the ghost resorts - chapter 4: Super Saint-Bernard

- The fourth in the Ghost Resort series, the story of Super Saint-Bernard is intimately linked to blackcrows. The brand's founders often crossed the border to enjoy its undeniable charms, thanks to its excellent off-piste possibilities and snow cover at the start and end of winter. But it was also the site of the first blackcrows ski tests, notably through the Alp & Ride event. So it was with great emotion that this new episode was produced.
Five blackcrows’ skiers, including co-founder Camille Jaccoux, set off to explore the memories of this small resort on the border between Switzerland and Italy. A place steeped in history, this documentary traces the resort from its beginnings in 1963 to its definitive closure in 2010. Carefree joys and poignant melancholy come together in interviews and archive footage, but there's no trace of regret in this place, now untouched by human activity. The blackcrows skiers provide us with dazzling proof of this with beautiful powder images shot in this mythical free-skiing spot.
A relic of a world that was not yet super-connected or super-tracked, the Super Saint-Bernard station was born of a simple vision: to link the road from Bourg Saint-Bernard, at 1932 meters, to the Col de Menouve, at 2,775 meters. Inaugurated in 1963, a year before the opening of the Grand Saint-Bernard tunnel, the station benefited from this new crossing point between France and Italy. As such, it represented the first Swiss infrastructure for motorists arriving from Italy.
For 47 years, the small resort of Super Saint-Bernard became Le Super, delighting families on both sides of the border. Its small north-facing ski area was a gateway to numerous off-piste itineraries, making it a powder Eldorado for several generations of freeskiers. Unfortunately, despite its altitude and excellent snow conditions, the resort was too isolated and too small to modernize its facilities, and was forced to close in 2010. So long Le Super, you remain a Super souvenir.

What a fantastic feature of a wonderful ski hill with such a beautiful story. I love the end line, "You want to open it again? lower the price of cigarettes in switzerland" really brings home the spirit.
Glad to see people still skinning up and enjoying the mountain.
Amazing guys. 10/10
Man, these short films are just amazing. Love them all.
I skied here in 1997. Very cool. There was a total of 8 people skiing there that day and a very inebriated liftie.
did ski there as a kid, nice memories, thank you ❤
Beautiful. This video is incredible and the end is so on point! The thick accent of Mr. Bertin is the cherry on top (do I spy some Venetian heritage perhaps? sounds like it). Bravo Black Crows
another masterpiece. Wonderful storytelling with a great quote at the end. Keep up the good work
I remember skiing there when I was 18 and it was pretty cool to be able to ski one month before the main ski resorts opened for winter season
Merci blackcrows
You guys should do a tribute ski called cigarettes for this place.
"Cigarettes de contrebande"😢😅
I am a Swiss fan of ropeways and also of abandoned ropeways(Haikyo in Japan). Reports 3 and 4 in Switzerland and Japan are great.
Congratulations, great work !
I walked up and took pictures in July 2019
Très bien fait…chapeau
Fantastic..! I had the pleasure of skiing at Super Saint-Bernard in Jan-Feb 1995, when the snow conditions were amazing. We drove up from Verbier a few times in the middle of the week, and had the place pretty much to ourselves. One particular morning we arrived when the pisteurs were just opening the tunnel to reach the "further" valley from the cabin lift. We helped the guys shovel the passage open and... had the whole powder valley to ourselves for several runs! Bliss. Sad to see the place all trashed now. But at least the rando skiiers have a great playground!
lol the customs employee just going into Switzerland to ski everyday instead of checking passports is great
LA conclusion est magnifique🤣
ive been waiting for soooo long, those vids are epic!!!
Quelle montagne/installation mythique qui me manque...
What a pleasure to discover this wonderful video ! Having the chance to learn and practice skiing there for more than 10 years, it brings a lot of memories back, thank you Black Crows !
I’ve never found anything like crossing the tunnel to join « La Piste Noire » in another resort, it was unique.
Super beautiful!
superbe. on en veut plus !
I skied there in 2007. I ever wanted to go there again. Thanks for this Video 🤙🏻
favorite ski series and it's not even close
Super documentaire ! Merci beaucoup!
I loved, Super St., always poppped in when I was near, the little, shiny steel mini telecabines were perfect for just pulling out a book and having a nice read on a slow lift between beautiful lines!
Superbe réalisation avec de beaux plans !
Super vidéo merci beaucoup 🤩😍
Great film. Thank you!
Magnificent! Thank you, thank you!!
A true masterpiece
oh that was amazing...
Magnifique
Love this! Been waiting for it
Loved the documentary ❤
Genial!!!!!! Besou!
Fantastic video!!
Like all the episodes, simply epic!
Magnifique vidéo, encore une fois ! Triste histoire mais très beau docu.
Incroyable, super documenaire!!!! Quelle réal, quel super témoignages, bravo!
Merveilleux.
Loved skiing there and going down the Italian side to the Croix blanch for a fantastic lunch, was a seasonal tradition with our family friends to come over from Verbier at least twice a season
So good.
Belle vidéo :)
Solid business model 🤠 The terrain looks amazing as well.
Sorry to see. Did my first alpine skiing there, back in 1980” 🎉😊. Did freeriding on 200cm Giant Slamon ski’s from Dynastar.
Why not turn it into a mtb freeride spot/bikepark for summer? Beautiful film, sad story...
I know this place! Skied there back in 2008.
And we also skied to Italy at the end of the day and got back by bus.
De bons souvenirs...
beautiful
The station is featured in the swiss TV show "Tschugger" as the hide out of coke smuggling ski instructors.
🔥🔥🔥
wow
Do we think nowadays this station could have hung on thanks to the Magic Pass..?
I wonder if some corporation bought the place and remodeled it, if that would be a good thing or a loss of a Great Resort?
🇨🇭❤️
Its a shame that the builings and remains were not removed a long time ago. To show the mountains respect and care, all remaisn of the old rusty and greasy objects should be relentlessly removed at the cost of the past beneficiarie/ owners. The more resorts are removed the better for those who enjoy the mountains without the noise, the grease, the waste of energy and destruction of the views. Walk up by yourself and you will feel it!
That is actually the law, you have to remove it. But if everybody is bankrupt, difficult to find the 3-4 kCHF to dismantle it.
If you want to make a donation for that, go for it !
Challenging to read white lettering subtitles over video of white snow..... great frickin movie though!
