    Regarding "opportunities for improvement".... I wish both Numskull and New Wave Toys would've used USB-C charging ports instead of micro USB.

    The quarter arcades are so damn cute!
    Bubble bobble is no exception. Was my favorite game as a kid. They did the quarter arcade justice with this one!
    The sounds on this is so crisp and beautiful

      Oh yeah - the sound is most excellent on this unit! Thanks for watching! Keep up the great work on your channel!

    Since these are typically one-and-done runs, I’ve missed too many great releases, so it feel like I’ve missed the boat. It still looks like a great mini cab though. Thanks for the review as always PDubs. 👍

    These look great! I might need to look into picking one up. I am sometimes worrisome about some of these arcade toys as they sometimes include NES roms inside instead of the original arcade roms, but these look pretty on point, plus DIP switch settings are always a plus.

      All of the Numskull Quarter Arcades use the Original Arcade ROMs.

    2:38: Not finger holes per se, but rather vents for the heat from electronics (the CRT monitor in particular), in the original cabinets.

    Great review. I recently came across these Quarter Arcade units. I loved them so much I bought every unit made to date including Polyibus in less than 72 hours. I intend on collecting these going forward. I also am in on the preorder of space invaders?
    I then went a step further and bought EVERY released cabinet from New Wave Toys Replicade. 😂

      WOW!!! Every Unit? Crazy Man that must've been a hell of an eBay Bill to pay! Wow! But Congrats Dude you got them all!

    Not sure why the algorithm thought I should see this again but you got another view.
    I have purchased every Quarter Arcades and New Wave Toys machine to date and have EVERY box for each machine as well.
    Wish they were doing USB-C before Space Invaders.

      @@PDubsArcadeLoft, with no evaluation units.
      I would love to see either company make a lucite (or similar) cover to help manage dust.
      A standard on and off switch would also have been amazing from day one to allow powering the fleet on or off simultaneously.
      Happy holidays.

    Couple of things that should have been pointed out.
    1. There is a lot of warping pixels as can be seen in your playthrough (just watch Bub's eyes get bigger and smaller from 1 pixel to 2 as he walks horizontally). If they could just add a filter to the graphics it would be perfect but it looks pretty awful.
    2. It is not 'as always' for saving high scores. The early Numskull QA cabinets don't save scores.

    • @PDubsArcadeLoft
      @PDubsArcadeLoft  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment and feedback Erik!
      1. This is such a small thing I didn't even notice. I did just turn the game on in MAME after I read your comment and the eyes are supposed to remain solid but yes on this Unit they appear to 'blink' a little and a slight pixel change when moving horizontally. Honestly nothing that ruins the gameplay in my opinion I honestly didn't even notice it, great catch though!
      2. Every Numskull Cabinet I own does save all the High Scores but then again I do not own them all and have not reviewed them all. I've never honestly heard anyone say there are specific units that don't, so appreciate the heads up there.

      @@PDubsArcadeLoftMy Galaga, Galaxian, Pac-Man, and Ms. Pac-Man don't save their high scores. Dig Dug was their first cabinet that does. I remember when they released Dig Dug with its saving ability, they said that all future cabinets would also save their scores.

    PDubs,
    I can understand why you'd keep the box with this one, it looks better than the side art on the cabinet. This is one of the rare occasions where the artwork on the Bubble Bobble mini cab from My Arcade looks light years better than this Numskull offering. I love my Numskull Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-man cabs, but they missed the boat in my opinion with Bubble Bobble, even at $128. I get these mainly to display and not to play, so that's a major factor for me.

      The side artwork "racing stripes" or whatever-you-want-to-call-it on this Quarter Arcade is more accurate, though, in that it's the same as other Taito cabinets of the era. e.g. Qix, Elevator Action, and Tin Star.

      jpears1100,
      Yeah, I don't think anyone would knock Numskull for designing this Bubble Bobble offering to more accurately represent an Arcade counterpart, but it's just not aesthetically pleasing to me. That would go equally if they made a Robotron machine. Robotron is one of my all time favorite arcade games, but it's Arcade side art has always looked ugly to me. I'm also a fan of Bubble Bobble and am happy with the My Arcade miniature version I bought to display. The cabinet design is for sure not Arcade accurate, but the artwork is a jollification of the game and makes me smile every time. And yes, the My Arcade version plays the NES rom, but since I don't play these miniatures, that's not an issue for me. I'm glad Numskull continues to make Arcade accurate representations and I'm looking forward to their Space Invaders offerings.

    I'm not much of a gamer at all with the exception of Pac-Man in which it's my favorite game of all time and when I heard that numskull was making a quarter size arcade Pac-Man I just had to buy it. It's a perfect size as I don't have room for a full size Pac-Man arcade in my place.

    Technically no Tito cabinets had artwork the only one that did on that did was zookeeper All the rest had those side graphics just in different color

    Get ready for Qbert! I’m hoping 1942 by years end. Why does the same girl who holds numbskull also hold New Wave toys? I think Pdubs and TrOLL need to find out. Mine are all boxed. Ironically I’m missing orig PAC Man because I got 40th Ed and missing Galaga because isn’t it just Galaxian? I got to figure out how to get them free like ……….. These are an investment to me (even though I doubt I’ll sell them. New Wave wins with the hdmi out, yes?

    • @PDubsArcadeLoft
      @PDubsArcadeLoft  2 роки тому

      Can't wait for QBert from New Wave lol what is up with that model both companies use? Yes HDMI out is a huge win

    Off topic.. how is it that we let arcade one up and all these other companies get away with calling their machines three quarter scale? I have a real Big Buck Hunter pro cabinet and a real Golden tee 2009 cabinet. They each weigh about 450 lb and are easily three times the size of my marvel versus Capcom A1 up

    • @PDubsArcadeLoft
      @PDubsArcadeLoft  2 роки тому

      LOL Yeah they really aren't 3/4 scale are they? More like 3/5th Scale.

    Yes, but the Numskull Pacman Quarter Arcades unfortunatlely does NOT save the highscore! I know that for sure, cause I posses one of this! 😉
