  • In this video, one of Australia's favourite parenting authors Maggie Dent, "queen of common sense", talks about parental anger and how you can defuse it.
Maggie demonstrates her "Parental Pause", simple steps to get a handle on things when you're losing it with your kids.
She reminds us to pause, ground ourselves and see things through our children's eyes and remind ourselves that we are their safe base.

So glad to have found your channel. I'm going to practice this starting today. We have a rooster in our home, so my short fuse isn't a good combo. I'm realizing how badly I need to change if I want to have a relationship with my 4 y.o. boy. He needs more love from me in every circumstance we run into. NO MORE tough-guy parenting from me! Thank you Maggie!

Love that you mentioned bending your knees. Just the image of doing this makes me feel as though I will be able to do this. I have tried other stop and breathe techniques which just haven't helped to change my state in a quick enough way to be able to deal with situations when I need to get it together quickly. Thanks Maggie!

I love how short and informative your videos are! I too will watch some of these weekly to embed them in my brain and heart. I know somewhere deep down in my mothers heart she loves me but growing up I always felt like a nuisance or mistake to her and I dont want our children to ever feel that way. And unfortunetly this past year Iv realized that my reactions just might be mimicking those of my mother. And this apple right here wants to fall as far as I can away from that tree! For good reasons. 😀
