I always get sad when I see videos of the mall, a lot of great memories there. When I was young, my family lived about 45 minutes from it, it was a treat to go to Century lll. When I was older I frequented it often. Every Thursday my mom and dad who have since passed, would visit my sister who lived 10 minutes from the mall, to see the grandchildren, I lived in Pittsburgh at the time too, we would all meet at her house and go to the mall and eat and shop. It was a great mall in its heyday. It’s just very sad to see it abandoned.
I'm about 15 minutes from the mall. My mother always tells me stories about her and my great grandmother in the mail. I at least got to see the mall but it was in it's decline in 2010-2017
My mom has friends who had a sand there, it cost more to rent a stand there than a full site front at another mall. The absurd cost makes us think that it was a front for something, idk tho I’m no expert.
A lost detail is that they used to play this relaxing, ambient keyboard music that echoed throughout the mall. All the cool ramps, stairs, and balconies made this place so iconic... every so many steps would look, sound, and feel so very different. It made you feel like you were exploring some kind of futuristic space. This place was more than architecture but a work of art just to walk through. For the holidays it used to be decorated to a sensory overload degree, basically an immersive experience and about as many features and details as any public space I've ever seen. In the right mental state it could be an absolutely transcendental experience.
Its so freaky seeing you stand in places i remember standing when i used to go here with my dad. If i had known my visit in 2019 would be my last i would have taken pictures myself. The crazy dream-like architecture was always my favorite thing about the mall. Its crazy how flooded the floors are just 3 years past closing
@14:45, that is the old New Dimensions Comic store. They were one of the LAST hold-outs to leave the mall before closure. They moved - and I'd say are doing well - to the Waterfront in Homestead. Ironic, since the Waterfront opening in ~1999 is often listed as one of a handful of reasons for CIII's demise.
Those guys are pretty good at their business. I was there for a con they put on one year in the old Sears. It was crazy being at their store at night and getting locked in the mall. I was like great, now I’m in a horror movie…
Born and raised about 20 minutes from the mall and worked at places within walking distance of it. Its a real shame how everything around it seems to flourish, but it was left to crash. Always wanted to check it out!
I grew up in West Mifflin, I left in '72 when I joined the USAF. I was back home on leave in the late '70s and Century III was under construction. I've been there a few times since and saw the decline in the '90s.. It's a shame, that was a big boon for the community when it was built.
Nice explore guys. I never knew this mall in it's heyday but I'd go when it was still open just to walk around and experience it. My aunt worked there in the 80s and she said when it was busy, you could feel the floors bouncing as all the people walked around - the ground has always been so unstable.
This was the place to go if we were bored. Friend of mine had a Mazda RX-7 and we would cruise down here in it just to walk around and do nothing and buy nothing. There was a Taco Bell just over the hill from here and since there was none in our area, we always ate there. There was a movie theater about the same distance away. Could make a whole day out of going to the movies, the mall and eating Taco Bell (always brought extra $1 Frito Burritos home for later) haha
This is insane! It is in such bad condition. 😥I have sooo many memories of this mall. My mom would take me and my brother shopping here after school all the time in the early 2000's.
Omg cash in culture. They had awesome nerdy stuff and cheap PS1 games. Y'all did amazing. I gotta do this for myself. EDIT- the coffee shop was always smelling amazing before it closed in the 2000s. The comic store still exists too... And the mind hunter set it looked like!
I remember being in there when I was about 10 in 2017. Then came back on the last day jcpennys was open and seeing through the blocked door the water damage on the stairs. Now it’s flooding and covered in mold. It’s sad. Me and my uncle would explore the whole thing when it was open. Even when only the 3rd floor was closed we snuck up there and looked around. We don’t vandalized or steal. We record our walk and not touch anything. I would love to go back in there now and walk with my uncle to see it for one last time
I grew up a few miles from Century III Mall and moved away before it's complete decline. I remember visiting the comic store around 2018 when it was one of the last stores open. I have tons of childhood memories there: getting my head stuck between the metal bars below the railings, the Christmas setup with Santa's house and train, throwing pennies in the fountains, getting kicked out by security as a teenager. It's a shame the mall looks like this. They're supposed to be tearing it down now.
That comic book store, New Dimension Comics, is located in the Waterfront now, it’s sick, but I wish I could’ve gone while it was in Century III. I’m a teenager, so my only memories of Century III are going there to meet Santa when I was little (if it was still open, this would be the closest mall to us), and doing a thing for Girl Scouts with the Macy’s there, where we wrapped toys for less fortunate kids when I was 8-9. Would’ve loved to see it back in the 80s-90s, I’m obsessed with that look.
I kinda hope the mall never gets bought, it looks so amazing just rotting there outside, it would be cool to keep it as a preserve or something. But then it would be nice for someone to fix the hellscape of the road near it
It was magnificent in its heyday. I remember thinking you’d need three days to look in every store. Just sad how once amazing malls have bitten the dust. Thank you really interesting video!
When did you explore the place? I know some people were able to get into it back in July, but haven’t seen or heard anything since as it’s been sealed up tightly. Been wanting to explore the mall for ages now but haven’t with the recent updates upon it. Seems like I’ll have to wait until the warmer months before anything happens.
Last time I know anyone went here actively, was July. Other than that, all videos I’ve seen have all been done on the exterior and all entrances have been sealed
@@Free4All Oh definitely. The mall has been sealed since practically July/August. I’ve been wanting to get inside and explore it for months now but entrances are never consistent. I don’t even know if there’s any entrances now.
You’re brave going in there without N95 masks. That pink store you guys went in was vintage Victorias Secret. I used to love that compared to the modern VS stores we have today.
I live only a couple hours from there, but would love to make a bmx edit there. Was the water damage really bad. Or was there quite a bit of dry spots also?
I uses to go here all the time because it was local and alot of these part of the mall in the video such as the food court I've never even seen before and always wondered what it looked like back there since I just remembered it being closed already I never thought I would ever see these places
Almost fucking died in here tonight if your going there watch out for someone looking for you that says there a cop or sum there not they started breaking shit and throwing stuff we booked it
It's like 6-7 hours max. I grew up within walking distance of this mall and spent many summers on the Jersey coast as a child. If you hit 7 hours you're just doing the turnpike wrong. I used to get to Philadelphia within 5, and the Atlantic within 6 ½. Pittsburgh is East Coast but I also learned it was the "gateway to the midwest" growing up, so take that for what it's worth.
It already looks like this mall has fallen too far to vandals and the elements to be saved or repurposed. It will continue to decay like Rolling Acres (AKA "Rotting Acres") in Akron, OH did before it was demolished.

Depending on how much water damage/mold repairs would cost, it's a damn shame it can't be repurposed.
yeah they really let this one go. It's too bad!
It will eventually. All the malls in my state were converted to amazon shipping centers.

COOL VIDEO DUDES!!
My childhood mall :(( my stepdad worked at one of the few remaining stores up until they were evicted watching it die in real time was heart breaking
Holy shit you actually went into the store the comic shop at the end :00
Why are the lights still on?
I need to get into this mall and take a stroll down memory lane

damn some kids apparently vandalized this back in april this year :(

Yep as of today it still stands

I had so many jobs in this mall and met the love of my life here.
the area where the fire happened on the third floor the roof collapsed there
i still love this place despite how abandoned it is i much rather be at that new dimension comics at 15:25 then the waterfront location
the mall is now being demolished and will be a slow process over the next few years as they have a small crew ripping it down
i used to go here all the time..
