    I never get tired of seeing this. To quote a certain Imperial officer, "It's an older video, but it still checks out."

    I held an actual movie used proton pack, back when my sister worked for sony studios. It was mainly made from soft foam. Man let me tell you, seeing and holding it was a dream come true

    • @SpaceWizardCosplay
      @SpaceWizardCosplay 9 років тому +7

      +Eddie Scorsese - The soft foam was a stunt pack and not a hero pack most likely. You can find more info on the difference between stunt packs and hero packs on GBFans.

      Eddie Scorsese - No problem. Been a member of GBfans since 2008 and have read up on the different types of packs used in the movies. I'm also building my own pack with lights and sounds for this Halloween and am about 1/3 of the way done.

    • @mulder19x95
      @mulder19x95 5 років тому +2

      Yeah that's the stunt pack. Old comment but the actors complained so much about the fiberglass "hero" packs weighing so much (a 1:1 pack can weight up to 45 pounds) that they made foam stunt packs. You can easily tell which ones are the stunt packs in the film because the stunt packs don't have a V hook (The clip that the neutrino wand holds onto) and the lights are static rather than cycling through in a circle. The big scene that you can really see this is the scene where Stay Puft appears and the GBs duck under a bench and they talk about crossing the streams. If you look at Venkman's pack you'll notice it lacks the v hook and the lights are static.

    • @henrydouberly3950
      @henrydouberly3950 5 років тому +3

      Yeah, they had real metal versions and foam versions. Dan akaroid used the metal one most of the time, while Bill Murray used the foam one most of the time

    Mike, thanks for doing the video on the Phantom Blaster pack. I do my best to make sure each pack has some kind of feature that stands out that distinguishes from anybody else that builds a pack. Thanks for the kind the kind words.

    Dang it. Literally everything you are saying is hitting home. I have, in my office on my wall, several lightsaber reproductions, an entire wall dedicated to Indiana Jones and artifacts from the film, a corner for all my Back To the Future stuff (including parts of the movie used car), and now I'm building a proton pack.

    Thanks for sharing, it's so cool to see someone else who was obsessed as I was at such a young age, though by the time I finally saw Ghostbusters, it was 1987 at the age of 5. :-)

    I was curious how your pack has been holding up. Right now just building one myself but it just has lights, down the road would love to buy one like this. Have you had any issues arise from it or has it been pretty solid? I'd almost be afraid to wear one that good for fear of damage. Either way awesome prop replica, I'm so jealous of you Michael lol.

      Danielle they are horrible don't waste your time nothing about it looks good just like the movie. We might still get another chance to see a good Ghostbusters movie I was talking we someone at ghost corp on facebook messenger and obviously without saying anything that would confirm anything they made it clear that a new Ghostbusters movie could hit the theater by end of 2019 early 2020 and it won't have the horrible director of the 2016 movie but the one from the original movies again. Anyways don't take any of this as fact they did not confirm it to me but they had way to much. Info on a new movie coming out for it to nor be something that is going to happen.

    I've always wanted a "realistic" proton pack, but I'm scared of the cost of a good one to the point of considering settling for the mass produced 3/4 scale semi realisic halloween costume prop/toys ( with working ghost trap and PK meter). If is is not too personal what price range did yours fall into?

I remember visiting Disney Worlds MGM Studios in the late 1990s and there were Ghostbusters characters out and about in full uniform an dthey had packs quite detailed liek this..wonder if they were DIsney created props or what....Now Back the the Future on the other hand...my Moms Datsun 280z made quite a few trips to 1955....So that DeLorean is boss for sure, especially with your Flux Capacitor.

    Owning a proton pack is one of the most enjoyable experiences for a fan of the movies! I can see this video was posted over 2 years ago, so the inaccuracies are understandable. There has been much more research into the proton pack and it's dimensions based off of screen used pieces and the resources are becoming much easier to get a hold of. If anyone would like to even consider building on of their own, I highly recommend going to gbfans.com and becoming a member. The community can be super helpful in sourcing out all the parts you'll need and even some members will take construction commissions! Also, I would suggest doing a google search on Bob's Prop Shop AKA VideoBob AKA Bob Mosley. It may surprise you.
    Conglaturations, you have prooved your fandom sir!

      +leo ramirez - If you want to build one, (screen accurate) it would cost you over $2,000.

      +DJGamera Not quite. I built mine for about $400, including the price of the Matty Wand(not accurate, I know). That's also including the frame, Legris connectors, Clippard parts, Spectra ribbon cable, etc. A little bit of ingenuity and leg work go a long way in this hobby.

      +DJGamera I think it would be worth it if you can get the rest of the costume cheaply. Basically saying, "I'm going to wear this for Halloween/costume parties for the rest of my life". It's a downpayment on a future of fun.

    @brandon ellis, try to stay away from eBay for Proton Pack stuff, especially videobob. You can find parts, shells, tubing, etc... At GBFans.com, that's where I got all the parts for my pack and I spent a little over $1100.00 for everything!
    On a plus side, all of the parts are really good quality and you're helping out the GB prop community! Check out the vid I put up with for my pack!
