Tbh yes markets are cheaper but I find the fruit & veg turns very quickly, so living in same area as you I tend to buy from mercadona/ consum as I need it , very interesting vlog as I thought price difference would have been much higher👌
Hi Mike and Yvonne, great video as ever 🙂 trick is to buy only in-season fruit and veg at the market, grown locally and cheap, but anything off-season like broccoli and strawberries will be expensive, I think its broccoli and cauliflower season soon 😉
Hi Yutubis, yes, we should have bought in-season items only but I suppose it still gives a good indicator of the price differences between the supermarket and the Friday Market. Thanks for watching and for your great comment. Best wishes, Mike and Yvonne.
Excellent video comparing the produce prices at the Friday Farmer's Market versus Mercadona. I think we just missed you at the Farmer's Market (got there ~11 AM) and really enjoyed shopping there (our first time). We are staying on the Esplanade near Playas Los Locos, so we do most of our grocery shopping at Mercadona and Consum. You really do have to do comparison shopping here to find the best deals on different items. Keep making these fabulous videos guys - love them!😉😊💓
Hi Vinyl57, thanks for watching and for your very nice comments. The Friday Market is great fun with plenty to look at and a variety of merchandise to purchase and Mercadona is our supermarket of choice. We love them both. Best wishes, Mike and Yvonne
Interesting vid thanks, we've moved permanently inland, at market here after buying 3 or 4 items from one stall we were given biscuits, courgettes, figs and tomatoes free! Couldn't believe it but we'll be back😂
Great video thanks - very interesting comparisons. We’re fans of Al Campo, but also love the markets ( Almoradi is a favourite and a bit cheaper/ less touristy) Got me thinking re the broccoli and strawberries, we Brits need to get better at eating seasonally and more like the locals - artichokes and aubergines, instead of broccoli and cauliflower. I’ve never prepped an artichoke, but I think I should start as they are grown extensively in the area. 👍
Hi Rhian, Yes, it must pay to think and act like the locals, they'll know how to save money on their shopping and they will know what is in and what is out of season....Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best Mike and Yvonne.
Thanks for doing all the research Guys 👍. Sue tells me we were getting 3 heads of brocoli for a euro, back in February this year, at Torrevieja Friday market. Could well be the seasonal effect it would seem. Finally, we can happily say see you next week, as we're out to our house on Tuesday. 😎. ATB Simon & Sue
Hi Simon and Sue, yes we think it was a seasonal thing as we paid a lot less last time at the market for broccoli. Look forward to seeing you at the meeting on Saturday....
Another informative video. As we all know you Yorkshire types like to keep an eye on the pennies. So how are UK pensioners out there doing, as the pension increases are based on the UK as opposed to the Spanish cost of living increases.
Hi Ged, thanks for watching. We are doing okay and probably keeping up with the Spanish cost of living increase, about the same as the UK increase, I think. Thanks for the comment, All the best Mike and Yvonne.
well done guys. i like your mercadona, it is real value for your money. prices in austria oranges and lemons etc expensive but stuff like apples, pears etc cheap. different climate. till next time keep well , chris and dani
@@amandaporter8023 We did indeed Amanda, thank you very much, we thanked you on the app, and hope you got it okay. It really is great to receive such gifts from people who we hope we entertain or give knowledge in some way. Thanks again and all the very best, Mike and Yvonne.
Love the Torrevieja Friday Market which is our go too when we are over. Mountain View Farm boxes are good too. Mercadona is good value plus the Governor as they are the only stockist
Hi Iain, thanks for watching. Not tried the Mountain View Farm boxes. We'll be seeing Andy and Katie on Saturday at the Meet-up so might see if I can sort one out when we get back from Benidorm....Long live the Gov'nor. Thanks for your comments, all the best Mike and Yvonne.
Great video comparison guys , would it be a fair statement to say that Mercadonas and markets further inland will cheaper than in the more populated / tourist areas along the coastline ? .
Hi AussiePete, yes, I think that is correct. Our subscribers have told us that, that is the case for inland supermarkets. Thanks for watching, Mike and Yvonne.
You know you will pay high prices for Mercadona fruit and veg but you're guaranteed top quality every time. Markets are always a lot of fun to find the bargains.
Hi Patrick, Thanks for watching. I think your comment is spot on. Mercadona fruit and veg is top quality, and the markets are great value, but bear in mind the markets fruit and veg is is unprocessed so the produce will not last as long, so not a good idea to overbuy. Thanks for your great comment. Best wishes Mike and Yvonne.
LOL, Hi Julie, yes, weve done another menu del dia today so it's not putting us off and we are managing to eat all the fruit and veg. Nothing will be wasted, after all, we are from Yorkshire....Thanks for the great comment. All the best, Mike and Yvonne.
Hi, he did seem a little glum didn't he. The market is generally a very happy place and has a good atmosphere. I think he was the exception. Thanks for watching, all the best Mike nd Yvonne.
Hi Vaun, thanks for watching. Yes, the markets offer amazing prices most of the time. We are not big coffee drinkers, we just get supermarkets own brand instant coffee....yes, a little boring I know but....we are from Yorkshire....lol Thanks for your comment, Best wishes, Mike and Yvonne.
The Market's can be false economy , you buy too much veg and it does not stay as fresh as the Supermarkets , and 100% stay away from the Olives stalls as they charging a fortune . The Markets do have good snack bars, drinks are cheap, especially the Lemmon Tree market where they have great selection of hot foods.... it's a good day out and they sell everything you would need not just the veg...
Hi, thanks for watching. Yes, it doesn't last as long, so not a good idea to get more than you can eat. WE love the Lemon Tree Market as well. Their eateries are great and we always spend time in them before we set off back..Best wishes, Mike and Yvonne.
Hi Reg, we have done a comparison between Uk Lidl and Spanish Lidl. Maybe this is why you are confused. This one is about the difference in price of Fruit and Veg between Mercadona Supermarket and Torrevieja’s Friday Market….
Hi Dennis, lol, there were a few glum faces behind the market stalls but there were lots more delighted faces as well. We didn't see them all on camera but the atmosphere in the market is great and well worth experiencing. Best wishes, Mike and Yvonne.

best supermarket in spain and the uk needs to get a grip is carrefour got more choice
We find that carrefour is a bit too big so prefer Mercadona or Hiperber, thanks for watching, best wishes Mike & Yvonne
Good video but that was a lot of veg to get through you two you need to leave room for for next menu del dia vlog ha ha 😋

Forgive me but unless I am mistaken this cannot be new one as it is a repeat or at least very similar to one you have done before.

I have too say the people working at the market look so unhappy
