This will outrun my 97 Honda Civic for now😳
Good luck with them intake valves🤣🤣
How awesome was that to drive?
I am in the process of buying what I believe is a special truck that you may be interested in. Once the title work is complete she is coming home with me. She is a 1994 F350 4x4 that brand new was sent to Quigley, Inc and had everything from the frame down stripped and had Ford F550 4x4 components installed. The truck is all original and powered by a 7.3 Powerstroke and has 27,300 original miles. I am purchasing the truck for my bee business so I wont have many miles put on it. I do have plans for a few improvements. If you are interested in seeing it, I would be glad to let you see it. Just let me know.
Convoy brother!
This was my dads truck. The house mover who owned it originally. He moved houses with her. Id ride shot gun. This was my favouritr truck. But she was loud as hell, no a/c so she'd be hot, and it was a bumpy ride. Still sounds just as loud. Seeing the dash brings back memories. I used to trace the outline of that bird on the glove box. I can still remember the smell. And I sat shotgun on that bench seat many times. This is so cool to see shes living her best life ❤❤
Thanks for some back story. cheers.
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing
It does not get hot enough in canada to have a/c mate, wait till you live in Perth, WA when we get to 47Celcius (116.6f) in february.
@@jasonswift7098 I doubt it will this year. A nice reprieve.
@@jasonswift7098 this years summer has been a bitch of one. Barely had any + 40s
That duck was originally featured in the movie convoy (1978). That duck was made by a fellow who would sell the ducks to hot roders back in the day. The director saw the duck and used it in the movie. Years down the road the son of the craftsman who invented the angry duck, found the original mold and remade the hood ornaments. He even made a miniature one (which I run it on my motorcycle). Unfortunately he fell into some financial issues and he stopped making them. Last thing I knew of him was that he was selling the original “running red indian” mold.
That's about as complete a reply on that subject as it gets.
Someone must still make them. I saw two in two weeks on different trucks recently.
@@ThePaulv12 I believe that there are reproductions being made
@@ThePaulv12 you can buy them at Iowa80 truck stops, along with many other options.
@@ThePaulv12 yes there is a company that made repos but they ain't as good as the original one like the one from the movie.
Anyone else interested in the kenworth logging truck, it's cool
Yep sure am
I'm interested but it's not a Detroit so not as interested as I could be
Maybe twinsticks garage would be interested!!
VERY
Sure would like to see a video
Detroit’s are great for 2 things
1. Turing diesel into power
2. Never forgetting the sound of a two stroke
What power?
Clay Ferguson you mean turning diesel into a sweet sound. Lol
3 things the third being money and fuel into sweet sweet noise
Turning diesel into noise!
Turning diesel into torque*^
i dont know what it is about that guy but he seems like a kind of guy that anyone can just get along with
Yes he does. Reminds me of my uncle. Lol
I know!!! I want to buy this guy a beer and talk to him.
I immediately started cracking up the moment he got it all the way to 3 grand. Two strokes never fail to sound both ridiculous and amazing at the same time lol
You didn't start cracking ùp when he said "cracked intake valves"?😅😅😅 What a clown or comedian.
It's not that I don't like other engines, it's just that I love Detroit's. They give me the goosebumbs. And I am not ashamed of it either.
The engineering of these engines is fantastic. Greatest general in WW2 was General Motors.
I put hundreds of thousands of miles on 8V92s. We called them "250,000 mile hand grenades" LOL. The cracked head deal was common. They got relatively poor mpg, were obviously quick off the line, and were loud. I like the sound of the 2 stroke Detroits. I cut my teeth on a 6-71 in a ready mix truck then moved to the 8V92s at my first over the road job. That company had them "cut back" and subscribed to the whole "fuel squeezer" line from Detroit at the time. They were fairly easy to "turn up" in a rest stop though LOL. The trucks of that company were spring ride cabover Freightliners with aluminum frames (very rough riding) and single sleepers. They had 3.70 rear ends and 13 speeds with no "splitter" hooked up, so, were effectively 9 speeds. Hooking up the "splitter" was also easy to do in a rest stop though. I could climb the east side of Homestake pass in 5th over at 32 mph or so (with the rest stop modifications of course). We were generally home every weekend and we never wanted to get caught with our "splitter" hooked up. So it was kind of a pain to have to uninstall it and reinstall it. I was in my 20s then though and, to me, it was well worth the fun LOL.
those darn good ol boys had it easier in a sense it was simpler, we like to tune our dump trucks when we get afar away job from the boss just takes 10 minutes
I've seen a few ford 1tons in the oil field with 6v91s in it
That is one of the best old trucker stories I've read in my entire life. Reason I got into diesel myself was this sorta thing. Thanks for sharing the experience with us young guys that don't know shit from squat when it comes to how hard you guys had to be to make it all happen.
Pardon my ignorance, but why were they against the splitter?
@@Rx7man Well 3.73 rears with a 13 spd will run right up there for top end in 13th. The Freightliner dealer knew that was not necessarily a great idea in a fleet operation. They also knew that when the trucks were traded in to them they'd have to resell them. And around here, selling a truck with an 8V92 and a nine speed or ten speed at the time would have been difficult as there were few fleets locally that would have bought in to the whole "fuel squeezer" concept.
The oldest I remember is a Black Mack and Convoy
Wasnt Convoy the Yellow truck in Vigilante 8?
@@Grimm-Gaming he's referring to the film Convoy from 1978, also where the song Convoy by CW McCall came from
@@Grimm-Gaming im glad im not the only one to think that also
Convoy “the Duck” was my thought also

What a guy, letting you hammer on his truck and smiling the whole time.
I spent the first 10 years of my trucking career in Detroit-powered Freightliners in the early 1980s. Lots of 6V92s and 8V92s in the fleet. They were great on the open road, absolutely smooth as a sewing machine. And that great 2-stroke sound. Emissions regulations killed them off around the turn of the century. Too bad.
That’s a big 10-4 rubber duck we got ourselves a CONVOY
Any truck driver that says he don't grind gears is a liar! Either he grinds at some point or he ain't driven anything bigger than a pickup
Kevin Lesch i can't even drive a pickup without grinding lol
I don’t know that transmission but if he was not using the splitter correctly you would be skipping gears causing grinding for not waiting for the revs to drop enough.
Or he’s new and only qualified to drive a automatic. LOL 😂
But dont let it slam when ya split them, ouch. And I very seldom grind, but also have bout 3 million miles under my belt, much of it off road.
@@arthurlejawka6392 Shifting without splitter must wait longer since the rpm drop is 400. With splitter can shift faster because only 200rpm drop.
When using the splitter without crossing the 1-3 or 2-4 gate, I always shift to neutral then back in where I just came from because one time going up a hill (thankfully empty) I just split it from OD to direct in 3rd gear and lazily popped the clutch and it went into no gear. Luckily I had a head of steam up and managed to get it seamlessly into high range second. I learnt my lesson - don't just pop the clutch when using the splitter esp when loaded.
"Pig Pen this heres the Rubber Duck, and we just ain't gonna pay no toll. So we crashed the gate doin 98. I said let them truckers roll a 10-4."
Don't forget about them Jesus freaks and the suicide jockey hauling dynamite.
@@markbremmer8642 he needs all the help he can get.
I go 98 in my truck every time I cross the bridge into Jersey 😂
When I was in the Army our personnel carriers had these great old Detroit Diesels and they were beasts. I loved the sound those things made, when you got them tuned really good and had them maintained they sounded great. Thanks for sharing the Peterbuilt because that sound reminded me of that ol personnel carrier.
Michael Barrett..... The APC's had 6-53T's (some with 6-53TA's)..... which don't sound anything like the 8-92T in Wayne's IT colored conventional, and definitely nothing like the 12-71N in his COE Pete... yes they definitely have the 2 cycle sound, but it's nothing like the Series 53's larger "siblings".
One of the best sounds in the entire world, is a screaming Silver 92! ❤️
Yep, some things just give you the permagrin. Regards from Indiana, USA.
Anderson Indiana guy giving second props to this fantastic truckwork. Would be a doozy to see this down 465
@Fattest Royal. or on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
I am up by Kokomo!
2 stroke Detroit...best way to turn diesel fuel into glorious noise
Overrated, but eh, people are welcome to their own opinions. I'd rather have a 2000s pre-emissions ISX15 with a twin turbo setup.
2 Stroke Commer TS3 comes a close second, different kinda sound though!

Angry Duck is from Convoy and later Deathproof
That's a big 10-4 good buddy
Man watching this vid brought back a lot of good memories as a kid. My late father was a truck driver - tomorrow would be his birthday as a matter of fact - anyhow his last truck was a Pete 379. Any Pete has a special place in my heart. This one is so bad ass with that screaming Detroit.
Now THAT is what you call Screamin' Jimmy!! Nice!
Why can't I like a video more than once!!!
The duck is originally from Convoy with R. D trucking the bull dog Mack with a can on the back
Haven't listened to Convoy in yrs. CW McCall was a hell of a wordsmith
Definitely should do move videos with this guy. He seems like a really cool down to earth guy
There is nothing like a 2 stroke choke with a hair dryer on it for snap of the line. They weren’t the best engine for trucking. But they were fun to drive and there is no sound like it. Great video 👍
Can't find 'em grind 'em. They'll make 'em rubber next year.
Grip it and rip it
My family has a firetruck with an 8v92 thats converted to a flat bed to haul goosenecks. This truck is awesome
The hood ornament from the movie Convoy
The Rubber Duck's hood
This is my favorite guest youve ever had on the show.
That sound is so unique. Kind of a boxer engine sound with the slap sound of a powerstroke
That duck is from convoy. Best trucker movie ever.
Came from the big black Mack with a can on back and a Jaguar hauling ass. Convoy!
There's just something about older semi-trucks that hits me right in the feelings. This guy has a few nice old trucks.
If he hung about a 1000lbs of weight just forward of the rear axle, he'd get traction off the line and probably drop two seconds off his 1/4 mile time. Engine wouldn't care any, that's for sure.
Shoot, just move the engine to the back to make it a mid engine... should not be too hard...eyeroll but it would be awesome.
Was thinking the same thing, just throw a scrap 5.9 over the rear axle & you’ll be fine, that thing will hook up pretty frigin fast.
A scrap 5.9 that looks functional! That would be cool cause it would still be functional, just not in the way one would think!
@@kenwillis8487, lol true! Since its "Functional" you could sell it for 5K since it's still functional just not behind a transmission.
Most drag comps for single/dual axle are around 20k lb truck weight. So he could get away with bolting counterweight to the truck, for sure.
as soon as he said that the truck used to be drag raced in st thomas I recognized it instantly. That's a sweet truck.
"Hello, Mickey Thompson? Want to talk to you about a BIG drag radial!" LOL " Need to hook 4000 ft/lbs of torque".
find a dood with 44x21 truxus in 22" wheels run out and use em.... cut the 22.5s down and use pickup bias plys they will hook
These are both neat truck(s)...but man, I winced when he said the International with the 4-53 was sold. That truck was cool as hell. The air start was great. "Take off your headset...I don't want you to hurt your ears!" to the girl working the drive through at the coffee shop
Imagine that its not blowing out an insane amount of black smoke. Its actually burning most of the fuel like it should lol unlike these street trucks that think they are making a bunch of power cus of all the black smoke but really they are just wasting money by throwing fuel out the stacks lol
When you got Black plumes of smoke, that's how you Know it's Good!
@@ididiesel83 for looks an thats about it tho lol.
@Ben T. Dam that makes sense i never knew that. Thanks ive been slowly learning how they operate.
on mechanical diesels, fuel is cheep, air is expensive
Oh wow, gotta luv the sound of that 2 Stroke Detroit! I recall back in the '70's driving a cab-over with a Detroit under the hood, so easy to over rev the engine.
I've seen that truck up in Sparta or St Thomas Dragway lot's of times that's awesome
My stock 8V92TTA was 630 horse with the industrial injectors. My truck was built to haul pipe to the Alaska pipeline. The hood ornament was the one the "rubber duck" had on his mack in the movie convoy.
Dude, your face while you were shifting... priceless lol
Now that's a perfect "going to town unit".
Nothing like a singing Detroit to put a smile on your face
i have to admit... i was smiling and laughing the whole video, just love the sound of the Detroit 2 strokes!
Just watched the movie Convoy a few weeks ago, again. Rubber duck. I am 62, started driving in 2004, grew up in Holland like Deboss. Never been around 2 stroke diesels.
I'd love to see them bring it through Timmy's drive thru!
The sound of these trucks take me back to the late 60's spending summer vacation with family in middle Tennessee. Living next to a sawmill I was able to see and hear almost every logging truck ever made. My favorite was the cabover GMC's.....but I loved hearing and seeing them all. Awesome truck! That had to be a blast to drive!
Cool truck! As a drag racer id say slide the axle ahead, lower the tire pressure, install an Allison Automatic, forget about the 2500 redline. That 8v92 silver series (I have one) was used in snow removal equipment and fire pumps with a single turbo at 750 hp. Later versions in the military were rated around 900. A two cycle is always on a compression stroke so they will tolerate much higher rpms without pulling a rod bolt etc. It has a fluid damper on the crank which allows for that 2900 rpm. It would probably wind 4,000. But dont take my word for it. Just past conversations, a few experiences and hooking up with a few NTPA pullers with them (12v71s) . 4,000 wouldn't be pushing a 71series very hard. I THINK a few pulling 12v71s were running 5,000 rpms. But the flywheel and clutch etc better be right. I know of one 8v71 that regularly wrapped the tach around 2x! However, those 92 silver series had "soda shaker" 2piece steel pistons that are heavier. Mabey thats why 71s wind so high??
No the 71 series has the same x head piston.
8V92 past 2700 ain't lasting long. 4000 on a 53 was called a one way motor, think you're talking foolish. 3000 out of 71s. Why automatic, can't you drive?
@@troyberdahl5922 anything much past 2300 rpm cam rollers start to bounce , any extended period much past that you need different valve springs.
@@ruxoneto6560 You mean you can't just throw in a set of 235s and crank the governor wide open?

I have a family friend who used to race his Kentworth dump truck and do 14's.
He'd race on Sunday and then de-tune it and use it on Monday for his excavation business. He still has it too, but now he races a different truck.
I think it’s either convoy or death proof.
Never mind Death proof came out in 2007. It’s convoy. 10-4 rubber duck!
I had one 1976 coast to coast. Nice mill she will walk. Make Kat's cry

what a cool guy. nothing fake about him.
I don't care what language you speak, Detroit 2 stroke *IS* the unifying language of cool!
I had was driving an MCI-9 with DD. Flying into Toronto. The butterfly cut the engine going down the QEW and I had to make my way over to the shoulder in the rain with tiny little mirrors and fogged up windows. We made it. The garage guys bring me a change off I was hoping for a new bus. Nope same series. So as I’m getting the replacement coach setup the mechanic resets the butterfly and starts up the bus. A cloud of black smoke billows out the tail pipe just after Erin Mills on the EB side. It covers both sides all six lanes in complete darkness. Then all of a sudden I look over and you see this pure white Ford econoline RV emerge from the smoke it was hilarious. But yet somewhat scary that a major accident didn’t occur. This was back in 2001. Somethings you will never forget.
Man that exhaust note is intoxicating.
That s*** eating grin on rich's face makes me laugh so hard
Great old truck. Drove Cabovers, favorite Int. 9670 ,9 speed OD. 350 formula. Miss the road. 84 year old retired RR. 🐻

"the intake valves"
what, you mean the pistons?
I think he meant exhaust, there is no intake valves and he didn't do the liners until the heads were sent off.
Convoy, 1978. Hell of a film honestly.
That was a cool rig👍 Can't believe the guy didn't call him before the Kijiji listing, he already wanted to buy it. FFS
After 6 months its a awful big assumption to think he still had his number, and if he did remember where he put it so he wouldn't forget where it was.
Maybe the seller knew it was already beat to death and didn't want to screw over a guy who already bought a truck from him?
I grew up in the Catskills in the 70's - 80's. That sound was an everyday backdrop with the milk tanker trucks/log trucks climbing those hills...and the Jakes coming down. I took it for granted and now I really miss it.
Lol i asked for a detroit 8v71 on stream and rich delivered!!!
And the acceleration is staggering to most people... It really catches you off-guard...
wait a second, shortly after 5:30 he said "the intake valves were cracked" did anyone else catch that?
@Andrew Crews I presume he means the intake vent slots in the liners ...if cracks spread from them it could let coolant past the liners and in to the cylinders...
Cracks in the head leading to the intake valves.
@@DEBOSSGARAGE they don't have Intake Valves as far as i know, i guess you mean that there was water getting ito the intake system though.
@@DEBOSSGARAGE Valves are exhaust only. Intake is through the sleeve at the base of the cylinder.
There is a shutdown butterfly valve on the intake of the blower. Water can get through that if it was cracked.
Im more a 71 series guy but that 92 qualifies as a screaming jimmy for sure for sure!
He should have talked with Scott from Bus Grease Monkey when he rebuilt the engine.
He does an okay job building stock motors, but he really learned a lot from the guy in Oregon that helped him after his engine dropped the valve. That guy has a race truck and knows the performance side. Also there’s a race team up in Washington that used to run a 16 V 92 in a truck on the Salt flats in Bonneville. Last time I talked to their engine guy they switched to a V16 MTU engine.
It's funny how this 2 stroke v8 detroit sounds like a subaru with fart can. For no good reason , I am fascinated by old 2 stroke detroits. No other diesel sounds anything like them. Very cool truck. Lot less bro smoke than expected too.
love the truck except for those super singles SHOULDA LEFT THE DUELS
I used to drive an old White 4000 Road Boss with this engine in it, fond memories and some hearing loss too.

my first car ran a 15.8 and I thought I was hot shit. This semi would probably gap that car 9/10 times because traction. Thanks for posting Deboss
Never seen a Detroit that didn't leak oil or use oil! Kinda like a Harley, illegal to own if it doesn't leak oil!
LOL, Harleys and two-stroke Jimmys don't leak oil, they're just marking their territory!
Well, all diesels leak oil, it's just whether or not you've replaced the gaskets with gaskets that aren't paper or cork trash that will leak again in another 200k.
I miss that damned sound. Practically all heavy military trucks had an 8V92 when I was in. Imagine that engine 2 feet behind your head!
Rich insist on pronouncing it "Duh-troit" when everyone knows it's pronounced "Dee-troit".
It's Dee-troy-it dammit!
I know giving it the abuse at 12:00 is a no go in this truck but my god was it funny. The gnashing of teeth and rev limiter bounce says it all ahaha
Rich please build a high power detroit hot rod truck next. Noone else but you is gonna do it
"revving too high" Boooooo. Truck is sweet though.
He had a point about that limiter though.
Hittin that is more embarrassing than completely missing a gear.
Both trucks are beautiful! The duck is from convoy still the best trucking movie ever released! Also I would say much more then 750hp because the loss in power with transmission and rear is alot more then it is in a car. I would definitely say over 1000hp and god know the torque! My pete makes 750hp and over 3000 foot pounds of torque to the wheels and I ran 17.8 in the 1/4 with that. Very cool truck buddy the kw is awesome as well the older the better! Thank you for sharing!
Infernal two-smoke beast.

What a work of art and the sound! That sound of the Detroit turbocharged is what dreams are made of!
Crazy machine ...the Pete ... Plus Detroit... Dynamite pure...

What I love most about the truck is definitely the little red hydraulic cap plugging an old mounting hole, thanks to that cherry GoPro angle
Very impracticable, but that makes it so much cooler! Like it alot! Nice!!! And watch the damn tach....
this damn thing moves and moves with a serious attitude
The angry duck is from the movies Convoy and Death Proof. Quentin Tarantino loved Convoy so much he put it in Death Proof.

Drag racing trucks is so interesting. It matters more about skill then anything.
You know what I realized? I've never seen or heard a detroit diesel 2 stroke in my life😡 to young. I missed that golden age.
Angry Duck brings back great childhood memories
When I drove like that my Dad wouldn't let me practice driving for awhile. It's best to take off easy especially when it isn't your rig.
Those 8v92 sound similar to flatplane v8s ! Loved it !
Not even close. Only reason it sounds the way it does is due to it being a 2 stroke
