You make me want to 3d print something similar.... Simply amazing.
Has he only worked in aluminum or has he done steel armor too?
Not only did I enjoy this, but it inspired a question. Imagine a modern day world, where we never invented firearms, but have everything else available. Where swords and shields are the most powerful military armament, and Armor is needed. How would a suit of Armor in that world be designed? What would it look like?
Im watching this episode first after seeing the walk through video and i love it! Watching the whole build series right now!
ua-cam.com/video/83RAQPm-TGE/v-deo.html
omg the way adam's face lit up when Terry said "im quite a fan of your work as well" made my day
I'm Terry English's daughter! It's so strange to see my dad on UA-cam! 😂
If anyone has any questions relating to his work, I'll do my best to answer!
To bad you couldn't get your Dad To do some content. Here Im sure lots of people would support it
Christine Chapman unfortunately he is very anti technology, but I agree that would be cool!!
@@madaboutmika75 I hope you show him all of our love for his wonderful work
Christine Chapman I definitely will! 😄
Hi Mavvy, Terry's work is absolutely amazing. I'm curious which alloy of aluminium he uses and how thick is it?
I'm not even 5 minutes into the video and I can already say that I love this guy. The way he decorates his house: A+. His attitude towards others: A+. His openness and reliability: A+. Full marks!
Plus, as a foreigner to his native land, I'll say I love the accent. Not uncommon for me to appreciate an accent from areas around him, but the bit where he occasionally becomes a little unclear makes it super charming.
Terry's house is like my adolescent dream of what my house would look like. I mean my adult dream looks the same I just now understand how difficult and expensive that is to pull off lol.
My first thought too.
that, and what a total dust magnet it's gonna be :p
Lmao I'm in the same boat. Realizations suck and sometimes ignorance is bliss :O
Nope just born in the right era with white privilege lol
"How many sets of armor did you build?"
"One hundred and six, and it nearly killed me."
Holy hell, that's dedication man 😳😳
If it nearly killed him he should have worn his own armor to protect himself.
Mindblowing. When you think a top actor will get like a million dollars for saying lines and making faces... and then you realize the amount of work this man has put in !
I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Terry at a comic-con before Christmas here in the UK.
He had the gall to apologise to me for talking so long! What an absolutely lovely gent.
Gregg, I met him at FTLOSF in Manchester the year before, I was a Steampunk Judge Dredd and he literally grabbed my harness, pulled me to one side and praised my build.. I mean, Terry English praising my work???? I, of course, prostrated myself before him declaring my unworthiness 😁.. What a Gent!
When the UK news is bleak with government and finance woes, it's great to see videos like this showcasing some amazing UK talent! I'd love to have a tour of Terry's house!
oh my god
i didnt know they existed he is a real life dwarven blacksmith
and i say this in the utmost respect they are the real masters of blacksmithing
He's not really a blacksmith. they make tools, horseshoes and household stuff. he's more of an artist and a bit of an armour smith
adam being adam. just almost childlike wonder about the whole deal. i love that true enthusiam he has for his work and his ventures
I love that they are such big fans of each other :-)
I though that was really sweet!
That's true
Good on Adam for adapting his pronunciation of Aluminium to respect where he is and who he’s talking with.
I can't wait to see more of this!
Wow this was so awesome, two people who so highly respect each other and they're both equally passionate about their works. I can't imagine how excited Adam was to spend a week with him.
"I'm a freelancer, you always say YES!"
Felt that.
The house elf armor though!!😲⚡⚡
"elf house armor", even better lol
@@SirSchmittyX -the house of the armored elfs should be better- yeah thats cool too
These videos are my happy place. I can fall asleep re-watching these more times than I can count. Mr. English is such a cool guy!
7:54 I love Adam's genuine "Holy Jesus" face at 106 full suits!
How can anyone press the thumbs down? Pure genius true British gent and American gent working together to make a dream come true! What’s the odds of watching a film when your 14/15 and seeing something that blows your mind and sends you on a path to your own trade and then years later building your own armour with the craftsman that built the things that sent you on your way!! The world needs more people like Adam and Terry!! All the best.🇬🇧
I'd guess it might be because the rest of the series is locked behind a paywall?
I'm just guessing; apart from the one-day builds, I'm not really into Tested all that much, so I don't know how it works :)
e someone that has no appreciation for hard work, a lifetime of making fantastic armor, with no creativity.
Probably young kids that search for Minecraft game armor or bullshit like that. They listen for 10 seconds, don't have a clue what its all about and yell... Boooring. I guess you must reach a certain age to appreciate handcrafted work like this.
Met Terry once at an art competition to design armour for the modern (1981) Day. Mine was armour for postmen. Dog defence lol. He was a lovely guy who talked to me for ages about the armour he made for Excalibur. His old workshop used to be in Romford Essex, if I am not mistaken.
He sounds like a really awesome guy!
@@TheDungineer He still is lol.
Didn't win the competition however 😭
"His old workshop used to be in Romford Essex, if I am not mistaken."
Yeah, he said at 18:15 his first workshop was the old stable of Pyrgo Palace, which is in Havering-atte-Bower, just down the road from Romford. I live near there so I was surprised to hear that. Shouldn't be really, considering his accent, he sounds just like my dad and his mates.
So happy that he talked about mail vs. chain mail
This guy is a class act, so much experience, I could listen to this man talk for hours!
Terry English is just the most amazing and interesting human being!! I could just listen to him talk for hours... taking in all of his knowledge and fantastic stories.
Side note: WTF!! 105 full suits of armor 😮🤯
He totally sounds like it! Like everything he builds comes with an awesome story and life experience!
. . . 106 . . . @16:19
Off by 1... 🤫😄 thanks dood!
Completely agree, I could listen to him for hours and then come back for more!
So was Adam, Terry reminded him gently of the correct number.
This is my type of video, you get the experience played out with someone that is a master of their craft. This type of information is priceless.
I love how Terry looks like an wise old king, he has a very proud and regal way of talking!❤
I can't get over how incredibly apropos it is that English looks exactly like a Tolkein dwarf, employed exactly how one would be: making armor.
Now THIS is TESTED!! looking forward to the build and hopefully many more interview /collaborative builds with the greats in movie magic .
Welcome to the UK Adam, you are just down the road from me now, this is probably the best 33 minutes of my life,
I grew up in Cornwall and learnt alot about King Arthur, there is so much history surround you there, i hope you manage to get out and see some of it
That handshake tho :)
Lots of nerves on Adam's part...
awkward.....
damn i couldnt look away lol
awkward xD
they just about managed to style it out!
Fascinating interview. Such a gentle bloke, with a real gleam in his eye. Had no idea Terry was involved in Aliens (my teenage favorite film), and Alien 3 (which I also loved, though this divides opinion apparently).
What an incredibly interesting gentleman. I could listen to him for ages
I love how excited Adam is throughout all this, you can see how much attention he gives Terry when he talks....
to think you came to our little corner of the country!! I live 20 mins away from Terry, he really amazing person ever so friendly and well loved by all here in Cornwall. Inspire me from a child when I first saw the Xenomorph he has, then all his work is breath taken. Valkyrie is my favourite one he done, glad it was sunny for you Adam! Our weather changes allot in one day!
At around 26:00-27:00 Adam's body movements look so jittery like he literally is embodying the phrase "kid in a a candy store" its heart warming!
This is fantastic. I was obsessed with Excalibur as a kid and once spent a winter break trying to recreate Arthur's armor out of aluminum siding.
Adam I am so sorry to hear about your armor getting thrown away! It must have been heartbreaking :( I't really awesome to hear a master talk about their craft. Hearing Terry talk about crafting armor from aluminum makes me really curious about the workability of the different metals using classical armoring techniques. I know aluminum has pretty awful fracture toughness compared to steel, and I don't see a forge in that workshop, so now I want to know how Terry can cold form aluminum without it breaking and cracking. He is a master I suppose. Can't wait to see more of this!
Aluminum is pretty ductile and can be worked cold easily; some alloys more easily than others. A lot of armoring in steel is also done cold, but a lot of the heavier work has to be done hot since steel is less ductile. Aluminum will fatigue and work harden over time but it can be quickly annealed with a torch (this is shown in the video). "Fracture toughness" has nothing to do with it; there are a separate set of material properties at play which can be controlled with heat and technique.
@@MauledByBears thanks for the info! I'm totally going to check out your channel!
@@TheDungineer Of course. My channel isn't really full of much at the moment, I haven't had a chance to record and edit a video in a LONG time. But if you have any questions about metalworking, feel free to DM me on UA-cam or Instagram @_scald.
Watch "On Cardboard and Jungian Philosophy - Still Untitled: The Adam Savage Project - 10/28/2013
"
He talks about this happening in more detail, you can hear about how this event knocked his making back by nearly 2 years, it's pretty hard stuff.
@The Dungineer if you want to see some good channels for non-aluminum armor take a look at Greenleaf Workshop channel ua-cam.com/channels/iaOdgnpP0PQ1lofmAHUhrA.html or Armure Dubé channel ua-cam.com/channels/Qc3EOGXOnMmvMZnOfgYOAw.html
Thank you once again Adam and crew for taking us along. Adam's excitement is infectious. Beautiful job on lighting the interview btw.
What an astounding talent, and a proper gentleman. Can’t wait to see the rest.
What an amazing experience with such a brilliant man. I probably would have cried at such an opportunity. Thank you so much for bringing us along with you! Simply amazing!
Oh my God ! Adam, I can't thank you enough for this video. I've been fascinated by this mans work for years !
It's great to see the shared respect and admiration these two have for each other. Also great to see the respect Terry has for the people he's worked with throughout his career. He seems like a thoroughly decent chap.
What an honor for us all, thank you for sharing this experience Mr Savage!! :D
I could talk to Terry English for a month and still have questions.
Adam , you asked all the right questions. very fun and informative to watch... well done. Thank you.
Absolutely fascinating interview, seeing Terry English discussing with Adam about something that they are both extremely passionate about.
Adam, if it wasn't for you're lifetime interest in armor and your means of creating this video, many wouldn't have know about this extremely talented man! Thank you!
Excalibur is still one of my all-time favorite movies. So jealous Adam!
I wish they would show the examples. From the films that they mention.
I want to see some aluminum armor!
@@TheDungineer Just watch Excalibur.
@@AmazingPaladin I will I'm just impatient
@@AmazingPaladin all the armor in the shop was aluminium tho
Google image search is your friend. Also, look in the background and try and spot armor that you recognize.
It’s incredible, his talent is truly remarkable. It’s a shame that people like him go unrecognized, not a great deal of the general public know who he is, and they very well should. Same with Adam, amazing talent, worked on some serious films and not many people know about it. Loved this video, I’m looking forward to the next part.
Thanks Adam made me go back and watch King Arthur. i have not watched it in a long time and watching it now as i am typing this. such a good movie. a young Patrick Stewart
29:48 It's Mail, it is Mail!
The joy of seeing creatives meet. This is just how it is, sheer appreciation of each other's skills.
Seeing people with such passion talk about their amazing / unique skills is quite emotional!
I've been waiting for this! Looking forward to the next part. Watching and listening to these two incredible minds sharing their passion, knowledge and creativity is like being in heaven.
These two people are treasures, love everything you do
I love seeing Adam work and build things but... I would absolutely be down to see more like this of just Adam interviewing and hearing these sorts of stories. There's just so much to be inspired from watching any old documentary about these people, but... to see it through Adam's eyes and share in his enthusiasm brings it to a whole new level.
If you've never visited Cornwall (in the southwest of England), I urge you to make it a priority to visit...it is amazingly beautiful and has so much incredible history! Laycock, St Michaels mount, Tintagle, St Ives, Minack theatre, and on and on. Just a couple hours drive west from London, enjoy a couple stops in the Cotswolds, Oxford or Bath on your drive over.
I met Terry briefly at Asylum (The UK steampunk convention)in Lincoln last year ...The display he had there was wonderful ..he's a very warm and welcoming soul and so full of knowledge ... hope I get to meet him again some day
I have to agree, I saw Excalibur in Jr High school in the 1980s, and I love that film. And indeed the armor is absolutely amazing.
Absolutely brilliant interview and I can't wait to see the working process!
Met him back in October at Bristol Comic Con, was an absolute pleasure meeting him being a huge fan of Aliens.
Ive been obsessed with it since I saw it on HBO in 1982 age 13. It got me into King Arthur legends fully. That clean shining plate armor. The good guys. A true master. He is like a much better Weta in one person...and I love Weta.
is there a house tour? because oh my god that hallway alone is fantastic
Excalibur is THE greatest Arthurian legend movie (yet) made and Terry English's work in the film is just magnificent.
Buckle up boys, this gonna be good!
This is like candy! I can't think of many things more interesting than building armor. Can't wait for part 2.
What an amazing opportunity, Adam. Being a huge fan of Excalibur myself, this is a dream come true.
I was lucky enough to meet Terry English at London comic con a couple of years ago, he was so awesome
This is going to be an epic set of builds, i can feel it already. Wow!
Quite literally that movie affected me the exact same way. In the biggest roundabout possible all these years later I'm now a blacksmith/bladesmith! But I WILL NOT rest until I create my own suit of armor! Two legends! and I cant wait to see what you create!
making something no matter what it is no matter how you're doing it. you are taking something that used to be part of a star and bending it to your will. how cool is that.
This is so amazing! Can't wait to see the next episode.
Had the pleasure of meeting Terry. Such a nice humble guy and great to talk too.
Incredible! Excalibur is also one of my favorite movies ever made.
Epic, just the amount of knowledge and expertise that one person can hold, and then there are two of them in the same room!
Absolutely amazing! I loved every minute of watching this video!
Awesome. Love Terry's house and his work is outstanding.
I went to school with this guys daughter :D I remember being shown a video of Terry showing off his armour's and it began a deep love for the fantasy genre, armour, weaponry, etc. Took me a minute to realise where i recognised his face from, but now i remember that video like it was yesterday
Superb, can't wait for the next one.
Just popped up in my feed, one i will rewatch for sure, my fav build series so far
This is the most epic thing I’ve seen in years. I was nerding out the whole time.
Love these kind of videos. Great people and always so interesting. Terry is a legend, and Adams enthusiasm is compelling.
I've waited for this videos for years Adam, thank you.
to just sit in a room with these two..and a few glasses of spirit... listening to the talk that can flow
outstanding. i love it. thank you Adam for sharing this
This is amazing. Great interview Adam.
Also, on a very nerdy level, I am SO STOKED FOR YOU that you got to meet one of your heroes.
It is the greatest Arthurian film ever created and I would happily sit at the feet of this master and watch him work and listen to his stories, Adams cool as well lol.
Absolutely jealous beyond words... Looking forward to seeing the full series.
This is amazing. I felt the same way when I first saw Excalibur as a kid. I would watch it every chance I could when they started showing it on cable TV later on (I think it was on Z Channel first, and then early HBO). The armor was so amazing in that film. Glad I just discovered this video.
Adam you need to meet more people like this. This guy is awesome!
I can not WAIT for more episodes of this!!
Brilliant video, thank you, what an amazing guy Terry is.
Can't wait for part 2!
That was fascinating. Lots of armor history and movie history. Can't wait for part two.
I want to thank you guys for putting this out for free. I sure that this was expensive to produce and made with the intention of being released to the Tested Premium members. It couldn't have been easy to decide to put this out, I hope it sends more people to sign up
What a awesome character, it is so amazing to see the personality behind the creator of these amazing objects
Oh boy oh boy oh boy! I’m looking forward to this! Enjoy your time there Adam, I grew up in the next door county, Devon.
Great episode. Nice to see Adam so overwhelmed by Terry... Looking forward to seeing the next one..
Adams enthusiasm and interest in these videos is unreal, such a talented entertainer.
Hi Adam, I just wanted to say FREAKIN' AWESOME!!! I loved this episode. It's nice to finally meet the artist/genious who created those armoured suits for those classic movies. I'm also a big fan of King Arthur too!
Excellent video. Excalibur's armour blew me away when I first saw it, it looked so familiar but also so alien. What a fascinating guy Mr English is.
