I love the fact that Garry was first officially elected because of a WRITE IN campaign. He wasn't even on the ballot but he was so beloved by the town they all demanded he be allowed to remain mayor.
Ngl, i think what happened more is that the people didnt know who the other people were on the ballot so they wrote Garry's name on there as a "correction".
I'm guessing Jerry was actually an amazing mayor considering he's not corrupted or amoral like a lot of politicians, he was probably a breath of fresh air.
I wish they did a side gag about that. Like newspapers saying how corruption and unemployment is down, economy is up, etc.etc. He gets a Time article about how he's the most liked mayor in the country, etc.

The introduction of Jerry's family was a stroke of genius. To show that he has such a great life, countering what happens in the office, was beautiful.
I love how they change the lighting whenever they show Garry's family. it's like how they warm up and brighten the lighting when showing elves in lord of the rings. it makes it look unreal and ethereal, so it totally outshines everything else.

I still always love how Brandi Maxx is an adult film star who casually rises into politics and everyone in town is totally fine with it but people were upset about seniors being told about condoms.
Kinda similar to how the people who voted for Donald Trump, the serial cheater and 3x married are the political party of the "family". This is just an extreme example
I love the scene with Gary talking to the maintenance worker on the phone while he was interim mayor because it shows exactly why he kept getting elected. He speaks to everyone with the utmost kindness and respect, and everyone wanted to keep him around.
I loved their dynamic at the end of the series. Donna regretted beung a bully to Jerry aka Gary and then became a genuine friend to him. Her character had so much development over the course of the series.
Can we address how randomly talented Jerry is? He’s an insane pianist and artist. Not to mention that he randomly has a perfect family. I always hated how much disrespect he got.

Ok, but I honestly love the friendship between Jerry and Donna. Yeah, Donna teases him, but she also shows respect for him and doesn’t exclude him from anything. Plus it was cool she got people to call him his real name in the end
He’s a kind gentleman, an excellent painter, a good friend, a grateful family man and an relatable person. I totally get why Gale loves him. What a nice guy. Gerry/Terry(?)/Garry really got the happiest ending.
I’m so glad they gave Jerry a happy life because the running gag of everyone hating him started to get old really fast. Also I never understood why Leslie treated him poorly when it doesn’t fit with her character at all
I have met Jim O’Heir at a convention, and I can tell you, everything you hear about them giving him a perfect family life in the show because he’s so nice in real life? 100% true. He is without a doubt one of the nicest, not just celebrities, but people you will ever meet
i love how the show incrementally started treating him better. in the later seasons he doesnt really seem to mind to be the butt of the joke, just happy to be included. and the fact that he has a loving and stable home life just added to the sweetness
Not an act, it's just a self fulfilling prophecy of them making fun of Garry so he loses all confidence so then he does more dumb stuff and they make fun of him and so on. It'd happen to almost anyone in his situation.
Garry is a magical creature that acts as those around him believe he will. At work he’s a bum ling buffoon because that’s what they believe he is. At home he is confident, competent and loved because that’s what his family believes he is. And Gale is the immortal goddess who created him.
His family reveal was one of my favourite twists on this show. The audience laughed at his mishaps but you couldn’t help but feel bad over time. Finding out what he was going home to felt like redemption :’)
I like the fact that Ron is drinking out of a flask as Jerry floats away in the hot air balloon upon his confirmation as mayor. It's like Ron understands how capable Jerry actually is, and that his success as mayor will never allow Ron to achieve his ultimate goal of dismantling the government from within.
Jerry's character made me look at my coworkers differently. he's like surrounded by these people that live for the job. they marry each other, go to each other's parties and plan events and daytrips together and basically live their entire lives in this group. and they all seem to look down on Jerry for not successfully doing the same. and then he's got this whole other life where he vacations to the next town over with his happy loving family, gets to explore his artistic and creative side with hobbies like painting and playing piano etc. has enough self love to take bubble baths and take time for himself. I always heard this phrase at jobs I worked, "he/she isn't gonna make it here" suggesting the new hire doesn't have the right attitude/skillset to successfully work until retirement at a job. it never occurred to me how that implied a failure on the employees part for doing anything else. for taking a better job elsewhere even. and it makes you not question the worth of a company, but places the burden of assimilation and symbiosis strictly on each individual employee. "making it" is such a crummy idea. now when I see coworkers that don't seem to live for their job, don't invest in gossip and politics and don't enrage themselves with the petty injustices of the workplace, I see someone who's time isn't predominately occupied by the job they do. their focus is on what they do when they leave the job. I love that. I'm becoming a bit more of a Jerry now and I'm happier, even though coworkers seem to feel sorry for me or look down on me for not wanting to hang out with them, and not getting involved with workplace dramatics.
I love when Leslie goes to his house for breakfast. Her makeup and hair change from the door to the table, almost as if once you enter his house, your true beauty comes out.
Theory: Jerry used to look like Chris and Gail fell in love so when he got big she didn’t care what he looked like cuz she was happy and he treats her good.
@@isaac2990 I've met dudes like him and if you lol very closely you can tell they were studs when they were younger. In fact I had a friend about 65 who was about 6'3" probably like 6'5" in his younger days and while he was fat you could see that he was very athletic because of his shoulder and back width. He kind of looked like a strong man competitor.
My theory is that he used to look like (and be as thin as) Chris... with his MASSIVE "friend", and Gale kept making him gain weight to keep other women (and men, hence the Tom phone call) away from him as much as possible... and to make his member just a tad "easier to manage" in the bedroom.
I know the most replayed moment is from Garry's funeral, but my favorite moment is just how happy he is that people are going to call him by his real name. Not an ounce of malice, just joy.
He was mocked by his coworkers and they didnt understand how he had such a happy family life and a beautiful wife. But to find someone like him is very rare, his wife was smart to chose such a good loving family man, who worked everyday and loved his family. I love how they wrote his life, it was kind of a slap in the face of everyone who made fun of him, like "whos laughing now?" he is the one having a great time and a great life.
3:30 Jerry worked at the parks department for 40 years and only had 4 pages worth of good memories in all that time, but still never held it against his colleagues and had an amazing home life. We should all aspire to be like Jerry.
Bro already had the perfect life. That is probably the reason why he did not cared about any of the abuse in his working environment. They can make fun of him all they want but he's lived better life than any other in their office so who cares?
In a show filled with generally good and likeable people - not perfect by any means - I loved both how the bullying of Gerry was a constant reminder of the dangers of group behaviour, and I loved, even more, how Gerry was basically impervious to it. Gerry is a person of true confidence, someone who is so confident in themself that they can allow others to see them as weak
Finally, someone who understood the subtle meaning of that cringy and awkward running gag! And it also made Donna's decision to be a friend rather than jump on the bandwagon because of her work environment's hive mind especially touching and poginant.
True. Allowing others to see you as weak is a good strategy in many situations. And because most people are too afraid to even consider it, most people don't see it coming. Garry was a lot more clever than it seemed.
Jerry is simply a better person than all the rest of them. He's positive. He's kind. He's happy. They can't understand Jerry's situation because misery loves company, they're jealous, and maybe a little narcissistic.

Larry spends all day at work getting bullied, Terry comes home depressed, Gale sucks up all the negativity and Barry is left with nothing but positivity. Of course Barry and Gale's kids inherited the curse too. Which is why Millicent had to break things off with the overly positive Chris.
I really like that theory. Gale is a goddess or a fairy who saw Jerry's kind heartedness and decided to make his life better by taking on a human form and becoming his wife.
None of the Gerrgich women aged. The only way to tell the difference between his daughters and his granddaughters was the age of the men standing next to them.
I like the subtle part about Leslie almost dropping a coffee cup at his house, something usually associated with Jerry. This, along with scenes where Jerry has produced some truly talented art at the workplace before, imply that Jerry isn't actually a klutz by nature, but perhaps rather he feels psyched out at work because of all the mistreatment he gets and is thus more likely to slip up. At his home, this is gone, so he's coordinated and in control, whilst Leslie feels off her game in that setting. It paints this idea Jerry was always a great, talented guy, but how much bad influences can hold someone back.
I mean cults typically trick you into accepting something you normally wouldnt. There's worse things to be tricked into than unconditional love and peace.

It's funny, how everyone is so surprised at Jerry having a good life, beautiful wife and daughters. He's very a talented artist, pianist, an inventor, and in the episode anniversaries, we see how amazing he is at being romantic and a good dancer. Also if you've seen a picture of him when he was young, he was pretty cute.
Remember that one episode when Chris said that the superhuman who will be able live for more that a hundred years was already born and he thought it was him. Yeah... I think that person is Gale
It wasn't 100, I forget the number but it was higher, maybe 200? There have been numerous documented instances of people living to over 100, for decades at least, if not centuries, I don't think it's even very rare at this point.
He was one of the low key best characters in the show, everyone at work messed with him but his family and artistry was unmatched. It’s unreal how it felt like he just bumbled in life until his kids were grown and then bam, successful politician once his kids didn’t need raising and nurturing any further.
4:20 is a solid example of what I never understood about Gary’s character. Leslie is so openly stunned by how a man, in the company of people who outward show him love and kindness, can be calm and confident even though he’s an anxious mess in the company of people who treat him with open contempt. How is that such a head scratcher for a woman who generally is great at seeing what her coworkers need?🤨

I actually love that in a story like this, where it's all about giving your life to your job and making your work your purpose, they allowed Jerry's story to be the beauty of normalcy, taking pleasure in the simplest things and working a job not because you love it, but because it allows you to do the things you love which for him was provide a wonderful life for his family. It instantly made Jerry one of my favorites because his life is the one most people really want to live.
I know this is about garry but all I can think about is the fact that if you run the math in order to star in 11000 adult films in 2 years Brandi Max would need to produce 15 videos a day with no holidays
I must say, I never understood why the rest of Parks and rec stuff is so mean to Jerry. He's kind, jolly fella who's actually loves his wife and daughters and treats them with respect and dignity. There so many other people that are less successful than him in the office, and even characters whom are ''nice'' are right a holes to him. I guess its meant to be funny? But honestly it comes of as forced, lame and cringy.
I don't remember who said this but Jerry didn't care about getting bullied because he knew the department was always happier because they had someone to relieve their stress on. He took one for the team because he was already happy with an amazing family and a job that took care of his family. It was his way of keeping people happy.

Jerry's character made me look at my coworkers differently.
he's like surrounded by these people that live for the job. they marry each other, go to each other's parties and plan events and daytrips together and basically live their entire lives in this group. and they all seem to look down on Jerry for not successfully doing the same.
and then he's got this whole other life where he vacations to the next town over with his happy loving family, gets to explore his artistic and creative side with hobbies like painting and playing piano etc. has enough self love to take bubble baths and take time for himself.
I always heard this phrase at jobs I worked, "he/she isn't gonna make it here" suggesting the new hire doesn't have the right attitude/skillset to successfully work until retirement at a job.
it never occurred to me how that implied a failure on the employees part for doing anything else. for taking a better job elsewhere even. and it makes you not question the worth of a company, but places the burden of assimilation and symbiosis strictly on each individual employee.
"making it" is such a crummy idea.
now when I see coworkers that don't seem to live for their job, don't invest in gossip and politics and don't enrage themselves with the petty injustices of the workplace, I see someone who's time isn't predominately occupied by the job they do. their focus is on what they do when they leave the job.
I love that. I'm becoming a bit more of a Jerry now and I'm happier, even though coworkers seem to feel sorry for me or look down on me for not wanting to hang out with them, and not getting involved with workplace dramatics.

I love when Leslie goes to his house for breakfast. Her makeup and hair change from the door to the table, almost as if once you enter his house, your true beauty comes out.
Theory: Jerry used to look like Chris and Gail fell in love so when he got big she didn’t care what he looked like cuz she was happy and he treats her good.

@@isaac2990 I've met dudes like him and if you lol very closely you can tell they were studs when they were younger. In fact I had a friend about 65 who was about 6'3" probably like 6'5" in his younger days and while he was fat you could see that he was very athletic because of his shoulder and back width. He kind of looked like a strong man competitor.
My theory is that he used to look like (and be as thin as) Chris... with his MASSIVE "friend", and Gale kept making him gain weight to keep other women (and men, hence the Tom phone call) away from him as much as possible... and to make his member just a tad "easier to manage" in the bedroom.
I love jerry. He is the most loveable character on the show. He lived and died happy.

I know the most replayed moment is from Garry's funeral, but my favorite moment is just how happy he is that people are going to call him by his real name. Not an ounce of malice, just joy.
He was mocked by his coworkers and they didnt understand how he had such a happy family life and a beautiful wife. But to find someone like him is very rare, his wife was smart to chose such a good loving family man, who worked everyday and loved his family. I love how they wrote his life, it was kind of a slap in the face of everyone who made fun of him, like "whos laughing now?" he is the one having a great time and a great life.

3:30 Jerry worked at the parks department for 40 years and only had 4 pages worth of good memories in all that time, but still never held it against his colleagues and had an amazing home life. We should all aspire to be like Jerry.
Bro already had the perfect life. That is probably the reason why he did not cared about any of the abuse in his working environment. They can make fun of him all they want but he's lived better life than any other in their office so who cares?

In a show filled with generally good and likeable people - not perfect by any means - I loved both how the bullying of Gerry was a constant reminder of the dangers of group behaviour, and I loved, even more, how Gerry was basically impervious to it. Gerry is a person of true confidence, someone who is so confident in themself that they can allow others to see them as weak
Finally, someone who understood the subtle meaning of that cringy and awkward running gag! And it also made Donna's decision to be a friend rather than jump on the bandwagon because of her work environment's hive mind especially touching and poginant.
True. Allowing others to see you as weak is a good strategy in many situations. And because most people are too afraid to even consider it, most people don't see it coming. Garry was a lot more clever than it seemed.

Jerry is simply a better person than all the rest of them. He's positive. He's kind. He's happy. They can't understand Jerry's situation because misery loves company, they're jealous, and maybe a little narcissistic.
I lost it when he gracefully caught a mug at his house and Leslie was absolutely flabbergasted

Well given Jerry's personality and "medical condition" I can think it's completely justifiable that his wife is always so happy and positive
I like the subtle part about Leslie almost dropping a coffee cup at his house, something usually associated with Jerry.
This, along with scenes where Jerry has produced some truly talented art at the workplace before, imply that Jerry isn't actually a klutz by nature, but perhaps rather he feels psyched out at work because of all the mistreatment he gets and is thus more likely to slip up. At his home, this is gone, so he's coordinated and in control, whilst Leslie feels off her game in that setting.
It paints this idea Jerry was always a great, talented guy, but how much bad influences can hold someone back.

I must say, it makes me happy seeing Gary/Larry/Terry/Jerry happy.
He was one of the low key best characters in the show, everyone at work messed with him but his family and artistry was unmatched. It’s unreal how it felt like he just bumbled in life until his kids were grown and then bam, successful politician once his kids didn’t need raising and nurturing any further.

I actually love that in a story like this, where it's all about giving your life to your job and making your work your purpose, they allowed Jerry's story to be the beauty of normalcy, taking pleasure in the simplest things and working a job not because you love it, but because it allows you to do the things you love which for him was provide a wonderful life for his family. It instantly made Jerry one of my favorites because his life is the one most people really want to live.

I must say, I never understood why the rest of Parks and rec stuff is so mean to Jerry. He's kind, jolly fella who's actually loves his wife and daughters and treats them with respect and dignity. There so many other people that are less successful than him in the office, and even characters whom are ''nice'' are right a holes to him. I guess its meant to be funny? He took one for the team because he was already happy with an amazing family and a job that took care of his family. It was his way of keeping people happy.
