I wish SD would put out an album with these unreleased songs like Can't Hide, Lost and Found, Got Nothin Comin, The Lost Tracks, what a collection. What a great band, Mike Ness is as good as any artist ever about telling life stories to great music!. Unbelievable ability to put into music what we've all gone through at some point in our life.
"Diamond In The Rough" off the album Hard Times & Nursery Rhymes is basically this song rewritten. Appreciate the more bluesy tone of this demo though.
Discovered SocialD in 1984. Am 69 years old and still blasting old and new SD. Uniquely primal Americana rock and roll storytelling without losing incredibly memorable melodies. A place near the top of punk rock history. 😮
This along with Reach For the Sky, and Winners and Losers, should be the theme songs in my sobriety... I'm so grateful for artists that sing about the truths in their lives. I hope they realize how many of us they have helped!!!
This song and basicaly all the other Social Distortion songs has got me through so much stuff: depression, an addiction, a breakup, family problems, and more. I listen to this song and look back, and i still love this song and Social D.
Alot of social distortion songs fit all us very well. At least thats why i like social distortion alot, not just because of their good rythem and soulful music but because i can relate to mike ness's lyrics and can feel the sincerity in his music.
literally saved my life. ive seen Mike in concert and there is no one like him and Soc D. i owe him my life dragging myself out of the gutter to live another day
I saw in Pittsburgh. Loved him. Great concert. Years later the liberal mfsb beating a fan who supports Trump as I do. Couldn't keep his cksng WEST COAST LIBERAL MOUTH SHUT! I pay big concert money to see a band, I don't want to listen 4 a half hour about him voicing politics. I want the music from one of the most talented singer songwriters of my generation. So shut the fck up, and sing what made me luv you.
I listened to Social Distortion throughout my active addiction, and now that I'm recovery Mike Ness's lyrics hit home for me on such a deeper level. Gotta respect the man for his talents as well as his own journey in recovery.
Same here. Finally found sustained sobriety at 69 years old, having started my in and out drunken journey back in 1977. Ten years sober today. Thirty-nine years with SocialD.
Thank you for sharing the Lost Tracks. This was the framework to what became Diamond in the Rough, Alot of the lyrics and you can hear part of the melody in this song. Mike and SD never seize to amaze me, 30+ years of songs that anyone can relate to on any level. Can't wait to see them live Jan 3rd in SD :)
Im with you on that...i was in a dark time and they pulled me out of hell out of the belief that i was worthless and so was life I owe my life to them and it feels good to see im not the only one! cheers!
I've been lost and not found. Seems like I just can't shake my demons off my back. Tried many times and I am tired o trying. God Bless all of you who have been found.
Lucky yo, it would be nice if they came to St. Louis, mo. Been wanting to see social Distortion live forever now. But stl, doesn't seem to get much love these days.v
Dam do I like this song and Dope Fiend Blues. They just get me into the zone were I can work away on the computer. Really all of Mike's stuff does that.
anyone notice the lyrics " I was looking for somethin' Anything at all. Something to belive in. Written on the bathroom wall" is the same lyrics from SD's Diamond in the Rough? same exact lyrics
I didn`t even know about this song... cool. yeah, I checked it. another line is the same: "There was a time when, I could not say I got a reason to live another day." that`s also in "diamond in the Rough"... but hey, I like both songs :) social d. just kicks ass!
hi ya,s this somes up my ONGOING battle with mental illness PTSD & Bi polar mostly... The BLACK MOODS lost... The swings FOUND, Ive been told NEVER EVER.... Give up... There are people out there that can help, They might not BE THERE STRAGHT AWAY, Thats when SD WORKS ... OVERTIME FOR ME, PTSD, BIPOLAR & SUICIDE SURVIVER, I hope this helps ANYONE with ALL THE SHIT ive been thru. & Most importantly thank u Mike & the SD CREW🎵🎵🎵 PLAY IT LOUD & PLAY IT PROUD
You should toss those ones up too, my track list is getting monotonous and needs some new tracks. Especially the other "dope fiend blues" version, that song is deadly.
I know what your saying, I will take both. Without JC, who knows how we would see Social D today. Ness is a living legend...JC and Ness fall from the same tree. Both rare and incredible. Both similar yet carry their own.....
@fireninja242 I agree. That's just how much melody changes the vibe & meaning. But the lyrics and words are pretty much the same, just arranged a little different......
I love this song, I just found it the other day and I've been listening to it non-stop. The chords sound like they would be pretty simple to play and I was wondering if anyone knew them? Thanks! (:

By time they come out with a new album, been 8 long years and I AGREE, TONS of great unreleased songs that could make a sweet new album
Mike Ness is too much of an asshole to do what the fans want
"Diamond In The Rough" off the album Hard Times & Nursery Rhymes is basically this song rewritten. Appreciate the more bluesy tone of this demo though.

It's on the album lost tracks $60 album that's sold out lol!
All time favourite band. 36 years of honest and straight from the heart stuff. I'm thankful they've always been in my life.
Same. Their music helped me out in some rough spots earlier in my life. Could relate to their music so much. This is real music.
Best ever band of My Life...seems new whenever I hear..first song 84

Congrats, man. Ten years sober here and have always loved Mike Ness's attachment to that second chance gift and reality.
Social D has always been there for me
Social studies u know....
Man you can feel the pain in this song. One of my favorite Social D tracks.
Its beautiful

Reminds my of that qoute:
"Suffering passes, but the fact of having suffered never passes." Leon Bloy
Tough saying
I've been lost and not found. Seems like I just can't shake my demons off my back. Tried many times and I am tired o trying. God Bless all of you who have been found.
Message me any time
Great song
A level on their own! Simple as that
So many memories with that music. I cannot even explain
So excited I got my ticket yesterday march 1 in Orange County
Lucky yo, it would be nice if they came to St. Louis, mo. Been wanting to see social Distortion live forever now. But stl, doesn't seem to get much love these days.v
Great song and good job on the slideshow
+Chris Harvey Thanks : )
Questions that I employed.priceless my brother's & sisters.
Dam do I like this song and Dope Fiend Blues. They just get me into the zone were I can work away on the computer. Really all of Mike's stuff does that.
Social D are always so ahead of the pack. Superb track by a quality band.
Finally a good song with NO dislikes.

justo really started to listening to these guys man they real good
been i listen them seince 1991. songs are very deep and take to place humble myself.
Also Tom Petty's Last Dance with Mary Jane and the second part of The Black Keys' Little Black Submarines. It's a very common chord progression. :)
Old time rock&roll since 1979
Thanks for the upload of a great song.
Social D got alot of great songs that is not realsed, its realy sad thing because some of the best songs of SD is songs that never will be on a record
as always......Great .......I think I'm their biggest fan
I love this!!! ❤👏
Mike ness i GREAT song writer.
Cant wait for their concert here in Norway
This is a great song!
anyone notice the lyrics "
I was looking for somethin'
Anything at all.
Something to belive in. Written on the bathroom wall" is the same lyrics from SD's Diamond in the Rough? same exact lyrics
I can feel the distortion
In love with this song
Very nice song!!!!
I would love to see "A Diamond in the Rough" on the new record coming out this Fall!
Eu queria ouvir essa.musica com.legenda em portugues mais nao tem
Wish I knew about this band years ago.
well now you do . enjoy! ;)
Another great song from S.D.
Bad ass song they should have this one in the lost tracks
Mike Ness is mix of Hank Williams and Johnny Cash playing through a Marshall Bassman Amp...uniquely punk, uniquely country, uniquely SoCal.
no problem ;)
there are some songs, which people might not know, e.g. "alone and forsaken" or an alternative version of crown of thornes...
yeah, I know, I also like these too versions :)
I`ve thought about uploading some, but I guess I will upload some other songs soon.
Cool song. Parts of it made their ways into Diamond In The Rough. I wonder if he rewrote it because it sounded like Mary Jane's Last Dance.
I didn`t even know about this song... cool.
yeah, I checked it. another line is the same:
"There was a time when, I could not say
I got a reason to live another day."
that`s also in "diamond in the Rough"...
but hey, I like both songs :)
social d. just kicks ass!
kick ass song
Good song!! Fits me well
Therapy. My fab song
I’m very melancholic with this song and the covers album are so great🔥
Amen
God bless social D
guter song,danke fürs hochladen
fukn great song never gets old
The best thing you can do when you're drunk is listening to music
The best thing you can do is listen to music.

Of what album is this song?
mhm, I might upload another song.
don`t expect a great video, it`s all about the music^^
I'll take Social D any day over Cash anyday, real pure slice of americana right here, so deep
I know what your saying, I will take both. Without JC, who knows how we would see Social D today. Ness is a living legend...JC and Ness fall from the same tree. Both rare and incredible. Both similar yet carry their own.....
j
Johnny do you realize Cash is one of Ness' MAIN hero's?
Indeed
SD's Ring of Fire is better than Mr. Cash's. Fight me.
Grate sound want to learn it
This is so fucking awesome song and words in it ;)
Social Distortion for ever!!!
THANK YOU SOCIAL D. MIKE NESS 2 HAVE YOU IN THIS LIFE💛💝💜❣💖💗💫💥💣💀☻💩👆👇❤💕
Therapy !

This is one of those songs, where you turn the volume up and just drive with no real destination
so true :)
not bad for remind of my memory. like.
👏
It`s on a bootleg from 1994, called "Lost Tracks Vol. 2 ".
Anyone found this one on spotify?
yeah, I have the bootleg (or demo version, I don`t know exactly) from 1994.
songs like "do it again" or "love me tonight".
and also some other versions of "dope fiend blues" or "don`t drag me down".
do you know them?
Great band*
The first part is Last Dance With Mary Jane
It's surprisingly common to accidentally reinvent a Tom Petty Song.
Everclear has a similar effect on guitar players.
they use some of these lyrics in dimond in the rough! love this song thanks for sharing
don`t know what was wrong yesterday, I hope you got my message dude.
Why is this not on spotify?
Cause it isn't a official track they released yet... keyword yet
@@Thehotrodgamer yep. Maybe someday... I am waiting for a new album by social d.... well, or anything new : )
@badleech it's honestly the best thing they have put out since 1992.
it`s on a bootleg called "lost tracks vol. 2"
it`s not an official release.
It's from an old bootleg called "lost tracks".
From... 1996 or something.
On which CD is this song? I really like it!!
This is unrealesed song that make ness made.. But this is a great song ever made
I know 12yrs late, but it’s on Lost Tracks
@@TheALyon8 Haha! We will write again in 2035 ;)
@@WayfaringStranger309 Haha
None better few compare
no problem ;)
Fuck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
any ideas what the chords might be for this?
A minor - C - G - D maybe? Not 100% sure
This song is not available on spotify 😑
me too ;)
what album is this on?
I highly doubt this, I found it somewhere on the internet a long time ago...
Lyrically, I imagine this is an early version of Diamond in the Rough.
I think they do...
