- Race 3 Round 3 of the Tasmanian Circuit Racing Championship saw one of the best Improved Production races in recent years at Baskerville.
Jared House LX Torana 355 Holden stroker V8 vs Shane Bond's CA18DET Datsun 1200 Coupe (with 36mm restrictor).
Both cars running Yokohama A050 semi slicks.
thats what motorsport should be, not that trumped-up V8 supercar crap .. close racing from totally different cars. well done guys
What a drive by that Datto driver on P's.....awesome.
Pitty the v8 super cars aren't this exciting to watch.
This is boring
They ruined it when it came down to just ford and Holden. It was way better when it was the touring car championship.
@@RoyaEnfieldBSAman sure was
@@chrisczaj7947 you know nothing about racing
Yep V8 Supercars and F1 are mere shadows of their former selves....go back 15 or even 20 years and V8s and F1 were absolutely awesome spectacles, unlike their nowadays follow the leader BS! 👎👎😡
Superb Racing! This channel is quickly becoming a new favorite of mine. This is quality content. Thank you!
Great racing !! really shows the pros and cons of the two
I give up on supacars, this i could watch all day.
Love the datto! I've owned a couple, great little cars with the A14 fitted, an animal with the CA18 though :)
Ahhh, a team after me own heart. I looked at the Datsun's race number & it told me everything.
The Factory model code for the 1971 to 1973 Datsun 1200 Coupe is KB110
[K= Kuupe or Coupe, B= Small economy model group with small 'A' series engine.
!= first model after the original B10, 10= passenger body type] These are some boys that know their Datsuns.
Love the Torana it brings a smile to the face.
Dad had one.
Real racing , more entertaining than most other EXPENSIVE forms of motorsport .
i had a big grin watching this.. then thought i bet the drivers was even bigger.. Thanks so
good to watch actually racing!!!
Excellent racing from both guys, Torana suspension looks a bit soft and could be a bit lower, would handle even better, Datto with a P plate on the back👾
The datsons weight and geometry has the torana beat for corners no matter the setup
The sound of that V8 just singing down the back straight is just heaven.
I'm spewing neither had a working gopro 🤦♂️
waau this bring back memories of how we did it in the 70"s Modified saloons at its nest. Thanks for sharing.
Baskerville is such a good track, can see everything
Great racing as well
Best racing channel thanks 👍
Watching these 2 amazing drivers push up to and slightly past the limit was amazing.
That Torano last couple corners was in full drift trying to stay with the Ratsun!💪
Although both cars were so close it was up to the driver, I was glad to see that the Datsun Won.
My brother had a fastback that we beat the hell out of, and it was a pretty strong little car.
Thanks for all the work involved and uploading this wonderful video
The diversification of speed, what a brilliant battle!
Damm you do a fantastic job!!! love sitting down with a beer and watching your content 👌
Cheers 🍻 will be uploading more great battles from race meetings as well as the full races 👍
@@callanrs2000 Done well looking forward to it 👍
Great racing!!! Good race craft!! No touching or leaving each other out to dry 👏👏👏
Datsun definitely the dominant one in tight areas as expected
The V8 down the straight
Dato was impressive though
Keep posting close battles like this
I've always had old old mopars but I love Datos . What a great car they were .
Haha that little Datsun looked a handful alright. Torana sounded lovely down the back straight 😻
That was so epic seat of the pants racing. Loved every second of this! True motor sport. Happy the Dato got the win as well ;-)
Great footage of a great race. Well done Callan.
Had a CA18det for 10 years. Very sweet unit. Power and revvy.
That was epic! Seems the heavier car went through it's tyres towards the end, after that hard breaking and cornering. I like. Cheers
GO THE DATTO..💯
Great race!!!
well done guys,,,,,,absolute great driving skills......pleasure to watch.....
well done to both drivers....this was good to watch...
Awesome race, this is real racing not the modern Supercars crap! I'd rather watch paint dry, That Datto was sick I love it and the big T was going at it but I feel this course was too tight and short for the Torrie!
Go the mighty datto.looks like a lot of fun.
Epic. Well done Callan and IPRA TAS!!!
Amazing racing. Wish we had in car cams to go along with it!
Those were the days of great cars good race
I had a 120Y as a youngster, amazing little car, 1200cc pushrod engine capable of 160 kliks factory stock.
rofl, you did that to it? must've been a hairy ride in a 120Y with skinny tyres and strange body.... it was good times too. it didn't matter how long it took to get to the ton, as long as we got there... and the Datsuns were pretty reliable too even with a flogging.
@@AVportau It was on a long straight road with no other cars in sight, and I had a large 80 kg dog across the back seat, so when he got up to change sides he caused a bit of a fishtail from one side of the road to the other, but to the car's credit it was controllable, the only skid marks were in me undies, if a tyre had touched the dirt it would've been all over. I got a Fairlane after that, heaps more stable.
@@Jesse-B love it.... thems was the days when skidmarks could be achieved without too much effort... most factory cars had trouble handling is some way... and a few handled so well it was terrifying to be a passenger like some mad person driving a Mini hard around corners.
@@AVportau My brother had a hotted up Cooper S 🤣 skid marks abound.
@@Jesse-B ha ha Cooper S was very quick... my g/f at the time had a Mini panel van and she used to drive it like she stole it.... i've never been so concerned in my life... obviously i didn't marry her.
Pretty hard getting the V8 to maintain rev range on such a tight, twisty track.....
I used to love watching Big Ed Wilbur and the Americans come here in their big Corvettes and take on the Aussies in the Cooper S's.....
Needless to say I don't watch the Supercars....I like to see racing.
Like this.
That Holden driver must have been getting eye strain looking at the Datsons brake lights.
Good duel Im sure both drivers had a blast 👍
That torana sounds mint. What’s under the bonnet?
Holden 355 stroker with carburettor and fuel injected heads
Friggin Turbos ahhhh
Brilliant racing
Perfection!
That was awesome. Go you little datto
That Datto has it all going on...tighter in the corners, faster in the corners and almost faster in the straight away. Looks like it was a handful though, so much power for such a light car LOL
Datto lifting the front left under power. Nicely done.
Datto was nippy as😲 it was like watching a cat and mouse fight
Everything that could possibly make a Datsun fanboy proud. I was brought up thinking the SR motors were the only upgrade worth doing…….I better find a 1600 while the juices are still flowing!
How to explain the difference between hp and torque.
that datto is givin me half a chub. love it
🤣 I'm going to do a video on it soon and go over the specs of it 👍
close race.. nothing but love..
great to watch, just curious of lap times.
Datsun's fastest lap was a 57.0. Torana a few tenths back but has done 57.1 before
Go Dato!
the short wheelbase on the Datto is making it very skittish with all the power
AWESOME!
That torana sounded glorious
Its a beast. Have heaps more footage of it at Symmons flat out down the straight 👌
Go the datto!!!
Imagine if that Datsun had 4wd and Attesa from big brother GT-R.
Torana driver gives great lesson on how to leave the door open at almost every corner. Hitting an apex would help the Torana too.
its called respect racing anyone who closes the door is an idiot
I would love to see that datto vs LJ xu1 😀
Yes I had one of those in the 80s wish I still had it .
Fun to watch
Comes down to type of track, less corners few more or longer straights then Torana would have been in
Good racing by both, looks like they blitzed the rest of the field
Is that Datsun really just 1200cc with a turbo??!! 😳 Not 1600 or 1800cc??
CA18DET with a 36mm restrictor as per class rules
Ok, that makes more sense, 1.8L is significantly stronger than a 1.2L.
That's a ripper of a track down there in tassie.
Be interesting to see if an aluminium v8 with similar power would make a better match around corners
thanks for the vid. that was intense... those early Dato's are pretty legendary for many reasons. good rally, great economy, can be worked or better motors installed... hard to barrack against an old fave SLR but i gotta say i was hoping the Dato would take it out.
supercars suck these days... production cars are so much better and Bathurst should be run like it used to be with mixed classes all running at once... not their supercar americanised dribble... make production racing the premier class.
Thanks, appreciate it. As a matter of fact I've recently bought a production car to take to the bathurst 6hr in 2024. I'll be doing some videos on what's required to get there and the experience as a whole!
@@callanrs2000 cheers, lots of great vids on your channel. they should have a lot more views... i virtually never sub to channels but i'll sub to yours... good luck with the build.
Thanks for the kind words, really appreciate the support and will look at new thumb nails and captions 👍
@@callanrs2000 thanks, now you've read it i'll edit it... keep up the great content.
Weight is an incredible advantage.
That tiny Datsun weighs less than 800kg 👍
Weight balance might be holding it back though. Especially when the fuel tank gets lighter.
I was gunning for the bigger muscle car and tbh i think the small white one was just getting in the way and blocking while wearing out the tyres of the muscle car
Back when Cars were real.
I think the difference here was in the Driver, not the cars.
Wouldn’t look like that at Bathurst…
Stick your cloned parity. Bring back different cars with pros cons and exciting racing.
Awesome
The Datsun flat wore that Torana out. But man the Torry sounded sweet!
Up the CA!
Go the datto
Go torri! lol I used to have a 1200 ute and still kick myself for selling it...
I have a video on a very modified 1200 ute too if you want to check it out! 😁
Big and small car…….when the big car is a torana…..which is tiny!
Datsun looks so much better ,kinda reminds me of an escort which is best car ever
The Torana was faster but the Datsun driver showed better track sense.
I agree, it was also catching the Datsun under brakes but the tight track suited the Datsun. Torana wins on note though. Good racing. Jeff
If you gonna drive a V8, ya need a nice long straight....mate.
My dat was stolen in goulburn 1998 green with vinyl roof
And i bet thats not a crate 355 by the way it revs lol 15 to 20 k V8 getting wasted by a CA18DET lol Nissan power always eats V8s all day every day
Hardly “getting wasted by a CA18DET” when the Torrie reeled the Datto back in constantly. I’m a turbo 4 guy myself & this race wasn’t decided by the power but chassis setup & driver skill.
Great racing!
Its all about power to weight. You can tell the Datsun's talking a brisk yet nimble walk in the park while the Holden is huffing and puffing like an unbalanced overweight drunkard.
Good old Datto.
Torana's were always pigs to drive, on any track. I've had several, and they were dogs in the handling department.
Still love 'em though.
"Stretch it's legs".
What legs?
It got slaughtered.
5871cc vs. around 1800cc.
Get real.
Datsun driver is better
