Unfortunately, it is illegal to own a dingo in QLD and SA. I assume if you owned a wildlife park then you may be able to get a permit of some sort for them. I know they have dingoes at the Australia Zoo and other wildlife parks in QLD. Owning a wildlife park would be a lot of work though, just to own a dingo.
Thank you- great video, I am into stray dogs- first one but it was hard, a Siberian wolfdog with a lot of energy. Then he found another stray dog, also a boy, and now they wrestling/ playing together and it's a lot easier with 2 dogs that's for sure- and of course, they do not like to be single. I learn a lot by watching dingo videos, dogs are not dingos and dingos are not dogs but the difference is not big. and, as you say, it makes me happy to be together with them, we are a team and it's fun.
I miss getting to play with dingos and watch their weird behavior. Really hope I get to have a new guinea singing dog for the breeding program one day.
As far a I know Kelpies were once believed to have dingo DNA but now scientists say there is no genetic evidence that shows kelpies have any dingo DNA. I copied the following from a Google search: Summary: Researchers have found no genetic evidence that the iconic Australian kelpie shares canine ancestry with a dingo, despite Australian bush myth. I assume it's the same for a cattle dogs but I don't know for sure. From what I just read they are a mix of Dalmatians, Collies, and Kelpies maybe dingo but as I just mentioned scientists say there are no dingo DNA markers in a Kelpie. I do know dingoes are capable of breeding with other dogs but it doesn't happen as often in the wild as people 1st believed. If you were to do the breeding that you suggested you would have a Blue Merle Dingo hybrid not a Australian cattle dog.

We really did find getting a 2nd helped to mange their energy. It only takes a little extra effort for the 2 because we were already doing everything for Rusty. We had to prepare his food now we do it at the same time. We had to wash his bedding now we do both at the same time. We had to walk him now we walk both at the same time. So yes it's a bit more work but not much different from what we had to do and I'm sure Rusty is now happier and healthier for it. they are both cheeky but they both aim to please. For example they both started wrestling in the house yesterday so I said "outside" in a stern voice and they both stopped looked at me for a second then right outside to keep playing, it was hilarious.
They really are. This video is a year old now and I am please to say they are both still with us and going strong. They have settled in well and continue to impress me every day.
Hahaha we have been very lucky, both boys have settled in so well. We still have to keep an eye on things over the next year or 2 as we have been told they may turn against each other when Jalba turns 3 which happens this September. I will be posting more dingo content in the coming months to keep everyone informed.
I have a blond kelpie, and everyone around my little town says she is a dingo, but in looking carefully at yours I am certain that she is a kelpie. Mind you, she isn't that different from your animals. She has all the smarts of a kelpie and is adorable, just like your dingos. i do enjoy watching you, thanks. ps ... I have always rapid nibbled my dogs' necks and cheeks, they have all loved it and go quite meditative when I do it.
We do about 5 to 7ks free running next to the car through the bush then a swim in the dam regularly do long bush walks aswell quite often they will catch a rabbit or 2 also
Oh yes thank you for the comments. I love this because I want to learn as much as I can. Ours do vomit on occasion we always thought that was from something they had eaten outside. We were told to feed them once a day and weigh their food every night. They get 250g of roo or emu. They also get 2 chicken thighs. We were also recommended to give them a wild canine kibble by the WA dingo foundation because it has enzymes in it to help them break down food so they get some of that as well. All up their food ends up weighing about 650 to 700 grams depending on the size of the chicken thighs. We have taken them to the vet 4 times over the last 12 months to monitor their weight and it only ever changes about 1 or 200 grams so we figured we were on track. Rusty is always around 20.3kg or 20.5kg. Jalba is always 19.4kg to 19.6kg we figure because his tail is missing. They do get some stuff during the day as well but not every day. We give them things like roo ears or like 6 inch sections of roo tail every now and then. How do you feed yours?

My girl is a dingo hybrid and on the smaller side, the rescue + vet i took her to said she would be fine with commercial pet food as long as I found the right feed for her. When I adopted her she was soo underweight and only weighed around 15kg. You could see all her ribs and hip bones on her flank. So I decided that a good quality kibble would be the most efficient way to get her up to weight since it's the most nutritionally dense. My other dog is on Hill's Science Diet chicken because she has a sensitive stomach, so I put her on the same food and I top it up with chicken mince. She seems to be doing well on it, and has gained a lot of weight already. The vet said she'll always be on the leaner side since she's such a tiny girl. I haven't weighted her since her first vet trip but I'd assume she's around 17-18kg now!

They wouldn't make good alarm or protection dogs. Their natural instinct is self preservation. Not that they are scared of people just always cautious before doing anything. They have attacked adults (people) large boars and even water buffalo in the wild but as a pack. They want to stay fit and healthy to hunt another day so will only tackle large prey when they have the numbers. Some people do hunt with them but they have poor recall. Not that they would run away from their family but they would come back when they were ready on their terms. Rusty got away from me once and went after a Kangaroo when I accidentally drop his lead. I called and called but nothing. 20min later I thought what if I howl. I howled 3 times and he came running back to me with his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth and a big smile on his face like he had just had the time of his life. I think people that hunt with them have other domestic dogs with recall that helps cos the Dingo goes with the pack.

Could someone breed a blue merle, a dingo, and successfully have a 1st generation Australian cattle dog?

I appreciate that thank you. Kelpies do look very similar to dingoes probably the closest looking out of any dog I know.

@@intrepidworld thank you. This is a behavior of semi domesticated dog. A good companion, but not an assistant or a faithful cooperator.
