- What map is this? A preview of the upcoming DCS: Sinai Map.
NOTE: Multi-Threading is enabled in this video, but DLSS is not (forgot to enable it).
Purchase DCS: F-16C Viper from:
www.digitalcom...
In this DCS: F-16C Viper update, we’ll talk about the primary new features coming to our Viper: new ALR-65M radar warning receiver features, an animated tail hook, and the alternate landing gear handle.
First, we’ll look at some of the new features coming to the Viper’s radar warning receiver, or RWR. Some of these items may have been introduced a bit earlier, so I’ll cover them all in this video.
In the center of the RWR display can be indications for the Search and Low Altitude functions that can be enabled next to your left knee. When the S is flashing on the Search button, acquisition radars are not displayed on the RWR display. This can help declutter the scope. But, if you press the button and the S becomes steady, acquisition radars will be displayed, and an S is displayed in the center of the RWR scope. When the Altitude button is pressed and LOW is displayed on it, low altitude/short-range ground air defense systems are prioritized, and L is displayed in the center of the scope. If LOW is not displayed, then air emitters will be in priority.
If both SEARCH and LOW are both enabled, then the S and L on the scope will mipple.
Also please note that symbol sizes have been slightly reduced and Early Warning Radars, or EWR, are now displayed as a dish symbol on the scope. To see them, the SEARCH button will need to be enabled.
New air and ground emitter visual and audio indications have also been updated. Newly detected emitters will pulsate for a few seconds between half size and full size to grab your attention. When a new airborne emitter is detected, you will hear a high frequency alert tone and when a ground emitter is first detected you will hear a lower alert tone.
When you are locked by an airborne or ground-based radar in tracking mode, the scope symbol will now have a square around the emitter code. As before, if the radar is guiding a missile, there will be a flashing circle around it too. Speaking of radar-guided missiles launches…
The missile launch tone is also now quite different. Rather than continue to sound if the radar is guiding a missile, it will now have a high-frequency launch alert tone of about seven beeps and then it will go silent for 15 seconds. If after 15 seconds a missile is still being radar-guided on you, the tone will repeat but at a lower tone. This pattern will continue until the radar is no longer in missile guidance mode.
The target separate button now correctly separates a group of over overlapping emitters along the azimuth rather than incorrectly spreading them along heading. Only the priority emitter will be at its “true” scope location.
Upon pressing the SYSTEM TEST BIT button, the RWR TEST BIT will run and display on the scope.
Later, once we have a library of the pulse repetition frequency, or PRF, tones for each radar and operating mode, we will add the handoff mode that allows you to cycle the priority emitter and hear the PRF audio of it.
In this next update we’ve hooked up a couple new items in the cockpit. The first is the tail hook. By setting the hook switch to the down position, the hook will be lowered. If then set to the up position, the hook will be slightly raised, but you’ll need to land and request a repair from the ground crew to fully raise it. Before you ask, we’d like to include the ground arrest system for airfields later, but there are currently no plans. I’m sure many of you will try it with the carrier though, good luck.
The other cockpit item is the alternate landing gear handle, left mouse button clicking will allow the landing gear to drop using the same air pressure bottle as the tail hook. Note that the pressure is limited, and you probably cannot do both.
Notes: This is the upcoming Sinai map with multi-threading. DLSS is not enabled (forgot to enable).
Looks great! Thank you for the update vid!
Using the tail number of a real airframe is a nice touch Wags :)
Will we be getting multi-threading with this update?
Looks amazing
This is GOLD (Multi-Threading it is, as VR, multiplayer, everything will have almost a new live)
Along with massive must-have bundles in shop for Lunar New Year.
Even owners of most modules (like me), can find something (maps and Ka-50 upgrade).
The Apache and the Viper are my main go to aircraft right now, so whenever there is a Viper update I'm extremely happy.
Looking forward to the update! I did not know what we were missing with the RWR, that looks like a big improvement.
Love ur content, you basically taught me to fly
There is much more to do with the rwr to get it to "realistic" status.
Much more is missing...
@@filipohr4076 thank you!
Nice update here… can’t wait to try it out! 🎉🎉
wow matt --- love the improvements to the RWR
I hope all DCS aircraft get realistic systems like this :)
Same here. Although I suspect the F16 might get replaced by the F15E for me.
@@Cesko_Plny_Fialovejch_Zmrdu does Razbam have issues with some of his other modules?
@@Cesko_Plny_Fialovejch_Zmrdu I've never played any of them that's why I asked wondering if they were worth getting or not until the issues are fixed (if ever).
@@Cesko_Plny_Fialovejch_Zmrdu Aerges? Are you serious? The F1 launch was one of the best EA launches we've ever had!
Very, very, very nice. The F-16 has become my favorite to fly, loving these updates. What a boost
I'm simply in awe. Watching you go from announcement through stages of development - and continuing on with these details is as impressive as it gets. Thank you so much for the effort, it is MUCH appreciated!
Good update Mister Wagner, thank to the team for their work. The Viper is coming along nicely.
Cool! I have been studying SEAD ops, and this is an awesome additionto the knowledge base
Nice! The Viper is my “go-to” jet.
Great news!
Regarding the airfield arresting cables; these make little sense until the Viper's damage model include Hydraulic system failures, such as damaged brake lines or a faulty Hydraulic system B.
The real questions remains: does it interact with the carrier wires? Guess I'll have to try!
Great to see more love for the Viper!
it's cool that you added Tel-Aviv's Azrieli towers in the Sinai map :)
Good looking update. It would be nice to get a “special for joystick” button assignment for the autopilot altitude mode switch (3-pos switch w/ center position off). We have one for lateral but not vertical autopilot for whatever reason.
If you look up the quaggles keybind injector project and the community keybind project, it’ll that (and many other) joystick abstractions
@@ias2424 interesting, thanks
"wags here" always gives me ghoosebumps
Incredibly impressive, Wags. The RWR stuff is really cool, the map's not bad either.
Awesome! Looking forward to the update, especially the enhancements to the RWR!
That RWR upgrade looks amazing, great job! Looking forward to trying it out
Love the improvement to the RWR! Another test to add to the startup routine too :) Noticed you had the ECM long pod carried, is this getting an actual use over the short pod or is it still just appearance with higher weight?
Not planned.
...And yes!! you can land on a Carrier!! Tested and confirmed!! It's lots of fun!!
Wow. Nice update coming! Thank you ED!
LOVE THESE NEW RWR SOUNDS!
As a separate note the NLG will NOT come down right away at 400 knots via the alternate gear handle. They built it smart since it has to work against the airstream and not with it like the mains so it won't even try to deploy via the alt gear handle till around 190.
Nevermind that almost 400 knots gear down is just a WEE bit of overspeed on the gear.
Great updates, more new things to learn. I think the rwr will be even more helpful now.
The tailhook will be functional now?
Well, looks like everyone is going to try doing carrier landings with this thing.
Looking forward to the update, the landing hook is sadly useless until we get the arresting system.
Until we don´t get an airffield with arresting wire i´m sure one of the talented users will develop a workaround :) Like the Blue Angels mod which give the option of stow/unstow the boarding ladder of the Hornet with a key press (something i wish since day one of the Hornet). Eager for the next update, keep up the outstanding work. Thank you.
Nice work, thank you! Love the map and can't wait to get the multi threading!
Looking forward to debuting the Sea Viper next update.
My F16 love grows every day. Like hooking up with an old flame
Well........ at least we got the supercarriers cables to try the hook out on!
So jazzed over this Wags
Was one of 5 eng on the ALR-67 system in 86ish...system in some version on most Aircraft...we'll done!!
love the new great beeping noises
BARRIER, Barrier, Barrier! :P
Thanks, this update is amazing, and I love the job you are doing ... please keep it up!
Would be possible to ahve a set of training missions for this new improvements ? ( I know, I'm asking a lot , so if it's not possibe, no prob ).
The F-16 is truly an amzing aircraft, and you have done an amazing job indeed in replicating it.
I saw the hornet have a similar update, with new RAW ( also there, I'll need to study ).
About HARMs , if I can: the two planes have a different mode of use those ( Viper with no HTS and Hornet ) ... is it correct as it is ( so, does the hornet have some system that assists the HARM , unlike the Viper when it does not have the HTS ) or does the Hornet have a simple system for now ?
( sorry, just curious ).
Again, you are doing a terrific job, keep it up. Thanks for this game :D
Getting multithreading will help more to be honest right now would have been great to have but we at least have a bit of more information to it
Multithreading will not help you prioritise or detect radar emitters.
Nice! Is the tailhook just pleasantly animated or does it enable carrier landings for those of us with tendencies towards idiocy?
so I love the F-16 it's awesome but using a targeting pod and Mavericks you used to bore sight them once and then they would look at the targeting pod point of interest , now they seem to randomly point all over the shop ??
Wait for next update.
@@MattWagner rgr 👍
Very nice additions, Wags!
Hey wags great vid, is there the possibility of the cockpit clamps getting looked at? Its such a tiny fix but its a big detail.
I seriously can't stop looking at them ever since I found out. I dream of the day when those start turning
Agree!!!
Viper is great, but Sinai map.... 😍
Team DCS....
Keep up the great work...Bravo...👍👍👏👏
we need mavrick f16 fixes with tgp.
Multi threading. Two weeks away, wahoooooooo 🎉
Important point: you do NOT catch the arresting gear in the Viper at the approach end of the runway. It does NOT function like the Hornet. The hook is designed to stop the aircraft in the event of a hydraulic failure and is to be used to catch arresting gear at the DEPARTURE end of the runway. It is NOT designed to allow the aircraft to stop immediately after landing.
its gonna get misused for carrier landings anyways
@@zahnatom i think you mean repurposed
@@zahnatom would be funny in the eventual dynamic campaign, if you did that and the plane was out of inventory for a while to represent it having to be picked up from the carrier by crane (can't launch a viper from a carrier), transported to an airfield, and repaired for the structural damage caused by the sudden stop. =)
@@jubuttib I wouldn't say you can't launch a viper off a carrier. Took off with the Hornet yesterday without catapult. Full afterburner from about elevator 1 😂. But yes I agree. People WILL land it on carriers, and it would be cool if either the Hook snapped because it's not designed for that kind of deceleration or it would damage the aircraft and take it out for a while.
@@Kathlanus Arguably you probably couldn't launch it AFTER the landing. =)
Hi! Chose the Pre mode assembled with the Maverick rocket. But for some reason, my WPN does not agree with the targeted container. In TGP I choose the target. I switch between sensors, I press TMS up briefly. But WPN is generally somewhere in the sides. In the VIS protocol, everything works. What could be wrong?
this is a known problem, hopefully it will be fixed in the update.
Wags says it will be fixed. I've noticed the issue as well
That's due to misalignment which is simulated. When you boresight mavericks with tgp, all is good.
@Blaqjack there's a bug right now. No matter how you try, the mavs won't align with the tgp.
Thanks man, you guys are really doing great job adding new features to the viper. Can’t wait to have it fully implemented.
The F-16 is great, but improve the damage model at least enough so that the pilot doesn't die from any hit. Out of 10 kills on the server, you will only be able to catapult once.
Can't wait to use that tail hook in carrier ops! 😁
Why would you want to do something that is impossible in real life?
ED is the best. cant wait to play again soon tm. havent played since before jdams came to f16
so you can carrier land with the viper now?
Amazing!!
I've read a little bit about this and have seen I'm not the only one with missing textures for the Vipers External Wing Fuel tanks, I've tried to replace the files and reinstall the game (this is also for the default liveries) but nothing seems to work
This is always a case of user mod.
Nice updates Matt, thx
awesome sir. thanks
It would be fantastic if we could get any news on making ED cockpits NVIS compatible since currently the buttons do nothing on the F-16 and hasn't been working on the A-10C since forever as far as I know.
Nice! Thank you and ED!
Nice upgrade on the RWR display but I am not sure about missile launch sound going silent for 15s while warhead still approaches me at Mach 6. I like to use F16 in SEAD missions like from Dan Hampton's book Viper Pilot. Using VR I don't look at the cockpit while manuvering so sound going off indicated that SAM's tracking was lost.
You'll have to complain to Lockheed Martin. Sorry.
So we'll see a lot of Vipers on Carriers soon?
After patch drops in 3….2…1….
What I wait for are Conformal Fuel Tanks on official module with all hard points under the wings available for ordnance.
That would not be accurate for this version.
Wags, Can we land the F16 on the carrier with the hook?
Whenever I press TMS up to get a point lock and wait for the handoff to the Maverick, SOI is switched the the right MFD with the maverick. Any solutions? This also means that point and area track havent been working for me. Ive checked key bindings.
Please use our forum to post a short replay track so we can see where you are going wrong.
Nice video and updates, but that popping in of the buildings at 6.22 was really bad viewing, it happens on all maps even with distance set to max
Thanks Matt. Question: I know we SHOULDN'T, but CAN we capture the Hook for the F16 on a carrier, or is that not modeled?
Have fun with that.
@@MattWagner is that a yes or a no?🥺
@@varzat6416 It's a "try and die" 😅
@@Muhfuckaa Definitly going to waste some tax money in attempting it hehe
@@MattWagner I have a question - is it intentional that when I tried to repair the F-16 on the carrier to re-stow the hook, the plane was instead pushed off the deck?
Tbh I genuinely can't tell whether it's a bug or an intentional feature because I suspect that's exactly what the carrier crew would want to do if this happened for real.
Is there any plan for changing to contrast lock for TGP from object lock?
Does any aircraft have an rwr that can slave a radar track to a threat in dcs?
0:23 Also called "raw gear"?
Don’t underestimate the hook I used it to land on a carrier!!
Well, that's great, all those upgrades to the RWR system, but still no fix to anti-skid feature? It's hard to land without differential brakes.
Works here. If you have an issue, please use our forms and create a report with a track file.
@@MattWagner Thanks for reply, I may have skipped the info of the anti-skid update. I got used to land with diferential brakes so I may have missed it.
QUESTION: will there be any changes to how threat emitters will appear in the JHMCS?
That would not be accurate.
@@MattWagner -- ok thx
Dear Sir,
Can we expect to remove of terrain objects shimmering soon? It is present even in this video of yours.
Best regards,
Ath I'm sad I'm really waiting for that airfield arresting system
does the high pitch missile tone play for all new launches from different emitters? and can it tell if an emitter that launched once just launched again?
I didnt mind the rwr screaming at me for the complete duration of on incoming missile. I get too confortable without it.
Wags, how significant is the performance improvement with multi threading?
YMMV, but generally significant improvement in large missions. I kept my FPS display on in the last two videos.
@@MattWagner My guess, at least for us VR-only (and forever) types, on average ~20-25%, BUT much smooother. A plus, and long awaited. And I'm sure over time it will improve. Hopefully ppl aren't expecting miracles (I know, I'm crazy).
@@flightsimstuff5417 Delta for multi-threading will depend a lot of the size of the mission and the delta for DLSS will depend a lot on being CPU limited or not.
@@MattWagner Yup. I "W.A.G."'d it with that in mind from past experience. With nothing going on (low object count) more, throwing everything in there willy-nilly (not 'scheduling stuff for us scripters) something lower. Thanks for the work.
does the tailhook mean we can finally land this on a carrier? (video talked about airfield arresting system)
Can the tail hook be used to land on an aircraft carrier?
Have fun with that.
Love all the new stuff. But why make the hook if you aren't gonna do the barrier systems that it uses... I get it's a low hanging fruit to do but at this point it's useless to have even modeled it imo
any idea if the pw 229 coming to the f16 as an engine option? I love the pneumatic nozzle noise
Not planned, this is a Block 50, not a 52.
Hey Matt. I'm a huge fan. I just have 1 question. The F16's mavericks haven't been aligning with the targeting pod on open beta. Do you know if this will be fixed in the coming update?
Planned to, yes.
@@MattWagner Thank you. Have a nice day. 👍
When can we expect an MMC update? Like an ATD vs the B-Scope
That would not be accurate for 4.2.
Hi, any plans to overhaul the angular resolution/accuracy of the RWRs of the 4th gens to bring them closer to the modeling of for example the F14?
actually... from speaking with real world military pilots, RWR systems are far far less "accurate" than you would expect
everyone in the formation getting launch indications, for example
very low resolution (you know the emitter is on "that side" of the aircraft - but you can't tell if you are actually beaming or notching, so for safety sake they turn a whole 45degs past the indicated azimuth (with G and chaff) to attempt to break lock
etc etc
also.. no guarantee that your RWR will even display a threat
real world isn't necessarily "all that"
the simulated world has it muuuuuch better in some cases
@@SDsc0rch well yes.. they are way too accurate compared to the more in-depth modelling thats present in the 14. We are both on the same team.
@@somethingsimple6413 - ah! rgr that that!
I misunderstood then :)
Gonna try to land it on the carrier and see what the hook does
Are those also changes in the lighting model, or is the new look just a result of the new terrain being shown?
No change.
@@MattWagner interesting!
How many are going to try and land on a carrier with the hook now lol
is that FPS counter in the top-left teasing multi-threading & vulcan? 120+FPS? ....in DCS?!? 0_o
Just MT.
When Viper N Block70+ version ?
Perhaps in 2050.
@@MattWagner Cool!🙂 Better late than never, I guess...
Is the multi-threading coming this next update?
out of all the modules.. this one module is the one I do not have yet
Thanks for letting all of us know!
@@mortlet5180 I've seen many have it! It definitely looks fun. Next one forsure
I kinda like when the missile warning alert screams at me. That way when it goes silent i know im clear. 15 seconds of silence leaves me wondering if im still being tracked
Was thinking along the same lines, A missile can cover a lot of distance in 15 seconds
Please feel free to share your concerns with Lockheed Martin.
Can you guys please fix the maverick boresight and pre? Thanks!
Already fixed internally. Please wait for a future update.
@@MattWagner Thanks for the reply! Looking forward to it.
Love it❤Will the vcache 7950x3d be properly supported?
No.
Alternate gear would probably not manage to extend NLG just below 400 knots 😵
Dear Matt, how much does the dlss degrade image quality?
It will depend on your scale and sharpness settings.
Will the tailhook work with carrier arrester cables?
You'll get to find out soon.
nice! thx
Absolutely loving these changes!! But I just have a few questions;
Is there at all a plan to emolument the Sniper Pod, or the GBU-54, or the GBU-39 on then viper?
Sniper pod is planned after early access, and both of those bombs are sadly not correct for this version according to ED
Might as well just use the gpu12 instead of the 54
Correct, thanks.
i wish they would add CFT and chute too
That would be inaccurate for this version of the F-16.
Hey Wags - are you using TIR or TOBI? Is your profile downloadable somewhere? Thanks!
TIR 5
Hey Waaaaaags.
-Everyone
Yay
would love to play this but slightly scared of the depth of it.
You can just learn it in bite sized chunks. Learn to start it first. Then taxi around. Then takeoff, land, etc. before you even touch any of the weapon systems. Doesn’t matter if you crash a lot. It’s a sim! 😊
@@ratsac thank you for the advice
