Questo video è uno dei pochissimi documenti esistenti di Renata Scotto interprete del personaggio di Cio-Cio-San.
Ia parte di B.F. Pinkerton era interpretata dal giovane M. Malagnini.
Puccini was a brilliant composer and Madama Butterfly is his masterpiece. And Renata Scotto was one of the greatest performers of the role.

The death of Cio-Cio San always make me cry.....
I just cannot believe this was filmed in 1987!I still own several LP's when Scotto sang in her prime....before she lost control of her pianissimo and vibrato. However, this aria after all is ALL about mostly FORTE except for very few portions. I must admit however, even though Butterfly is my least favorite Puccini opera, I wept when I saw and heard this. Mme Scotto was also stage director of this production.

pourquoi avoir mis un enregistrement "vocal" antérieur a cette vidéo de 1987 ....??? la Scotto devait avoir de beaux restes surtout si elle même se jugeait encore assez bonne pour chanter ce rôle c'est offenser sa mémoire que d'avoir fait ce "montage" et surtout l'émotion aurait été immense de l'entendre même avec une voix moins belle ..... tant pis les images suffisent à montrer toutes la force de cette grande artiste
continua ad essere l'unica Butterfly della seconda metà del '900 pur con le dovute cautele Lei non canta , vive, fa l'amore come una ragazzina che vuol godere del suo uomo, vuole il suo uomo lo ama come si ama un uomo che si allontana per lavoro ed è costretta a diventare donna nel corso della vicenda. Puccini non la voleva forse così? Il fraseggio e il legato non hanno paragoni, mi riferisco all'edizione Barbirolli. Grazie Renata non è semplice scordarsi delle tue interpretazioni

What? This is FAKE. People fall for this? This is a studio recording spliced into a second rate theatre production of MB with Scotto -- who sounded NOTHING like this in 1987.
No IT IS NOT A FAKE I was there, she was in splendid form. I was sitting on the gradinate very far from the stage yet you could hear every pianissimo, when she pulled out the full voice here it was huge, almost Wagnerian in dimension, this video doesn't nearly give the physical impact of her voice that evening.
Scotto at this stage of her career often had bad nights, there are plenty of documents out there that testify to this. I remember a recital at La Fenice where she sang an awful programme of numbers from the American Musical repertoire, it was terrible, she seemed to have no control over her voice. This Butterfly began badly, with a huge wailing wobble at the entrance: "F**k, it's one of those bad nights" - I thought. But after about 10 minutes the voice became perfectly steady, there was nothing she couldn't do, she had the audience spell-bound. It remains to this day one of the very great experiences of my opera-going experience.
questo video è falso..... in scena non poteva avere questa voce così "perfetta" basta vedere che le labbra dicono una cosa e il suono un'altra. IMPOSSIBILE CHE nel 1987 avesse questa voce
