I come from a Baptist background. I stumbled on this channel after watching some of Margaret Barkers stuff on the temple, and it led me to Mike and Dave. They are wonderfully learned men, whose faith and diligence in the lord encourages me to walk straighter in my path. The subjects they tackle, bring me ever closer to my creator. It is absolutely wonderful to see the similarities between the Mormon Temple and the Temple at the heart of the book I love. So, thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your knowledge, wisdom, and your church. Learning along with this crew has been a great addition to my Hebrew studies. I started out Baptist, then went to messianic Judaism then LDS. Because I felt like I was really missing something with baptist theology, got a lot closer to G-d threw practicing the Laws of mosses, but everything fell in place when I started going to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
I’m 75 years old and have been attending the temple for 56 years and have been an ordinance worker for four years. I’ve tried to understand the temple and its ordinances and symbols all these years. In the last year I’ve prayed that I could gain a deeper understanding and therefore a greater love of the temple. I’ve watched others who seem to get so much from the temple experience than did I. This video has been an answer to my prayers! Thank you so much for this!!!!

In the early 70’s my husband served a mission in Rome…. At that time the Vatican library was accessible to anyone. There was a very ancient book (all the missionaries knew about) detailing the endowment ceremony. It was much older than the restoration of the LDS church. The library is no longer accessible to the general public unfortunately.
Raised LDS … My Dad was Methodist and a Mason .. When I think of my Dad I see that Ring on his finger… He converted to the Church when he was 76 years old .. He was the best Man I’ve ever known.. loving this video!♥️

My father was a Freemason and later became a master in the lodge. Both my mother and sister were very active in the lodge. I absolutely loved this whole subject and all the time that you took to share the research and slides! It was so informative. Both my husband and I watched the whole thing today. Squares and circles. My husband and I built our home together. It was an intensive spiritual challenge as well as physical. I felt temple symbolism come alive during those long hours. The Lord broke us down to points where we had nothing else but to rely on Him. He was building more than a house. Interesting combination of squaring and framing timber for support of open spaces and ascending/descending spaces, but also circular plumbing to control the vital but volatile water, gas, and heating (electrical and air circulation as well). Building bodies would take similar practical mindsets and communicative teamwork. Thank goodness my body is Christ’s and has greater obedience to that priesthood of forming bodies in the womb. Myself and the children have been spared me trying to follow the manual. 😅 1:25:20

Someone with an experience is never at the mercy of someone with an opinion. When someone gives me their OPINION of the Temple, it doesn't override my EXPERIENCE at the Temple.
I watched all 5 hours! Lots of good nuggets. I liked the talk about the tree, holding onto the Lord, circles, names and all the connections with the endowment. It was enriching and tasty like honey! Thank you so much.
I had no idea that you could talk about this level of detail outside the temple. It is fascinating and I wish I would have known more when I went through when I was younger.

Your discussion led to some timely revelation that has opened my understanding to a deeper love for Jesus Christ and His willingness to make it possible for each individual child of God to return to Heavenly Father through making and keeping covenants. I have had an undeniable witness that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God and that the gospel of Jesus Christ (as taught by This Church) is The Way, The Truth, The Light, The Life and The Word and nowhere is that taught and understood better than in one of His Holy temples. This discussion helped to enlarge my vision of sacred things and to confirm the endowment as revealed truth.

It is interesting to note that certain sacred rites were communicated through a creation drama that has stood the test of time, language, and cultural understanding. Pretty remarkable. Also, some tend to focus on similarities with Masonic ritual, but ignore the fact that shades of these ceremonies were found in various cultures that even pre date masonry, ie; Egyptian, Hopi, book of Moses, etc. the question that should be asked is why does the Masonic ritual have echoes of multiple other ancient rites tied to creation dramas?

I saw this episode pop up when it first came out but I wanted to listen to it "in one go" so it's taken me a month to get to it -- I'm cleaning house today! I haven't even finished it and I'm in love. But in case it hasn't been commented by anyone else yet, I desperately desperately want Mike and/or a combination of your phenomenal contributors to discuss in a separate episode The changes to the sealing ordinances and the teachings on being sealed as a family. (Mentioned around the 45 min mark) A couple friends and I have been discussing this for at least a year now, but everything we come up with which we firmly believe to be true is something we'd be shot for saying in Sunday School because nobody else in our (very....ill) ward is capable or interested in seeing it that way, even tho it provides clarity and peace in so many other places in our lives. I would ADORE hearing opinions and studies from others in other parts of the country and the world. My favorite part of being a BYU-Hawaii graduate is that living inside "The nucleus of the worldwide Church" made it SO MUCH EASIER to discern doctrine from policy/procedure and both of those from culture. People from countries I had never even heard of before taught me where I was wrong or where I could improve and reframe in order to see more, because my lens was too narrow or my understanding was too specific. And it was the best feeling I've ever felt. Ever. My understanding was too cultural, too regional, and "too much church but not enough gospel." I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to see that episode. It neeeeeeds to be a thing. Pleeeeeease!!!
This was crazy good and super enlightening! I'm so overwhelmed with the goodness of our God and His plan for us. I'm so grateful that He reaches through the veil to feel after us and redeem us by bringing us back into His presence. Thank you sooo much for this incredible episode. The truths shared are amazing. The temple covenants we make help us against the world. The church truly has been restored. As I have always felt, Joseph is a prophet and seer for our dispensation.

When I worked as an Ordinance Worker in the temple, a friend of mine I worked with asked the temple President if the Calling and Election (eternal life) ordinance was still performed. The temple President said it was performed for members every week!
@@CMZIEBARTH yes it is known by many names but with the scriptures and on the churches website when you search under calling and election, many of the scriptures point from calling and election to the term eternal life. So the second anointing, fullness of the priesthood and calling and election all fit under the umbrella term Eternal Life. So when Jesus Christ says in Moses 1:39, "For behold, this is my work and my glory-to bring to pass the immortality (the Atonement and Resurrection) and eternal life (Calling and election made sure, second anointing, fullness of the priesthood) of man."
@@arclightgames there’s actually a great podcast on UA-cam on the 2nd anointing Mormon stories channel. It’s actually a quite fascinating ordinance that disappeared for many decades in the church until Spencer W Kimball brought it back and now it’s something very top secret. In the early days of the church, they used to publish everybody’s names who received this ordinance, I wonder why it’s so secretive now.? And what an interesting ordinance because it’s favoring some members over others. And people think they are going to see the face of the Lord, which doesn’t actually happen.
Really interesting at 3:26:56 Hayden mentions 3 Nephi 17; even more interesting in 3 Nephi 19 when the diciples are encircled by angels and fire, with Jesus in the midst . Later in verse 24 it reads “ …they did still continue, without ceasing, to pray unto him; and they did not multiply many words, for it was given unto them what they should pray, and they were filled with desire.” It was given to them what to pray in the circle 👀👀👀
Nibley taught that! And I looked up the Hebrew and yea, it can in fact mean “marks” rather than Cole’s, and then arguments for why it might be translated/understood as “colors” inspite of the alternate definition. I had no idea any Hebrew-speaker/Jewish anything might also understand it to be “marks” and not “colors” based on the common translation. That’s so cool!
I listened to this as I traveled from Iowa/Nebraska to Missouri. It’s amazing and I loved every minute! On my last day in Missouri I went to the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum. And because I had listened to this video, my attention was especially drawn to the exhibit showing Truman's Freemasonry items. He eventually became a Grand Master and always believed his involvement had a profound impact on his personal and political life.

Please get Bro. Schmidt on! I had him as a professor at BYUI for a history class when he was fairly new there. Incredibly interesting man. He told us a story once (forgive me if I get some things wrong this was about 12 years ago at this point) of how he once taught at a catholic school and was asked how he could remain a mormon with all his wealth of knowledge of Latin and the early church fathers. He said he tried to avoid answering questions like that out of respect since he was at a catholic school. He eventually gave in and responded with give me any doctrine of mine that you think is false and I will show you how the church father's taught what I believe. (something to that effect) he did that brilliantly and was soon out of a job at that school.
There’s a lay(?) British Catholic priest and theologian who gives a presentation about cathedrals and temples and their correlations and liturgies on the Academy for Temple Studies channel. It’s like ten years old but still really interesting!
I (MIke) am a friend of Brent and he shared that story with me. It is such an amazing story. I want to get him on TSOJ to share it. Brent is a gentleman and a scholar. I also think he has a brilliant sense of humor. Thanks for reminding me of that story.

I am grateful for all the information you have presented here. I find it interesting. I would like to add another perspective on the temple. Consider the temple like you would a highway that leads to Christ. If I'm driving down that highway, I really don't care how the highway came to be. I only care that it exists and I can use it to get to where I want to be. Years ago I started serving as an ordinance worker. I thought it would be great because I'd learn all kinds of cool stuff about the temple. After about three years of spending many hours each week in the temple, I realized I didn't really know much more about the seemingly mysterious stuff of the temple than I did when I started. But, I realized that my time in the temple was indeed changing me. I was literally a different, better person! It has been 15 years since I started attending the temple frequently and regularly and I have a very certain conviction that the temple is a holy place that God created for us. If you want to know the temple is of God, you can try to find the answer in lots of books, or you can just spend time in the temple and let God tell you about it (or do both).
In our youth we may not care how the highway came to be. As we get older we may take time to appreciate it more and the effort gone into bringing it to us and how it's blessed our lives

In Freemasonry York Rite we have “Knights Templar”. In Freemasonry we have a Seperate side/appendant body that is the rosicrucian. Also, in the Scottish rite degrees rosicrucian is discussed.
Jeff Chadwick wrote a short book titled, the “The Stone Manger”. It really supports the position that Joseph and Jesus were stone masons rather than what we would call “carpenters”. I’m sharing because of the comments made around the 4:36.30 ish mark. BTW, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all episodes with Mike and Dave, on all the UA-cam channels they’ve recently been on…IT TASTES GOOD!! Sweet like honey!!😊

Studying Heraldry also helped me understand the names, tokens, etc. Peasants didn't have the knowledge that those in the palace did. They would come to a kingdom and need to identify themselves to the King, etc. flags and tokens helped them understand who was outside. Fascinating

I am probably going to spend a few weeks watching this video over and over here and there. I am a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint, my first time in the temple my friend who came to be my escort kept asking me, "Are you OK?" because she was worried about me. I have to laugh at her checking in on my after each part of the endowment. I had no idea people freaked out there first time in an Endowment Session. I was happily sitting there thinking, "This is just like the Old Testament." Years later, I found out how there was a possible masonic link, but the Spirit testified to me this ordinance predated what the Masons do in their lodges. I found out taking my questions to God is the best way to get answers. However, now thanks to you, I have the actual documentation to show this is the case should anyone ask me about it. Some people don't appreciate, "The Spirit told me the ordinance predates the masons" because to them it will seem like, and I have been accused in the past of "coping out" of giving actual documentation to prove it. Some people I know believe the Masons are part of some big secret cabal intent on taking over the world, and therefore are not good. NOW I can say, "Hey, a brother in the Church of Jesus Christ made a slide about this question" I can send it to you, or I can say, "Hey, do you have about five hours to spare to watch this very informative video?" I know this video is going to help a lot of people in the church and even those out of it who are struggling to understand this ordinance. I must confess there were things Mike and Dave mentioned that had me wishing they would say more and the video was longer. God bless you in your deployment brothers. My father was a Freemason and later became a master in the lodge. Both my mother and sister were very active in the lodge. I absolutely loved this whole subject and all the time that you took to share the research and slides! It was so informative. Both my husband and I watched the whole thing today. Squares and circles. My husband and I built our home together. It was an intensive spiritual challenge as well as physical. I felt temple symbolism come alive during those long hours. The Lord broke us down to points where we had nothing else but to rely on Him. He was building more than a house. Interesting combination of squaring and framing timber for support of open spaces and ascending/descending spaces, but also circular plumbing to control the vital but volatile water, gas, and heating (electrical and air circulation as well). Building bodies would take similar practical mindsets and communicative teamwork. Thank goodness my body is Christ’s and has greater obedience to that priesthood of forming bodies in the womb. Myself and the children have been spared me trying to follow the manual. 😅 1:25:20

Your discussion led to some timely revelation that has opened my understanding to a deeper love for Jesus Christ and His willingness to make it possible for each individual child of God to return to Heavenly Father through making and keeping covenants. The temple endowment shows how we depend totally on "the merits of Jesus" to bring each of us to God as we bind ourselves to Christ. Thank you to everyone who gives of their time to witness to those who participate on this channel. We are so blessed by your knowledge, research, and willingness to share. I have been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints my whole life and although I have had questions that have taken years to be answered, I have never faltered because I have held fast to the covenants that bind me to Christ. I have had an undeniable witness that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God and that the gospel of Jesus Christ (as taught by This Church) is The Way, The Truth, The Light, The Life and The Word and nowhere is that taught and understood better than in one of His Holy temples. This discussion helped to enlarge my vision of sacred things and to confirm the endowment as revealed truth.

It is interesting to note that certain sacred rites were communicated through a creation drama that has stood the test of time, language, and cultural understanding. Pretty remarkable. Also, some tend to focus on similarities with Masonic ritual, but ignore the fact that shades of these ceremonies were found in various cultures that even pre date masonry, ie; Egyptian, Hopi, book of Moses, etc. the question that should be asked is why does the Masonic ritual have echoes of multiple other ancient rites tied to creation dramas?
I watched all 4 hours and 54 minutes in one sitting at speed. Loved this. I learned so much about the temple, especially how ancient the rituals are.

A couple friends and I have been discussing this for at least a year now, but everything we come up with which we firmly believe to be true is something we'd be shot for saying in Sunday School because nobody else in our (very....ill) ward is capable or interested in seeing it that way, even tho it provides clarity and peace in so many other places in our lives.
I would ADORE hearing opinions and studies from others in other parts of the country and the world. My favorite part of being a BYU-Hawaii graduate is that living inside "The nucleus of the worldwide Church" made it SO MUCH EASIER to discern doctrine from policy/procedure and both of those from culture. People from countries I had never even heard of before taught me where I was wrong or where I could improve and reframe in order to see more, because my lens was too narrow or my understanding was too specific. And it was the best feeling I've ever felt. Ever. My understanding was too cultural, too regional, and "too much church but not enough gospel." I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to see that episode. It neeeeeeds to be a thing. Pleeeeeease!!!
This was crazy good and super enlightening! I'm so overwhelmed with the goodness of our God and His plan for us. I'm so grateful that He reaches through the veil to feel after us and redeem us by bringing us back into His presence. Thank you sooo much for this incredible episode. The truths shared are amazing. The temple covenants we make help us against the world. The church truly has been restored. As I have always felt, Joseph is a prophet and seer for our dispensation.

When I worked as an Ordinance Worker in the temple, a friend of mine I worked with asked the temple President if the Calling and Election (eternal life) ordinance was still performed. The temple President said it was performed for members every week!

@@CMZIEBARTH yes it is known by many names but with the scriptures and on the churches website when you search under calling and election, many of the scriptures point from calling and election to the term eternal life. So the second anointing, fullness of the priesthood and calling and election all fit under the umbrella term Eternal Life. So when Jesus Christ says in Moses 1:39, "For behold, this is my work and my glory-to bring to pass the immortality (the Atonement and Resurrection) and eternal life (Calling and election made sure, second anointing, fullness of the priesthood) of man."

@@arclightgames there’s actually a great podcast on UA-cam on the 2nd anointing Mormon stories channel. It’s actually a quite fascinating ordinance that disappeared for many decades in the church until Spencer W Kimball brought it back and now it’s something very top secret. In the early days of the church, they used to publish everybody’s names who received this ordinance, I wonder why it’s so secretive now.? And what an interesting ordinance because it’s favoring some members over others. And people think they are going to see the face of the Lord, which doesn’t actually happen.
Really interesting at 3:26:56 Hayden mentions 3 Nephi 17; even more interesting in 3 Nephi 19 when the diciples are encircled by angels and fire, with Jesus in the midst . Later in verse 24 it reads “ …they did still continue, without ceasing, to pray unto him; and they did not multiply many words, for it was given unto them what they should pray, and they were filled with desire.” It was given to them what to pray in the circle 👀👀👀

My father studied law and had a class in Jewish Law and was taught that Joseph’s coat of many colors was not that but a coat of many marks. 😊

Nibley taught that! And I looked up the Hebrew and yea, it can in fact mean “marks” rather than Cole’s, and then arguments for why it might be translated/understood as “colors” inspite of the alternate definition.
I had no idea any Hebrew-speaker/Jewish anything might also understand it to be “marks” and not “colors” based on the common translation. That’s so cool!
I listened to this as I traveled from Iowa/Nebraska to Missouri. It’s amazing and I loved every minute! On my last day in Missouri I went to the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum. And because I had listened to this video, my attention was especially drawn to the exhibit showing Truman's Freemasonry items. He eventually became a Grand Master and always believed his involvement had a profound impact on his personal and political life.

Please get Bro. Schmidt on! I had him as a professor at BYUI for a history class when he was fairly new there. Incredibly interesting man. He told us a story once (forgive me if I get some things wrong this was about 12 years ago at this point) of how he once taught at a catholic school and was asked how he could remain a mormon with all his wealth of knowledge of Latin and the early church fathers. He said he tried to avoid answering questions like that out of respect since he was at a catholic school. He eventually gave in and responded with give me any doctrine of mine that you think is false and I will show you how the church father's taught what I believe. (something to that effect) he did that brilliantly and was soon out of a job at that school.
There was a BYU Studies article I recently read that compared the Catholic traditions and rituals with the LDS Temple. Very illuminating.
There’s a lay(?) British Catholic priest and theologian who gives a presentation about cathedrals and temples and their correlations and liturgies on the Academy for Temple Studies channel. It’s like ten years old but still really interesting!
I (MIke) am a friend of Brent and he shared that story with me. It is such an amazing story. I want to get him on TSOJ to share it. Brent is a gentleman and a scholar. I also think he has a brilliant sense of humor. Thanks for reminding me of that story.

I am grateful for all the information you have presented here. I find it interesting. I would like to add another perspective on the temple. Consider the temple like you would a highway that leads to Christ. If I'm driving down that highway, I really don't care how the highway came to be. I only care that it exists and I can use it to get to where I want to be. Years ago I started serving as an ordinance worker. I thought it would be great because I'd learn all kinds of cool stuff about the temple. After about three years of spending many hours each week in the temple, I realized I didn't really know much more about the seemingly mysterious stuff of the temple than I did when I started. But, I realized that my time in the temple was indeed changing me. I was literally a different, better person! It has been 15 years since I started attending the temple frequently and regularly and I have a very certain conviction that the temple is a holy place that God created for us. If you want to know the temple is of God, you can try to find the answer in lots of books, or you can just spend time in the temple and let God tell you about it (or do both).
In our youth we may not care how the highway came to be. As we get older we may take time to appreciate it more and the effort gone into bringing it to us and how it's blessed our lives

In Freemasonry York Rite we have “Knights Templar”. In Freemasonry we have a Seperate side/appendant body that is the rosicrucian. Also, in the Scottish rite degrees rosicrucian is discussed.

Jeff Chadwick wrote a short book titled, the “The Stone Manger”. It really supports the position that Joseph and Jesus were stone masons rather than what we would call “carpenters”. I’m sharing because of the comments made around the 4:36.30 ish mark.

Peasants didn't have the knowledge that those in the palace did. They would come to a kingdom and need to identify themselves to the King, etc. flags and tokens helped them understand who was outside. Fascinating

Thank you so much for making this video!!!! I have been watching it over and over for a few days now each time gleaming something different. I am probably going to spend a few weeks watching this video over and over here and there. I am a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint, my first time in the temple my friend who came to be my escort kept asking me, "Are you OK?" because she was worried about me. I have to laugh at her checking in on my after each part of the endowment. I had no idea people freaked out there first time in an Endowment Session. I was happily sitting there thinking, "This is just like the Old Testament."
Years later, I found out how there was a possible masonic link, but the Spirit testified to me this ordinance predated what the Masons do in their lodges. I found out taking my questions to God is the best way to get answers. However, now thanks to you, I have the actual documentation to show this is the case should anyone ask me about it. Some people don't appreciate, "The Spirit told me the ordinance predates the masons" because to them it will seem like, and I have been accused in the past of "coping out" of giving actual documentation to prove it. Some people I know believe the Masons are part of some big secret cabal intent on taking over the world, and therefore are not good.
NOW I can say, "Hey, a brother in the Church of Jesus Christ made a slide about this question" I can send it to you, or I can say, "Hey, do you have about five hours to spare to watch this very informative video?" I know this video is going to help a lot of people in the church and even those out of it who are struggling to understand this ordinance. I must confess there were things Mike and Dave mentioned that had me wishing they would say more and the video was longer.
