop Shop AKA VideoBob AKA Bob Mosley. It may surprise you.
Conglaturations, you have prooved your fandom sir!
+kirayamatogatx105 - That's right. GBFans has a lot of information on the actual screen-used props and plans on how to make one of your own with accurate parts.
True there was never an item from the 1984 original movie, only the blue and really inacurate cartoon pack, i remember how pissed i was
You lucky bastard.
As a friend of the hosts and a true fan of the program, I must say to the subscriber that instantly dislikes a Retroblasting video as soon as it is posted, you are an immature troll. If you disagree with the content in the post, use this open forum to voice your opinion. If you're only subscribing to dislike any new content when it is posted, you should really reevaluate your future of scaring little children as they cross bridges.
Still an amazing proton pack though.
I remembered the show at Universal studios. I remembered I was like 8 or 9 and I was actually kinda let down by how bad the acting was and that the proton packs and guns were like these weird hybrids between the Real Ghostbusters and the movie. The effects were neat though. lol
Here's the real history of fan built proton packs and the guy that started it all. Source- Wikipedia, type "Proton Pack" and scroll down to the 2nd to the last paragraph and read all about it.
Yes paranorman ! The original ghost head ! Salute Sir!
i want one so i can watch ghostbusters and pretend im in the film and feel like im in the film because im wearing the costume i got the trap not quite the PKE meter or ghost goggles you know wut i mean but iv got the trap, costume and most importintly the Pro-ton-pack!
how the heak did you get dalorion lukes saber and the proton pack wow you must do a lot of wallet push ups
:) i will just have to make one :)
I want to open the cabinet behind you. Look at all the toys
Timothy Ward, I know, I drool over all of their displays
Now, if they could put laser diodes in the neutrino want to simulate the proton stream.
+YouthFreedomFighters - Someone had actually done that. I think I saw it on instructables.
how do you get a free proton pack i am a big fan of ghostbusters
+leo ramirez - If you want to build one, (screen accurate) it would cost you over $2,000.
+DJGamera Not quite. I built mine for about $400, including the price of the Matty Wand(not accurate, I know). That's also including the frame, Legris connectors, Clippard parts, Spectra ribbon cable, etc. A little bit of ingenuity and leg work go a long way in this hobby.
+DJGamera I think it would be worth it if you can get the rest of the costume cheaply. Basically saying, "I'm going to wear this for Halloween/costume parties for the rest of my life". It's a downpayment on a future of fun.
@brandon ellis, try to stay away from eBay for Proton Pack stuff, especially videobob. You can find parts, shells, tubing, etc... At GBFans.com, that's where I got all the parts for my pack and I spent a little over $1100.00 for everything!
On a plus side, all of the parts are really good quality and you're helping out the GB prop community! Check out the vid I put up with for my pack!
i want a protonpack
