I was always told I was a late bloomer, but as I’ve aged I have learned that with the skills I’ve amassed through education and work experience, I am more valuable to myself and family than the cog wheels I rotate on daily. How is it possible to not realize that a middle class person, currently living in a first world country, has access to far more goods and services than were available to the Rockefellers. Medicine, technology, transportation, entertainment are all better now than 100 years in the past.
The list is long: Antibiotics, MRIs, computers, even travel. Your average traveller has been to more places around the globe than a billionaire from the 1920s. The Rockefellers did not fly often because the technology was still evolving. My Hyundai sedan has more technology than an S-Class Mercedes from the late 90s. Forget about the 1920s.
Few people today would trade places with the Rockefellers of the 1920s. The quality of life and material comfort is far better today.

Even if those reasonable sounding conclusions are 100% true, it seems likely that we can still dramatically improve on that system in a reasonably short amount of time. The right technology, used in the right way, should both empower the worker and the country. If alcohol and stress overload really are as bad as the research seems to suggest, it appears best for the country to create jobs that maximize utility while minimizing the speed that those 'cogs' burn out.

I have an issue with the middle class being well off today or more so than a hundred years ago. Go back to the 70's and 80's. The middle class was by far, way better off in the 70's and 80's than they are today. My parents owed a house on the lake, a boat and two cars on one police salary. Today that same house, boat and two cars you would need a salary of about 500,000 a year to have those same things. Now you tell me how well off the middle class is today.

I'm tired of being a Cog! Also, there are beautiful places to live in the world; you need to do your research and find the best for you. If you love America, then by all means, that is great! But, to act like our way of life is the only way is not the case. Many Americans are growing businesses they can run from anywhere in the world, and many choose to live outside the States. A lot of them choose to live in Italy and Brazil. And I know what everyone will say, " crime is terrible in those countries." everywhere you go has crime, some worse than others. One thing that you wouldn't worry about in Brazil or Italy, for example, is your children being shot up at school. I'm an American, and I'm not saying that America is a terrible place to live, but I am saying that acting like America is the best or only place to live is what 'they' want you to believe. I'm sure I will receive some hate for this comment, and I have to tell you I really do not care.

I am fatigued by individuals who insist on comparing our nation to others, suggesting that those other countries lack a well-structured legal framework. These individuals assert that the situation is less dire in the USA, seemingly unaware that the USA is ostensibly bound by laws that apply to all citizens and immigrants. Let's put an end to these comparisons with other nation-states! If the USA is indeed bound by laws, then it must be held accountable to those laws.
Consider, for instance, the debate surrounding immigration policies. Some argue that the USA's approach is more lenient than certain other nations. However, it's crucial to recognize that immigration laws in the USA exist to regulate the entry and stay of individuals, ensuring a systematic and lawful process.
I remain indifferent to the actions of other countries; nevertheless, to safeguard our nation's sovereignty, we must subject politicians, corporations, police, and judges to rigorous scrutiny. Failure to do so will inevitably lead to individuals within our states disregarding the very laws that should govern them.
Take, for example, the role of corporations in shaping legislation. If we allow undue influence, corporations may exploit legal loopholes to prioritize their interests over the well-being of society. This negligence is profoundly detrimental to our society as a whole, permitting corporations and other entities to embed themselves into our legal system and influence the governance of our country.

Andrew! There is something to be said about having a broader range of knowledge than just the hyper focused specialization in a niche. Do colleges fluff it up with "core" classes? Absolutely. However, just like the most fertile ground for growth/life comes from overlapping biomes, so too do overlapping ideas lead to innovation. Good example of that is Steve Jobs and his calligraphy being so impactful on his success. The idea that goes into traditional education is being "well rounded" - the renaissance man idea, because that is what allows for a person to connect dots that they wouldn't/couldn't without knowledge of something outside of the immediately relevant. I think "core" could stand to be more diverse though so people could let their natural proclivities form their strengths instead of doubling down on shit they don't care about.

Not sure how much of this is based in evidence and reality. When I look at NATO countries which are all western, democratic republics based on capitalism, the top 10 countries based on GDP per capita beat us in quality of life, education, STEM, civil rights, healthcare and % Debt/GDP. The reason america is so rich is because from the mid 17th century until the late 19th century you had an economic advantage of slavery which afforded the US an imaginable amount of wealth for a country that was literally less than 50 years old based upon free slave labor producing cotton. Couple that with Ocean to Ocean control, a norther ally with impassable terrain that prohibits large scale industrial and agricultural use, a southern continent fractured by many western european countries with largely impassable terrain and two 5 year periods of constant high level war in Europe and you basically have a head start on everyone.

True for me just narrowing down my true niche has become daunting. How would one know how to make a quick accurate decision with so many options? It's like once I get good at something I either loose interest or if takes me down a rabbit hole to something else I never knew I was good at. Does just being good at something your niche or is their more involved in discovering your True Niche?

Well I don't think so much crappy food that does so much damage to health and teeth was available back then too. In reality no one really can say it's a lot better now because not every person has the same life and no one really knows what happened back then. Plus technology or money doesn't contribute to the best things in life and those are exactly the things people struggle more and more with. A purely positive view is just not a realistic one.

They were better for the elite back then, not it’s better for the people that would have had dirt floors. Capatalism redistributes the wealth that way. And it does so relatively fairly compared to socialism or communism. Unfortunately, like any system , it’s being corrupted by cronyism and corporatism now,.

@@calidreams5379 OMG. What did you not get here? I'm not saying to not appreciate the things that are better but fucking please don't think we are better off in every aspect. Look at health people say medicine is way better than before. Is it? I'd argue modern medicine is good only when it comes to acute things. When it comes to most diseases it's still the same approach as in the middle ages. People were being told back then that bad spirits cause diseases and now it's viruses. What a bunch of BS. It's the fucking way of live now and then. Also MIT made a data analysis about this and they figured that doctors didn't contribute in any country they have data to life expectancy. It's food and clean water but not doctors. And do you think anything can get better if you believe everything is better now and we live like kings. That is just exactly as stupid as to think back then everything was better.

I agree with Andrew 100% when it comes to analyzing and narrowing down what you really want to invest your knowledge and education in. Instead of colleges and universities who are businesses and are going to shake you down for as much money as they can from you, consider a trade school that focuses on the carreer you want to pursue in much less time. Or, go to an online college that is less expensive and completed in less time than colleges and universities. And even if you don't graduate from a "prestigious" big league university, your local or online degree will still get you the job you want.

I retired on the savings of 3 years of my college loans, while I lived in an old minivan on the $80 per week sales of my plasma.. I ate free at a church and the SA mission, got around on an old bicycle. To have a place to clean up when the college was closed, I joined Planet Fitness 24-7 gyms for $10 per month, I used a vet's VA home loan to buy a big old house, no down payment, no PMI, very low closing costs. I converted a couple of big rooms into 6 small rooms, and when they all rented out for $150 per week each, in the first month, I knew I had a winner. So I added the needed bathroom and with the income of those rooms, converted the rest of the house into 6 more rooms. The vet got one free for his trouble. In less than a year, I moved on to repeat, and he became the live-in tenant manager. The 60k per year that I clear from those 3 properties gives me a nice enough life, cause I aint dumb enough to want kids or a dependent wife.

college is based on the idea of university, and the idea is that you get exposed to knowledge, so that you know there is more out there. the reason why you e.g. in medical school have to learn a bunch of other stuff is, because you are not supposed to be that guy, who just knows how to operate one machine, without understanding a little bit of physics, chemistry, biology, and other parts of medicine, so that you know where in that bigger picture you operate. It is an interesting take to see it as a business, that only wants money, but I think that is a very one sided view on it.

Study how Germany fills it's factories with people it selected, helped, and advised in high school io 'groom' them for their upcoming career with that company. Also study how they appreciate the trash collector as much as the policeman or doctor, knowing that everyone is necessary to make the system work. Also note where a large percentage of Europeans are at least somewhat fluent in 2+ languages, which allows them to see and understand more of what's going on in the world. Nothing is perfect, but these method improve the situation for everyone, top to bottom. The one thing we've got is that non-cogs like me can become self-employed and succeed or fail based only on ourself.

YET, OUR ALLIES HAVE A HIGHER STANDARD OF LIVING THAN SEEN IN THE USA. I am referring to the percent total within the population. We do not have public funded healthcare. U.S. citizens have a harder times moving upwards educationally and lifestyle wise. WE do not have highly subsidised secondary education like our allies do. OUR allies combine the best of democracy , socialism, and capitalism. They do not allow capitalism to rise above their government through paid lobbyists or political organizations.good day
