I really like the detail of color with the Djimmi boss. When color cartoons came out. Disney had the contract for full technicolor, and so Looney tunes had to use two color until Disney's contract was up. Which made a lot of their early color cartoons with that color scheme. Very good attention to detail.
wait what’s all that mean and how’s it work? like isn’t that a process? Ot was it that a certain company only knew how to do full technicolor? like were looney toons just not allowed to use full technicolor?
@@limitbreak2966 full technicolor technology was contracted out to Disney, who had exclusive rights to use the process for a while. So other animation companies had to use other processes like two tone technicolor, which is was Looney Tunes used for its first color animation. They used that process for years until the rights to full color became available. That’s why looney tunes early color cartoons looks weird because they could only use that specific process which only provided the two tone colors. And Djimmi uses that same color palette in this fight as a homage to that technology that many companies had to use. It’s fascinating.
I love how Djimmi actually uses his brain in this fight (both literally and figuratively). He sends out a Cuphead clone which may as well be just as strong as Cuphead.
I like how for the Sally Stageplay boss it implies Cuphead and Mugman are so good at acting that when they get hit by the effects they genuinely get hurt and die
For me, my absolute favorite of the bosses is the Ghost Express one. The whole vibe I get and the character designs are awesome. Plus it's not too easy yet it's not hard, which I enjoy very much.
no offense but it was a pain to beat the phantom express, more because in the last phase the train sends out these bone circles and i always try to use my EX and in the process i always get hit
@@dreambert9007 with the chaser I ONLY had to focus on not getting hit by them the only problem is it takes YEARS to do it but thats why I love cuphead cuz for me i loved phantom express for others they loved my least favorite
Fun facc about Matchstick and Djimmi: The models that are in the background of their fights are actually real life models that were made for the game. They then filmed them doing the rotation around those models to give the affect that you see in the game! This technique was also used for things like old popeye cartoons back in they day. Instead of drawing complex cities it just made more sense to just make the city out of whatever they could find and just use that as the background instead
The strange reason Mangosteen has that name is thanks to Gunstar Heroes, one of the inspirations for Cuphead's gameplay. Specifically, there's a boss who is a floating face that, for some bizarre reason, is named "Melon Bread", so they decided to give him a bizarre fruit-themed name as well.
finally someone who understands why they called it mangosteen when i first played gunstar heroes i played that mini-boss and instantly got the reference
Little tip for Hilda Bergs last phase: The UFO's come in 2 colors, red or brown. The red ones fire right when you are under them and the brown ones fire right before you go under them. Hope this helps
For Mangosteen, just stand underneath him. The cubes, except for the orange one, can’t hit you when you’re directly underneath the 8 ball. So all you have to do is move when the orange cube comes and the ball shoots a bullet at you.
8:23 actually, I think it makes perfect sense that king dice isn’t that powerful Like the devil, mister king dice prefers to use his lackeys to take care of issues instead of doing it himself, but unlike old scratchy boi, the gamest in the land isn’t literally Satan, he’s a showman, he uses his charisma as a weapon
@@lurqsoul I still found king dice a lot harder than any other mini boss you face before him. Maybe I suck at parrying, maybe it's because you get the least chances to practice him, but he was no cakewalk for me, that's for sure
I 1000% with honey bee being last. In most of the boss fights you can't be mad at anything but yourself, in the bee boss it feels like it was just made to screw with you. I also found that boss more difficult than any other boss. But that boss can just go to hell
7:30 Mangosteen is probably named that way as a homage to Melon Bread from Gunstar Heroes. That boss was a giant floating face with a very unfitting name.
Fun fact about Grimm Matchstick’s 2nd phase: The little fire dudes don’t actually jump where you last were. You can see when they face left or right during their before jump animation, but it’s totally random on whether they go left or right. The jump height is also random as well.
@@mullisaukko423 it’s all really a coincidence. With my own experience (and also watching various lets players), I typically see some of them just jumping on platforms I have never touched. I perfected grimm’s second phase by only focusing on which direction they jump and not Grimm or the platforms themselves.
They do jump where you were. They find your location just as they crouch down. They're just delayed. If anyone has trouble with this, I'd recommend staying on the lower clouds and going behind them as they start to jump.
Also, you don't get frozen if you stand still when Calamaria does her freeze moves. Which.. Yeah, is pretty bad design. There's no indication for it at all whatsoever, nobody would've guessed that. You're supposed to look away from Medusa to not get frozen but you can't really do that in Cuphead.
I'm confused, because at the beginning of phase 2, I started riddling Calamaria with bullets, but then stopped and stood completely still. By the time all the bullets finished hitting her, she activated her stun about 0.5 seconds after. I was not pressing anything related to movement or shooting. I was stunned when she did her move.
funfact: every frame is hand drawn in cuphead, even the backgrounds, and they do on ones so they have to draw 24 frames per second. thats why its style is so different from any game - they only did something on computer for the art ONCE -
I've been replaying Cuphead these past weeks because I was so hyped for the Netflix show, and now I'm addicted to watching rankings on youtube. And lemme tell you guys, I am SO GLAD I came across yours. It is actually refreshing to watch a rank that doesn't praise the same old bosses and that shakes things around a bit. I know this is super personal but I for example do not like Cagney AT ALL and people just love him so I was a bit tired of seeing him be on top constantly. Same with Cala Maria, which is my LEAST fave boss of the whole game, I just hate the mechanics of that boss (super unpopular opinion). I also absolutely love how you both have Djimmi as number one, he has been my favourite since I first played the game in 2017. So many people bash it online and say he is extremely hard but I find him quite okay in difficulty. Anyways, great vid, I also suscribed!
i am the same way! absolutely HATED cagney and i was afraid the djimmi fight was going to be the same way, but it was an enjoyable fight once you find the rhythm for it. although now grim matchstick's fight is very reminiscent of everything i struggled with during the cagney fight so i'm starting to dislike it as well lol
Trick for Beppi the Clown: As soon as the donkey or horse spawns, go right under him and shoot him with the spread shot, and he will die pretty quickly
@@Cytonox You could always follow that strat but when you see the train appear in the background wait for a right moment to come out from under Beppi to make sure you don't take damage from either obstacle. That's what I do and I hardly ever get hit.
@@atlassolid5946 You can't smoke dodge through the entire train. I'm not sure I understand. Don't think you can smoke dodge through the head of the train to get to the first platform on the train either.
That 1% of people who aren’t using smoke dash are obviously challenging themselves *not* to use it, so they are experienced and therefore have played the game before, in which they used smoke dash, meaning everyone has used smoke dash Logic
I actually beat almost all the game without the smoke dash. I preferred to have extra hearts and I also liked knowing where I was gonna land or be after dashing. I did used it for a few fights towards the end though
I use heart more often. I go for rankings, so having the extra hit point really helps, and it doesn't really mess up your time bonus that much if you're doing enough damage. I only use the others depending on the situation. Parry sugar for Phantom Express, smoke bomb for Captain Brineybeard, twin heart for run 'n guns, and... yeah, that's it actually. Also, the heart is one of the only charms you can use during the aerial battles, so it's really kinda the best charm in the game.
You get my respect, for a small-ish channel (300+ subscribers is nothing to scoff at) your mic sounds great and your editing is also on point. Good video’s keep up the good work!
@@Cytonox what mic do you use? I make gaming videos, but I just use the mic inside the dual sense controller. It works, but is far from perfect. And I really want to improve my video's
Jack here, we both use the Blue Yeti microphone on lowest gain and Cardioid Mode. I have the Blackout variant, not sure if it actually changes anything but yeah, good luck on your channel!
Very random mention but it's oddly rare to see gameplay footage at 24fps as opposed to the 60fps I've seen since this groundbreaker in gaming and animation and honestly I hope there's a function that allows it to stay that way!
Alex here, it’s animated well but imo it’s targeted too much towards children for me to really get any enjoyment out of it. Wasn’t my cup of tea but glad you enjoyed it
I totally agree with rumor honeybottoms. There’s a line between hard and just unfair. For example things can hurt you when you’re not on screen as well as the things, the platforms are very often generated in a way that’s not even possible to survive in.
That's why personally I have a separate difficulty level separate from all the others, you could have it set to any difficulty in any game, and still hit this. The Bullshit difficulty, where it's just made to be unfair, with either enough RNG to make a casino blush, or enough spam attacks I could be prepared for a hundred nuclear winters. Bonus points if it has both
Complete respect to your ranking, i love how each different weapon appeals to different players, like i used roundabout and tracker for the whole game and had no issues lol but side note: when names start with Dj-, the d is silent. So Djimmi the Great, is pronounced as Jimmy the Great 👌
Sally stage play is my personal favorite, I can’t explain why, she just gift wraps me joy with all the little details that a theatre nerd like me would get, and I do love if you stand on the chandelier during the wedding the husband will die and you’ll go to a nunnery, or convent as most people would aay
Here is a tip for the bullet in the bee thing: go to the side, when the bullet goes by you, jump up two times, then phase through the bottom platform one time
Fun fact! For some reason, in the Djimmi the Great boss fight, Djimmi has a second hitbox off screen, and you can actually hit it a lot of the time. During down time in between phases, if you just chill in the bottom left corner and drop bombs, you'll be able to hit him for free and get some really cheesy damage in, even when he's not on screen. So next time you do this fight, if you have some down time waiting for his animations, try this trick and it'll speed up the fight a little bit more and make your expert runs just a little bit easier.
The Cuphead fandom is really nice. Everyone is either like “yeah 100% bro!” Or “you know, I can’t really fault you for feeling that way. Think what you think bro” and it’s refreshing
ngl for every nice comment we get like 2 insufferable clods, it’s sort of hostile. I think the community of any game reputed for it’s difficulty inevitably becomes rife with sycophants who think complaining about something means you suck at the game. I think the overall nicest communities we’ve interacted with in a large way are the Batman Arkham community and the Metroid community. I think Cuphead, Dark Souls, and Star Wars are all in a three way tie for the worst (Although the star wars ones are probably the funniest and least frustrating of the three) -Alex
Djimmi the Great is one of my least favorite bosses in the game because of how RNG based it can feel, mainly in the first and final phase. Although aesthetically it's definitely a very interesting and eye catching boss. Nice ranking, don't agree with a lot but respect your takes!
13:33 "The main gimmick is that she'll turn into various astrological signs like Aries and..." As someone who's been on the internet to experience Homestuck, that's not Aries, that's Taurus-

I think the reason that the 8 ball is called mangosteen is probably a call back to gunstar heroes’s melon bread which is a pair of eyes a nose and a set of teeth, they do look very similar and king dice’s level is inspired off of that board game level in gunstar heroes to begin with
Sorry but I love the Cagney theme, I feel like it not only matches his chaos, but is a wonderful flex of instruments and tone in the game. And the remix also goes hard
While I respect your reasoning and opinion, I'm going to have to heavily disagree with Cala Maria's placement. Personally, she's my #19 spot solely for the stun mechanic. In a game where the key to survival is to always be moving and make split-second decisions, having a random, unavoidable attack that stuns you is inexcusable. Like you even said in the video, it can feel very unfair and ruin an otherwise good run.
@@mr.sniffly5297 that's still pretty bad game design, though. There is literally no way you could've guessed that. Normally, you should look away from her, but you can't do that in cuphead

We appreciate comments like this that realize the effort it takes, so thanks!
I don't want to sound rude but I would advise when doing an opinion based ranking state it is your opinion in the title and give a reason for every ranking. This really seemed like an odd mash-up. Neither of you gave a lot of reasons or explanations of most of the middle rankings. It seemed odd how some easy bosses were the worst and some were in the best. like the tom and jerry were top 3 for being easy and the blue blob and root pack was at the worse end for being easy. It just doesn't seem consistent and seemed mostly based on looks of the boss and atmosphere.
Great video I would've expected 50000 subs! I gave my subscription and excited to see what's next. When I clicked on the video I was afraid you wouldn't include the boss fights in the background or add the music. Including knockout animations was great too.
Alex here, glad you liked the video! The internet is full of effortless and boring text-only videos on the subject so a big selling point for Jack and I is to try our best to make our videos distinct and engaging. And thanks for noticing the knockout animation detail, we always try to end off every segment with a clip of the boss dying since it seems like a fitting way to end segments but it's not something most people consciously notice I think.
About a year ago my brother and I were having a lot of trouble beating Baroness Von Bon Bon and we spent a couple weeks trying to beat her One night I had a dream where we beat her and the next day while we were playing, we beat her
Even playing through the game again 5 years later, Phantom Express still kicked my ass. It's the neurotic platform micromanagement in the phases before that gets me. But I find the last phase to be the easiest by far since you can still fight the boss from mostly anywhere on the screen and there aren't enemies messing with your position the whole time. At that point it's just another fight where you have to pay attention to the projectiles. You don't have to worry about any extra enemies that screw you over if you kill them in the wrong spot. I love the concept of the fight, it just pisses me off whenever I have to beat it again.
Finally I find someone who has the same fellings about this boss, this boss took me 4 hours to beat HIM on full healf because 4 phase was So hard to dodge,
17:37 there is a very short high pitched sound effect that plays 1 second before she does the freezing lazer out of her eyes which make it ez and actually make this attack completely avoidable
They do have to understand that each boss has to have a certain quirk to make them hard. It also initiates the idea that they should use charms beyond double parry and smoke dash. I've used the axe and coffee more often for S-Ranking which helps alot. I do agree with certain points though, Goopy has a very boring attack pattern and it's bs excuse is it's an early game, they should toss dark soul equivalent bosses already Edit: shouldn't*
Also yes I 100 percent agree with me chimes being meant to torment war prisoners The final phase on dr khals robot is insanely easy imo at least on regular difficulty for me I first try made it to the bullet hell but choked cause nerves then it took me like 40 minutes to get past the first three phases since those first two are hell and I would choke the second but once I made it to the final phase I beat it while on one hp the whole time it’s honestly just a easy bullet he’ll imo
I sadly don’t agree with Dr Khal’s Robot and grim matchstick’s placement, but I respect your opinion. Also Wally Warbles is the bane of my existence I hate him so much.
Oh, also, there's three seeds in Cagney. One is blue and makes the big vines that grow into the little plants that follow you, one is purple and grows into little black plants that hang out on the ground, and the pink seed sends out the flying flower that's invulnerable until it opens its petals.
I liked Sally Stageplay but she seemed to easy compared to the other Isle 3 bosses. Wish they made her just a little more difficult. The reason I think this is because it only took me a few minutes to beat her the first time and she was the easiest Isle 3 boss to get A+ and S Ranks. That’s just my 2 cents though.
I really like Sally Stageplay for one main reason, and that's phase 3. The while things is just one big Final Fantasy reference. The attack names appearing at the top, her angelic form looking similar to Kefka, etc. Also, I find the secret route to be darkly hilarious. You straight up KILL the groom and she goes to a become a nun in her depression. Wow.
1:23 And It take me first time seeing that to know that is the only way you would take damage lol If you dash to that platform sooner, you would have time to jump over the bullet. Or just stay on the left side and just jump back. That attack has a clear platen, it your own fault on this one.
@@Cytonox that might be true, I remember when I did a plate of this game room or honey bottom is the only boss that I didn’t beat in one day. (Which was my philosophy). Platform rng and that f-ing triangle attack make her pretty annoying, but I still love the aesthetic and I always get a kick out of the bee plane, which I think is one of the craziest transformations in the game! Dank list so far by the way.
@@scrimmybingus9279 The sawblade attack is the coolest one so it's a bummer I didn't get it in my recording. As we said in the intro, every boss has at least something positive and neat animation is something pretty much every boss has in common
@@Cytonox True, the only boss I would consider to be actually bad is the crane game in the casino. Only because it’s a gimmick fight, the animation in it isn’t that good and it takes a really long time considering it’s just one fight in that level. It has a funny death animation tho.
@@Cytonox if you went left you would have been able to climb up, true it wasn’t possible to keep damaging her while dodging but I think if you climbed up you would’ve had more time to dodge the incoming bullets
Astrological nerd here. Hildaberg’s 3 signs are Taurus (bull), Gemini (twins), and Sagittarius (archer). It was fun watching people react to them appearing. Awesome ranking list; really on a Cuphead watch right now, so it’s fun hearing various perspectives on what bosses are more favoured.
Retroactively going back as I've now gotten the plat trophy for this game (including DLC) and really loved it. You could just feel the passion in every moving frame of this thing and it deserves all the praise that it gets. Incredibly strong boss line up as well, contending for the very best in any game I've ever played that isn't Dark Souls 3 or Sekiro. My list would prolly look a little something like this (based on expert mode and without Ms. Chalice): 27) Rumor Honeybottoms (for all the same reasons you guys cited) 26) Goopy Le Grande (simple and boring but not all that terrible) 25) The Root Pack (pretty much same as Goopy imo these can swap places but I like the variety here more) 24) Angel and Devil (also boring but amazingly atmospheric) 23) King Dice (I'm better at using the dice now than I was before, but I still hate most of the mini bosses. My favorite is prolly Hopus Pocus and I only wished he was a little less tanky) 22) Wally Warbles (the ONLY boss I couldn't beat on expert without the Heart Ring. It teeters on the line of absolute bullshit sometimes but it's more engaging to me than everything below it) 21) The King's Gauntlet (I don't necessarily love these but it's a decent time. The Rook is prolly my favorite) 20) Baroness Von Bon Bon (relies way too heavily on RNG in the first phase for me) 19) Glumstone the Giant (I kinda hate this one tbh but I acknowledge that I'm not very good at it. I just swear that there's unavoidable damage sometimes) 18) Ribby and Croaks (insane jump in difficulty on expert, although like Bon Bon, a little too much RNG reliance in the last phase brings it down) 17) The Devil (I'm a little better at this fight now but this used to be bottom bunk. I still think there's some bullshit but the atmosphere helps a lot) 16) Beppi the Clown (the second to last phase kinda sucks but all around it's pretty well designed and has a cool aesthetic) 15) Hilda Berg (I enjoy every boss from here on out. I love when Cuphead bosses get more and more insane as the fight goes on) 14) Cagney Carnation (mostly cause I love the theme lol, but also a very well designed fight. I just don't really go back to this one as much as the others) 13) Sally Stageplay (I feel bad for this one because it does everything right, but I also don't really replay this one as much) 12) Cala Maria (the Medusa phase is not as bad as everyone says it is, although I won't get mad at anyone for not enjoying the final phase. I like it overall) 11) Chef Saltbaker (hardest boss in the game easily. I hate the fires that track you in the first two phases but otherwise great atmosphere, music and challenge) 10) Dr. Kahl's Robot (insanely difficult as well, I wished the last phase wasn't so tanky but otherwise really well done) 9) Captain Brineybeard (I find this one to be a ton of fun, it's almost ineffable why I like it so much but I just do) 8) Grim Matchstick (the perfect amount of health and the platforming is well done. This fight is actually easier on expert funnily enough since the clouds go the opposite direction) 7) Djimmi the Great (the variety is great and it keeps you on your toes, although if Esther Winchester didn't exist this fight would be a lot higher) 6) The Phantom Express (staggering amount of variety here as well. I just love the wackiness of everything here, only thing I don't love is the cart you stand on) 5) Moonshine Mob (amazing idea for a boss, and almost perfectly executed. The anteater phase is a little slow but otherwise it's practically flawless) 4) Werner Werman (my favorite base game boss. Perfect health, good challenge, funny concept, great music, it's got it all) 3) Esther Winchester (the best plane boss by a mile. The insanity is on full display here, it's basically schizophrenia personified and I love every bit of it) 2) Mortimer Freeze (that second phase alone really stands out as being so well designed. Not too tanky, and it really does feel great to do this one hitless more so than most of the other bosses here) 1) The Howling Aces (yeah the DLC absolutely kicks ass lol. This one is also a bit of an ineffable one but I just find this to be the most fun boss with the most fun idea and my favorite boss theme as well. The screen tilting isn't all that disorienting for me either)
Wait so Wally placed 10th and 18th in personal rankings and ends up 18th total, but when Dice places 10th and 19th, a worse ranking on average, he gets placed higher?
The ranking averaging process is complicated, no one can get placed higher or lower than any of us placed him. Sometimes when there’s a boss one of us hates (in this case me) it drags it down a lot due to conflicting with other bosses rankings following that rule etc -Alex
Strange, I kind of prefer the axe attack whetstone charm. Being able to parry off anything that can take damage is situationally very useful, and holds over to when you are in the planes
In hilda bergs fight, there is actually a way to tell when the space ships will shoot. Red ships shoot when you are underneath them and brown ships shoot when you are about to go underneath them. To dodge, fly close to the brown ships but don't fly under them. If you stay in the back of the screen they will shoot and you can't dodge them. For red, just fly past them before they shoot you

For Mangosteen, just stand underneath him. The cubes, except for the orange one, can’t hit you when you’re directly underneath the 8 ball. So all you have to do is move when the orange cube comes and the ball shoots a bullet at you.

Fun fact about Grimm Matchstick’s 2nd phase:
The little fire dudes don’t actually jump where you last were. You can see when they face left or right during their before jump animation, but it’s totally random on whether they go left or right. The jump height is also random as well.
thanks for the tip, gonna need this for Expert - Jack
Oh really? Sure does feel like they aim at the cloud you were last standing on
@@mullisaukko423 yeah same no way its actually random

WHAT. that is such a game changer

Right on, great minds think alike! I can see why you might dislike Cala Maria, it is an rng-fest for sure. Thanks for subscribing!

appreciate the love bro, welcome to the family - Jack
Hilda is one of my favorites next to king dice, and grim matchstick.
i am the same way! absolutely HATED cagney and i was afraid the djimmi fight was going to be the same way, but it was an enjoyable fight once you find the rhythm for it. although now grim matchstick's fight is very reminiscent of everything i struggled with during the cagney fight so i'm starting to dislike it as well lol
I agree
I hate Cala Maria, Hilda Berg is better
I like Djimmi and don't understand the Grim Matchstick hate
Dr Kahl gets a pass for me too
Trick for Beppi the Clown:
As soon as the donkey or horse spawns, go right under him and shoot him with the spread shot, and he will die pretty quickly
the train makes this a bit of a nuisance cus you can’t jump over it so you’re sorta screwed if you stick to that strat
Then you just try to survive the first attack I guess
@@Cytonox You could always follow that strat but when you see the train appear in the background wait for a right moment to come out from under Beppi to make sure you don't take damage from either obstacle. That's what I do and I hardly ever get hit.
@@Cytonox and that's why smoke bomb exists
@@atlassolid5946 You can't smoke dodge through the entire train. I'm not sure I understand. Don't think you can smoke dodge through the head of the train to get to the first platform on the train either.
That 1% of people who aren’t using smoke dash are obviously challenging themselves *not* to use it, so they are experienced and therefore have played the game before, in which they used smoke dash, meaning everyone has used smoke dash
Logic
I havent used it 🤷♀️
I actually beat almost all the game without the smoke dash.
Or they’re like me, and wasted all their coins on other things
I never used smoke dash just because I never tried any of the charms besides extra health

Bonus points if it has both
I like how Alex's commentary is pretty nice and positive and then Jack just shits on everybody lmao
So true lol
Complete respect to your ranking, i love how each different weapon appeals to different players, like i used roundabout and tracker for the whole game and had no issues lol but side note: when names start with Dj-, the d is silent. So Djimmi the Great, is pronounced as Jimmy the Great 👌
Alex here, thanks for the factoid there. I always wondered that but kept forgetting to google it. Learn something new every day!
I think Cuphead, Dark Souls, and Star Wars are all in a three way tie for the worst (Although the star wars ones are probably the funniest and least frustrating of the three)

I think the reason that the 8 ball is called mangosteen is probably a call back to gunstar heroes’s melon bread which is a pair of eyes a nose and a set of teeth, they do look very similar and king dice’s level is inspired off of that board game level in gunstar heroes to begin with

The thing about Dr khal's robot's 3rd phase is I HATE the red crystal because it blends in too much with the background
Another comment said you don’t freeze if you stay still while she does it. I haven’t tried it but you could try that
If you time your super bomb right it can help you avoid one of the stuns while you're still invincible

Crazy how ppl can have such diff opinions but still each opinion makes perfect sense with this game

One of the funniest things is he actually got the dates correct, 1920's-1934 is when the great depression fully hit the states!

I'm assuming you're talking about the devil right? Bc phase 4 in that boss s u c k s
17:37 there is a very short high pitched sound effect that plays 1 second before she does the freezing lazer out of her eyes which make it ez and actually make this attack completely avoidable
I completely agree with the theme rankings, you're clearly a man of culture!
The weird thing about djimmi for me is the fact I struggled on him for like a week and then when I finally beat him I got S rank for the first time!
You can entirely evade the rumour honeybottom rocket move by hugging the sides

The final phase on dr khals robot is insanely easy imo at least on regular difficulty for me I first try made it to the bullet hell but choked cause nerves then it took me like 40 minutes to get past the first three phases since those first two are hell and I would choke the second but once I made it to the final phase I beat it while on one hp the whole time it’s honestly just a easy bullet he’ll imo
I sadly don’t agree with Dr Khal’s Robot and grim matchstick’s placement, but I respect your opinion.

5:57 glad I’m not the only one who thinks the same way about these bosses.
I really like Sally Stageplay for one main reason, and that's phase 3. The while things is just one big Final Fantasy reference.
Chalice):
27) Rumor Honeybottoms (for all the same reasons you guys cited)
26) Goopy Le Grande (simple and boring but not all that terrible)
25) The Root Pack (pretty much same as Goopy imo these can swap places but I like the variety here more)
24) Angel and Devil (also boring but amazingly atmospheric)
23) King Dice (I'm better at using the dice now than I was before, but I still hate most of the mini bosses. My favorite is prolly Hopus Pocus and I only wished he was a little less tanky)
22) Wally Warbles (the ONLY boss I couldn't beat on expert without the Heart Ring. It teeters on the line of absolute bullshit sometimes but it's more engaging to me than everything below it)
21) The King's Gauntlet (I don't necessarily love these but it's a decent time. The Rook is prolly my favorite)
20) Baroness Von Bon Bon (relies way too heavily on RNG in the first phase for me)
19) Glumstone the Giant (I kinda hate this one tbh but I acknowledge that I'm not very good at it. I just swear that there's unavoidable damage sometimes)
18) Ribby and Croaks (insane jump in difficulty on expert, although like Bon Bon, a little too much RNG reliance in the last phase brings it down)
17) The Devil (I'm a little better at this fight now but this used to be bottom bunk. I still think there's some bullshit but the atmosphere helps a lot)
16) Beppi the Clown (the second to last phase kinda sucks but all around it's pretty well designed and has a cool aesthetic)
15) Hilda Berg (I enjoy every boss from here on out. I love when Cuphead bosses get more and more insane as the fight goes on)
14) Cagney Carnation (mostly cause I love the theme lol, but also a very well designed fight. I just don't really go back to this one as much as the others)
13) Sally Stageplay (I feel bad for this one because it does everything right, but I also don't really replay this one as much)
12) Cala Maria (the Medusa phase is not as bad as everyone says it is, although I won't get mad at anyone for not enjoying the final phase. I like it overall)
11) Chef Saltbaker (hardest boss in the game easily. I hate the fires that track you in the first two phases but otherwise great atmosphere, music and challenge)
10) Dr. Kahl's Robot (insanely difficult as well, I wished the last phase wasn't so tanky but otherwise really well done)
9) Captain Brineybeard (I find this one to be a ton of fun, it's almost ineffable why I like it so much but I just do)
8) Grim Matchstick (the perfect amount of health and the platforming is well done. This fight is actually easier on expert funnily enough since the clouds go the opposite direction)
7) Djimmi the Great (the variety is great and it keeps you on your toes, although if Esther Winchester didn't exist this fight would be a lot higher)
6) The Phantom Express (staggering amount of variety here as well. I just love the wackiness of everything here, only thing I don't love is the cart you stand on)
5) Moonshine Mob (amazing idea for a boss, and almost perfectly executed. The anteater phase is a little slow but otherwise it's practically flawless)
4) Werner Werman (my favorite base game boss. Perfect health, good challenge, funny concept, great music, it's got it all)
3) Esther Winchester (the best plane boss by a mile. The insanity is on full display here, it's basically schizophrenia personified and I love every bit of it)
2) Mortimer Freeze (that second phase alone really stands out as being so well designed. Not too tanky, and it really does feel great to do this one hitless more so than most of the other bosses here)
1) The Howling Aces (yeah the DLC absolutely kicks ass lol.
Sometimes when there’s a boss one of us hates (in this case me) it drags it down a lot due to conflicting with other bosses rankings following that rule etc

Strange, I kind of prefer the axe attack whetstone charm. Being able to parry off anything that can take damage is situationally very useful, and holds over to when you are in the planes
10:33... I'm sorry but I won't listen to you anymore. Sorry
I'm glad the creator has a sense of humor
In hilda bergs fight, there is actually a way to tell when the space ships will shoot. Red ships shoot when you are underneath them and brown ships shoot when you are about to go underneath them. To dodge, fly close to the brown ships but don't fly under them. If you stay in the back of the screen they will shoot and you can't dodge them. For red, just fly past them before they shoot you
Ngl, It feels like you guys hate every boss lmao
I promise we love the game it’s just funnier and more fun to script if we complain an exaggerated amount

Wally Warbles was pretty easy imo on normal
Expert probably is the opposite
The actual joy of feeling that someone knows the pain of the Tipsy Troop.
I’m sorry, but you think mr chimes AND mangosteen are hard? Mr chimes is easy to dodge and mangosteen is literally the easiest boss in the entire game.
Mr. Chimes and Mangosteen are pieces of shit and 100% deserve to be boiling in hell like they are

@@Cytonox fair enough I don’t like mangosteen either but it’s because he is way yo easy and doesn’t feel like a cuphead boss aside from his design.

@@RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH oh don’t get me wrong I had a hell of a good time playing all of them, he just personally annoys me
I thought he was a giant cuckoo 🤔
@@RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I feel you. I always have to explain why I like grim matchstick 😂
I find Brineybeard to be my favorite. I learned that you can duck AND dash so the laser doesn't screw you over!
